Chew Mei Fun said today she would not resign as the Wanita MCA chief as it would not have any impact on the fresh elections the party is to hold to resolve its leadership crisis.
She also said she did not believe that the postponement of the fresh elections was due to her reluctance or that of MCA Youth chief Dr Wee Ka Siong to resign from their posts."My resignation will not expedite the process of fresh elections in the MCA.
"I will not resign (as Wanita MCA chief) because I was not elected to the CC (central committee) but became a CC member by virtue of my being the Wanita MCA chief," she told reporters here.
Chew said she adhered to the provisions of the MCA constitution for the good of the party.
Eight more resignations needed
In this connection, she advised MCA members to use their right with wisdom and not act rashly.
So far, 13 CC members, among them MCA vice-president and Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Wee Jeck Seng and Deputy Higher Education Minister Dr Hou Kok Chung, have handed in undated resignation letters to party secretary-general Wong Foon Meng to pave the way for the fresh elections.
Wong would date the letters once he receives eight more letters of resignation to fulfill the requirement of two-thirds of the CC members having to resign to allow for fresh elections to be held.

ReplyDeleteCMF should have behaved like a filial daughter when daddy and uncles were having some misunderstandings. Should have tried to mediate so that the family did not have to go through all these unnecessary pains. Instead she was one of the most vocal and ferocious players thus her credibility as the Wanita Chairperson is tainted now. If ever a fresh polls is held she should offer to step down and recontest the post for endorsement.
