Hainanese group slams daily

over report on Ong

By SARBAN SINGH

SEREMBAN: The Hainanese community took to task a Chinese daily for publishing a news article which claimed its leader Datuk Foo Sae Heng had said the association was considering withdrawing an exemplary service award given to MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.

Foo, the Federation of Hainan Association Malaysia president, said the manner his remarks were misrepresented by Sin Chew Daily showed the newspaper had a personal agenda against Ong.

Misrepresented: Foo (centre) flanked by Beh (left) and state MCA legal affairs adviser Tan Foong Luen responding to questions at the Negri Sembilan Hainan Association office in Seremban yesterday.

“It is strange that only Sin Chew got it (his remarks made during the dinner) wrong while all the other Chinese dailies got it right,” Foo said at a press conference at the Negri Sembilan Hainan Association here.

Foo said he had attended a dinner organised by the association here on Tuesday and was merely responding to questions by members if the federation was prepared to withdraw the Hainanese Exemplary Service Award given to its recipients.

Foo said that he had replied that the move could be considered but the final decision rested with the federation’s central committee.

“At no point was Ong’s name mentioned. But the newspaper named him in the heading in the story they carried the next day,” he said.

Apart from Ong, the other previous recipients of the award include MCA Wanita chief Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, Deputy Higher Education Minister Dr Hou Kok Chung, Tebrau MP Teng Boon Soon, MCA central committee member Wong Nai Chee and Selangor speaker Teng Chang Kim.

Foo, who became association president in June, said he had spoken with Sin Chew editors and hoped they would rectify the error.

“I don’t know how this happened but I want them to correct the situation.

“This is not good because I never uttered Ong’s name or implicated the MCA president in this.

“The Hainanese community and I respect Ong and hold him in high esteem,” he said.

Foo, a businessman, said he received many calls from angry members over the story as they assumed he had mentioned Ong’s name in his answer given that night.

Also present at the media conference were state Hainan association head Beh Nyap Sung and his committee members.

Can someone please tell me did he really said that or did he Not ... can't trust these people anymore , always blame the press when people are angry with them , that they are quoted out of context . But it always Sinchew ....that damned fcuking paper .

  1. According to what I watch from the 8TV Mandarin news, no, this kepala angin guy didn't say "Ong Tee Keat" (or Ong Shi Jie in Mandarin).

But he did scold a certain "Transport Minister" of being useless to the Chinese community, tho.

    Dunno la !

Maybe this guy is from Hailamsia or where-ever, where they happen to have a "Transport Minister" whose name is not "Ong Tee Keat".

  7. Sin Chew's Tiong is buying people left and right to create dissent. This is dangerous to the govt. For sake of national security, he must be forced to divest his holdings in the newspaper. This is for national security.

    (1) Sin Chew Daily's Executive Editor Mdm Tai Siew Khim had apologised )for mentioning OTK's name in the news headline;she blamed the Seremban reporter for confirming that Mr. Foo Sae Heng did mention OTK's name in the speech but later found out (from tapes)that no name was mentioned;

    (2) It appears that Mr. Foo was also "anti-OTK". Foo spoke about the "SPIRIT" award were given to "MINISTER", he further said: "He (the Minister) did not perform; instead he (the Minister) created troubles. If there is any member (of the Hainanese Association) wishes to withdraw the award, I will support...."

    (3) When asked whether the Minister was "OTK" by reporters after the dinner, Foo said "YOU KNOW WHO LAH...."

    (4) MCA has 4 ministers and only one is Hainanese. So I think it NOT WRONG for the newspaper to insert OTK's name in the news, because Foo was clearly referring to OTK (the Minister). It didnot matter that Foo did not mention OTK's name expressly.

    (5) Now Foo was under pressure and "kena skru" by some of his members...he turned around to blame Sin Chew....So Foo is also a "BAD GUY"lah....

I would recall one Hainanese expression to describe this Foo: Nang Bo Ti Nang. Kui Bo Ti Kui !

  12. It is not a surprise that many Hainanese can't be trusted and they have character problems like any other chinese clan. I can vouchsafe that many Hainanese leaders are fickle-minded and like to condemn others without looking at facts. They go with the flow like they're easily influened or easily offended. They only want money, they don't really care about the Association members but make use of them and don't bother when they don't need them - doesn't matter whether one is life member or not. It means nothing to Ass leaders. Their tongue is sugarcoated when they only want your help. Piss them off. That's why many don't care to attend their meetings. It is therefore not a surprise that OTK is not looked upon by some of these leaders honourably. Some of the members are okay. OTK as a hainanese I feel compassonate for you. You're more 'sinned than sinning' like what W. Shakespeare said in one of his play "King Lear" uttered through the King himself in one of his discourses. When you're down your own people instead of giving you the support, they leave you cold and forsake you. But don't you be downhearted, an angel, a mighty one indeed not of flesh or blood but God Himself, is leading and protecting you so long as you are doing righteous deeds and stand on principles. You can be assured of His mighty power and no one can harm you not even the legions of evil angels that are currently belting the globe. You have to be strong and be firm and stand your ground and not retreat. As a soldier for righteouness help is there - a divine one, too, will succour you in the hour of need. Don't rely too much on humans as they are only straws or grass that withers. Their glory is their stomach and the greed of this world. I salute those who are behind OTK in fighting for a just course and stand on righteous value and principles. I should think those who support OTK like TLK and others who stand solidly behind OTK though heaven may fall be given the moral support to continue the course of justice and to triump over evil and evil people. Soldier on! Unbias

Let's discuss the main issues and principles onlylah. Forget about "XX fong" and sectarian attacks/character assisination....

  19. no need to say generalised to not-generalised. Just look at chinamen doing business you know their kiasu kiasi mentality.

ever see a mamak stalls or cluster of mamak stalls dropping their roti canai price to compete?? ALMOST NEVER.

ever seen chinamen businessmen killing each other or wiping each other out in everyday business (or other activities?) -- YES. EVERYDAY.

    hahah

  20. Dear hahah,

I sincerely think your brain is wired backwards.

The mamak stores never engage in any price competition precisely they are kiasi and kiasu !

They kia (afraid) that if ever the price war is on, their earning gonna plummeted.

On the other hand, Chinamen (Chinawomen for that matter), dare (ka-ka) to step into any price war anytime, anywhere, for any reason.

Why? Precisely the Chinamen (and Chinawomen) don't really scared about plummeting profits.

All they want is their opponents go belly up !

    that's right/ korek korek korek

they wanna to eliminate any coompetition - they want it ALL for themselves - just like LTL, WKS & ilk.

Yes you re right - they want everyonelse to go belly up/

    Ah koon
