MCA resignations a ploy to kick out Tee Keat
By Clara Chooi
KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 — The mass resignations of 21 MCA central committee members last Thursday was apparently part of a grand scheme brokered by party leaders to throw out their sitting president since the implementation of last year’s peace plan.
A top party leader told The Malaysian Insider that all factions of the embattled party had agreed that MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat deserved the boot.
“We agreed to give the peace plan some time to work but there were problems even from the start. We knew that we were heading down this road,” said the leader, who declined to be named.
The party leader added Ong had deepened his own grave when he refused to acknowledge results of last October’s Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) and insisted on staying on as president.
The peace plan was introduced upon intervention by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak when it was clear that the second largest component party in Barisan Nasional (BN) had reached a deadlock in its crisis.
The plan may have cemented the stubborn chief’s position but it had also loosened the soil beneath him as other leaders came together to decide when and how to remove him.
For one thing, the plan saw the reinstatement of formerly sacked deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
Like Ong, Dr Chua had also lost his chance to make a return to the party when delegates voted against his reinstatement at the EGM but agreed that his sacking, which was made over his sex scandal, should be overturned.
The party source said that the combination of Ong and Dr Chua as president and deputy was a match made in hell as the latter had troubles seeing eye to eye with the former.
“You would not understand this. It is actually merely about party administrative matters. Ong would go about doing things at his own whims and fancies and Dr Chua found it difficult to work with him. It is very hard when you are there as deputy but you find you are often powerless,” said the source.
Indeed it was clear that the Dr Chua-Ong union was not really representative of an ideal “peace plan” as the duo were hardly seen on friendly terms and even when in attendance at official functions, Dr Chua would often leave early.
It was just a matter of time before the upswell broke the surface and shattered the ground beneath Ong.
With Thursday’s resignations, said the source, the posts in the party’s top leadership has now been opened like a buffet table and it would be interesting to see who would vie for a place.
Upon the announcements of the resignations, the remaining members of the MCA central committee decided to hold the polls to elect a new leadership on March 28.
The leader noted that for now, Dr Chua is set to take the lead.
“He will contest for presidency and it looks as if he will be going up against Ong,” he added.
The leader said party vice-president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, who had been the strongest opposing voice in the anti-Ong camp since the last EGM, may settle for the party’s deputy presidency.
“Of course, politics is very fluid and things can change at any time. Everyone has their own agenda. But for the sake of getting Ong out of the picture, Liow is willing to step back and let Dr Chua contest for top post,” he noted.
Whether Dr Chua wins the post or not, he added, is a different story.
However, going by the results of the EGM, it looks as if delegates may just choose Dr Chua as the lesser of two evils, added the source.
When contacted however, Liow was tight-lipped about his plans.
“Tee Keat is going to proceed with his annual general meeting (AGM) this Sunday. I will not be there but I will be keeping watch from now on before announcing my next move,” he said when asked if he planned to go for top post.
The source said that respect for Liow had waned considerably due to his eagerness to kick Ong out of the picture.
“He talked too much and the more he talked, the more respect he lost. It is the same with (MCA Wanita chief Datin Paduka) Chew Mei Fun. She has been saying too much,” said the source.
He added that there was a high likelihood that former party secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan would make a comeback to contest for a top post in the party.
“Yes, that is what I heard. You never know. You have to wait and see,” he said. Another possible contender is vice-president Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha, who had also resigned on Thursday.
The quiet Housing and Local Government Minister has maintained his silence over the events of the past few days and would only say that he had not yet decided on which post he would contest on March 28.
The Malaysian Insider understands however that Kong had held a private meeting with Dr Chua at a hotel last night to update one another on the recent events.
Whether this means that a Dr Chua-Kong union for president and deputy is in the cards remains to be seen.
For now, as the MCA polls looms ahead, it looks as if all players in the game are bidding for time, waiting for the first person to make his or her move first before jumping in for the kill. “You know who is happiest in this whole scenario? The delegates. They are very happy because they know that they hold the power in their hands,” said the source.
MCA leaders seemed to be funny kind. We have oversexed like CSL and frigid like CMF.
ReplyDeleteDear justice4otk,
ReplyDeleteToday, the Chinese are very anti-BN. They have not reached the level to be anti MCA yet!
Look at Penang! Overall, the Chinese are happier now than they were when they were with the Gerakan. KTK were virtually licking UMNO's balls and were more interested to amass wealth for himself than the people of Penang.
Basing on the same scenario, if OTK allows MCA to be run by the Renegades, MCA will be like Penang..the Renegades will benefit on the expense of the Chinese.
OTK must tell the truth and shame the Devil(UMNO). Expose everybody in the PKFZ! Since he has not been forgotten and forgiven by Hisham over the corruption matter in the Education Ministry, why beg for it.
Whatever steps OTK takes from now on must portray the image of him being anti UMNO and fully supporting the Chinese in MCA.
