'MACC welcome to ensure MCA polls is clean'

BUTTERWORTH: The move by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to monitor blogsites and media reports in the run-up to the MCA elections on Sunday is appropriate to ensure that the polls are free of corruption and money politics, MCA president Ong Tee Keat said today.

He said that though it was only party elections, the MACC's intention was welcomed as it would check the spread of an undesirable culture contrary to social practices in the party.

"Party elections are not the place for us to make promises or dish out money," he said after a ground-breaking ceremony at the Sin Ya Chinese primary school, near here.

Claims of money politics

MACC director of investigations Mustafar Ali reportedly said yesterday that the commission would monitor blogsites and media reports related to claims of money politics in the run-up to the MCA elections.

Mustafar said the MACC would initiate investigations on complaints.

The MCA elections will see a three-cornered contest for the post of president, with Tee Keat challenged by former president Ong Ka Ting and former deputy president Dr Chua Soi Lek.

  1. KUALA LUMPUR, March 24 — Perlis MCA chief Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun has denied that Titi Tinggi assemblyman Yip Sun Onn’s shock resignation is linked to MCA’s infighting, saying it should not be a campaign weapon in the March 28.

She said Yip resigned for personal reason. Yeah! Right! She is the personal reason. She is the pain in the butt.

Even before OKT wins, his people are already witch hunting.

  3. JOHOR BAHARU - The three candidates vying for the president's post in the coming MCA party election have been urged to have a live debate on national television on the party's issues.
Incumbent Ong Tee Keat, former deputy president Dr Chua Soi Lek and former president Ong Ka Ting should debate issues pertaining to the party in the days leading up to the March 28 election.
MCA veteran Low Teh Hian, who represented 18 delegates from the MCA Pulai division, said the trio must each explain how to tackle the party's issues and problems.
"The debate should be in Mandarin and English," he told pressmen here on Tuesday.
Low said the delegates expressed full support to Dr Chua for the presidency, as they believed in his leadership.
"He has the ability to stabilise and unite the party under one banner," he said.

    ..........................

A typical MCA mentality sidestepping the root cause of the problem believing Dr Chua can stabilise and unite the party with his infidelity and treachery tags. When he walk out of the Great Unity Plan and boycott the AGM, the actions alone have effect the split which also display his real character that he does have the interest of MCA at heart but to become the MCA president at all cost as such he have no more standing to talk about unity in MCA.

Off course, the public definitely would like to see live debate among the candidates completing for the president post. However the topic should be how to make MCA attractive to the public and which leader have the community support to lead MCA. The public support are the most important for MCA to to well the 13th election. No point winning debate and election within MCA and then reject by the society.

In this area Dr Chua and Ong Ka Ting have nothing to offer
