Grassroots Don't Back Unity Plan : Liow

KUANTAN, Nov 15 — The decision taken at the MCA dialogue today to support the “greater unity plan” did not reflect the views of the grassroots, said party vice-president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

He said the decision was made by some leaders only and not by all the delegates. Liow claimed that from his meetings with MCA divisional leaders nationwide, there was a strong call from the delegates for the second extraordinary general meeting (EGM) be convened to allow new party elections.

“We have good support on the ground and we understand that it is a duty and responsibility of the delegates to decide and resolve the party crisis,” he told reporters after meeting with six Pahang MCA divisions, here, today.

Liow was asked about the dialogue between the party’s top leaders and 620 members from 155 divisions who supported the “greater unity plan” mooted by the president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat and his deputy Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, as well as declaring the second EGM scheduled for Nov 28 as invalid.

Liow, however, said the EGM would go on as planned and that it was legal under the law and party constitution. “Through another party election, we will be able to restore the party’s honour and integrity.”

He said democracy must be revived in the party by returning the power to the delegates in determining the party leadership.

Asked whether his action of holding a meeting with the division leaders today would kill his political career, Liow said he was only carrying out his duty as a party leader.

“I’m just getting the delegates to come out and say their views. We are not out to topple anyone, so why the worry?” he said. — Bernama

  1. Why LTL keeps sticking to deadwood theory that one must respect the oct egm while ignoring the party constitution of the need to have 2/3 ...? Sound weird! Ignorance of the law is no excuse. The chinese community is smart and I don't think they can be hoodwinked by such repeated yet unfounded rhetoric/claim. It is really a waste of his time as it only serves to put him in a bad light and eventually distance himself from the pack... and may lead to destruction to his career. Why a man of his standing should behave in such a fashion is beyond comprehension. Please elucidate. From Olofot

depends on the size of the division , ie the number of members the division has , for every 300 or so one delegate . So it there are 5000 members , there will be 12 delegates not including one from the wanita and incumbent ybs

  4. IS MCA wanita and youth on the Unity Plan. Or are they following their misguided leaders?

  5. MCA Youth still has its National Deputy Chairman but both the MCA Wanita Chairperson and Deputy are not supportive of GUP. Those who are National Leaders who oppose the GUP should be asked to state their stand officially in writing so that alternative actions can be taken to make GUP successful. Appoint others to replace them in the GUP committee if the turn down the appointment officially.

  6. There is nothing to worry.

The proposed "1128 EGM" is nothing.

It is nothing because it is illegal; and if illegal; therefore void; and void is nothing.

Assuming that it is something; it can always be opposed by another EGM. When neutralised, it is nothing.

When it is nothing; it is nothing.
When it is something; it is nothing.

  7. Bobo,

While it is an ultimate nothing, the more this silly drama lingers, the more damage MCA gonna get.

Anyone who wants MCA to be strong and vibrant would understand this by now, except of course, the FGZs, including this dimbulb LTL.

  8. Yes, MCA grassroots don't back GUP. They want LTL to be president; WKS-deputy president; CMF, OKC-vice president.