If you look back on every UMNO AGM days. A few days before each AGM, UMNO will always portray an image of pro muslim and for the Malays. All newspapers will report news of support from MIC and MCA.
Why cant OTK do the same??
To Anon 10:25,
ReplyDeleteCSL dont worry about the frigidity of CMF because CSL is so tall. If both of them stand face to face and naked, you know where CMF's mouth is...make a guess?
I admired from one lady CD speak in the AGM - why the BN component did not send their representative to attend the AGM for the sake of Malaysian. MCA has been with UMNO/MIC before INDEPENDENT. MCA AGM is not an illegal gathering and no reason why other BN component did not attend.OTK is having the first term MCA president and only him has the support from Chinese from top to bottom level. For the MCA renegades they feel happy because the president of component party reject to attend the AGM, from there chinese can see in their eyes have MONEY/POSITION and not concern the sake of chinese if the 3rd time AGM call is fail again. If we want BN component to respect MCA , at least as a leader should respect his own party.Same as UMNO why supports the renegades from his component because they know their leaders weakness. Since this AGM, the true face of UMNO and value to promote One Malaysian is going down very much now.

ReplyDeleteOTK needs to consolidate his position first . To take on ARMO you need to be seen and known as a STRONG President , not a president who controls only one third of the MCA .
Only then can you talk from a position of strength with ARMO .
You also cannot open too many battle fronts in a war . Your resources will be thinned . You need to move one at a time . OTK has only been president for slightly over a year and we are already facing so many onslaughts on his presidency .
We need to clear this hurdle first , then the next GE is important , if MCA cannot win more than 15 parliament seat , how to talk ? when we were having more than 33 before 308 .
So one thing at a time .
It is unbecoming of the PM not to attend the AGM which is legal and law abiding. It only shows the iMalaysia slogan is a sham and bankrupt of unity and support even among component parties within BN. What ajerk Armno is when it comes to making decision. OTK should sound this out- why are you not supporting the rightful leader and not its rebels. DPM is also a jerk.
ReplyDeleteNow how can CSL create trouble by resigning and bring in all his fellas to resign with him just days before he AGM.
How could a porn star become president of MCA? It will be the first time for chinese MCA in BN. Can people accept it - no way. This shows if that's the case chinese MCA has very low morals - too bad. If you check on Internet Porn CSL is on the list of porn ....including tiger and tiger mistress, etc. What a joke this MCA.
OTK is a man of better characters than all these goons. I am no DAP supporter or PK but I admire a man whose sterling is worth more than allthese renages put together. I find CSL to be a very immoral person as former health minister with wife and kids and yet behave like toger in the woods roaming wild. Even a bachelor well taught and disciplined would not even dare to do illicit sex. Tainted people like him should resign as party member altogether. I deplore all acts of immorality and once you're caught you should resign voluntarily. Don't say you are being framed and still want to be minister. Shame on you and your pack who support you. MCA is shamed by these kind of character. First time chinese are put to shame, dirt and porn. Bad feng shui this 328 egm.
Since Najib doesn't want to attend MCA's AGM, from now on, Najib should be in the "Not Welcome List" of MCA.
ReplyDeleteMCA can do better without the presence of Najib or any of those arm no racist a-holes !
As an MCA member I am saddened to see BN leaders shying from the MCA assembly which is legal and binding. If BN leaders do not respect MCA do you think we MCA members will support BN leaders in the next GE. Sometimes people act without thinking of the consequences.
ReplyDelete" Today, the Chinese are very anti-BN. They have not reached the level to be anti MCA yet! "
ReplyDeleteI think you are wrong. I voted MCA all these years. Now. No more. MCA is nothing but a freak show. If MCA can respect itself, why should we bother with it.
I sincerely believe that MCA should shut down and form a new party with new constitution. This is the ultimate transformation.
Imagine after 328 , PM/DPM will give an welcoming statement to new president of MCA - CSL ? Will PM/DPM attend the swearing ceremony of MCA new leadership under CSL ? May be LTL should ask both leaders first. Otherwise they will reject again on whatever the reason.MCA must now learn INDEPENDENT without the present of BN component leaders on whatever party functions. May be can win back the support from Chinese and the votes come back to BN. ONE MALAYSIAN SLOGAN STARTS FROM NOW IS A SHAME FOR CHINESE TO MENTION.
ReplyDelete328 is a straight fight between CSL & OTK. But 322 nomination may 3-4 corner fight. Base on the present founding of president post is still - OTK.LTL at the end will side OTK.
ReplyDeleteThe possible team of CSL - CCH/NYY/KKH/CCHiung/LTL/WKS (1000 CDs).The Fresh Election is a milestone for Reborn Of MCA to be more independent , stronger , understanding , cohesion , with love and RESPECTFUL mono political party. There is only BLACK & WHITE , No middle GREY lane. The CDs will not disappointing Chinese Community. ONE MALAYSIAN IS GAME OVER.
