The first MCA special committee meeting to look into the details of fresh polls today arrived at a surprising conclusion - there may be no fresh polls at all!
Committee chairperson and party deputy president Dr Chua Soi Lek told reporters after an hour-long meeting this morning that there were too many technical and legal issues involved for fresh elections to be held.
"The possibility (of not holding fresh polls) is very high," he said.He also added that only 13 central committee members, including himself, were willing to resign to pave way for fresh polls. He did not however reveal the identity of these CC members.
Party constitution stipulates the resignation of 20 elected CC members for fresh polls to be held.
Previously, vice-president Liow Tiong Lai, who is the leader of another faction, had said that 13 CC members from his faction were ready to resign.
Chua also indicated that the only way out for the present party leadership tussle was to hold elections to allow incumbents to retain their posts.
Last Wednesday, the MCA CC meeting decided to postpone its annual general meeting which was supposed to be held last Saturday to another date to allow the party to decide on the fresh polls.
A special committee headed by Chua was formed to look into the date and manner of the fresh elections.
Liow's faction had sought for new elections to be held within 60 days but both Chua and party president Ong Tee Keat preferred a date after March.
As long as there are no elections for the Youth and Wanita Wings any elected President from the OTK-CSL Faction will not be able to function effectively. There will never be a true MCA Elections if the Youth and Wanita Wings refused to have fresh elections.

Liow & Co is wasting MCA precious time. Don't they want to have fresh election. look like they don't... What is there to be scared of? Fresh polls is good after such a long hangover constitutional crisis. Who are these other 12 ccms, are they from Liow's. Take the challenge to have CC & both youth & Wanita wings election at the same time. Finally reveals who are the coward ones. All are waiting!

ReplyDeleteSorry, veteran, you get sucked in the mire/quicksand situation . Everything is precarious in politics. Just throw in your resignation and allow for quicksand to swallow Low&brutuses. Might be better. discipline might take a ong time in coming - more chaos - no repeat of what had happened before.

Liow and brutuses (PKFZ legacy) filled most of the BN quotas ministers and deputy ministers - voting them out means MCA is willing to let UMNO fill the quota right?

ReplyDeleteThe special committee should be firm and decisive. Once decided, anyone who breach the party discipline should be dealt with accordingly.
ReplyDeleteMCA should not be wasting time, resources and energy but rather should be focussing in the responsibilites entrusted to them to serve the
Chinese community.
Poiticians should be able to change their attitude and be more discipline towards the party by suporting GUP to heal, unite and serve. The party election is only about 1 1/2 years to go, so why can't LTL and co. wait?
Any fresh election should be for the THREE MAIN WINGS of the party.
CMF cannot be mother of anything. She is barren.
