Muhyiddin: No forgiving you Chin Peng
PUTRAJAYA, Nov 24 — The government has closed the door on former Communist Party of Malaya secretary-general Chin Peng from returning to the country, reneging on the agreement which led to the CPM laying down arms 20 years ago.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today the government was sensitive to the sentiments of the people who were still angry over the terrorist acts committed by the communist leader during the emergency years,
Bernama quoted him as saying this when asked to comment on the apology by the former MCP leader which was published by a local English daily yesterday.
He said that if there was any change in the decision, it would be discussed again in Cabinet.
“As of now, there is no forgiveness for you (Tiada maaf bagimu),” he said.
On September 30, the Kuala Lumpur High Court struck out Chin Peng’s suit against the federal government for going against the spirit of the peace treaties signed with the communist insurgents two decades ago.
Chin Peng’s defeat in court came even though former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Rahim Noor and other former security officers were ready to testify on his behalf.
Born Ong Boon Hua, and once the country’s “Public Enemy No 1” for leading a bloody communist insurgency before laying down arms 20 years ago, he told The Malaysian Insider in an interview in October that he only wishes to die a Malaysian and be buried next to his grandfather and father in Sitiawan, Perak.
Chin Peng, 85 has been trying to obtain permission to return to Malaysia but the authorities have refused to accede to his request, pointing to CPM’s past atrocities and body count of servicemen at the hands of communists.
The treaties between the Malaysian government and the CPM was signed on Dec 2 1989 in Haadyai, Thailand.
