What has to be done , has to be Done

KUALA LUMPUR - Ong Tee Keat has defended his decision to reshuffle the MCA presidential council, saying he needed a team that was 100 per cent behind the party's "greater unity plan" (GUP) to restore the party in time for the general election.

"We can ill-afford to have leaders who are against the GUP - much less, those out to derail a plan which had received the blessings of the prime minister - to be in the MCA presidential council," the party president wrote on his blog Thursday.

The deepening crisis in the Barisan Nasional's second biggest component party prompted Najib Abdul Razak to announce that he would meet the rival leaders due to the worsening situation.

In his blog, Ong revealed that deputy president Dr Chua Soi Lek was back as the party's liaison chief for Johor, a post the latter relinquished early last year after his video sex scandal.

mca 4.jpg"I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate his appointment as the new Johor MCA liaison committee chairman," said Ong who took over the post after Chua.

Ong, however, did not indicate whether he had reshuffled the party chiefs for the other states.

On Wednesday, Ong replaced nine presidential council members aligned to vice-president Liow Tiong Lai, including Youth head Dr Wee Ka Siong and Wanita chief Chew Mei Fun.

The move was slammed by Liow while Wee and Chew's tearful reactions were frontpaged by several dailies.

100 percent behind MCA plan

Ong said the GUP which was endorsed by the party's central committee (CC) yesterday had to be implemented swiftly.

"With this, I need a team that is 100 per cent behind the effort to bring back unity to the MCA in time for the next general election.

"To achieve this, I had reshuffled some positions in the party and had included leaders with the right skill sets, experience and vision into rolling out the GUP, which had received two-thirds support from the CC," he said.

He said it was untrue that the Youth and Wanita wings were snubbed.

Wee and Chew could still sit in the presidential council as invited members to air their views, he said.

"In times like this, it is important that all party leaders set aside their differences for the sake of unity. The MCA cannot afford to lose any more time to win back support of the public in time for the next general election.

"This is why I can work with Dr Chua Soi Lek despite our past differences," Ong added.

  1. Wah, Brader Justice4OTK, our life member Sdra Roger Tan wrote again and argued that 1128 EGM is consitutional:

**The next question follows, that is, is the general assembly which is the supreme body of MCA really that powerless after the CC has declared the 1128 EGM to be unconstitutional?

The answer is obviously not. Having examined again the relevant provisions of the MCA constitution with my friend Edmund Bon, who handles many constitutional law cases and is also chairman of the constitutional law committee of the Bar Council, I agree with his view that the 1128 EGM is lawful and the requisitionists are entitled to go ahead with it for the following reasons:

    (1) Under Article 32, the quorum for the 1128 EGM is one-third of the delegates. If the quorum is met, and if the resolution for calling for fresh polls is carried by two-thirds of the delegates present at the 1128 EGM, then this is tantamount to having dismissed all the CC members under Article 35. If this happens, the resolution if carried is perfectly constitutional....**

Right is right. Wrong is wrong. There is no other way, Sdra Roger Tan.

To survive, we need solutions; not EGM after EGM.

Let's close ranks first under the GUP. After Chinese New Year only we talk about party electionlah...especially direct election of President....This will be more representative.

Be patient , the EGM in my opinion will not proceed , they will not get the 800 delegates needed for the quorum . There is also talk that the EGM will be asked to be aborted by Liow's grandfather .

  3. Haha. Don't know why they still want to say EGM this EGM that. It is so obvious the call for EGM is unlawful/unconstitional already.

    Let them syiok sendiri.

It might be Tee Keat's right to do so, but it comes at a wrong time. It could have been done in a better way.

Moreover, the Youth Wing and Wanita movement should remove Ka Siong and Mei Fun if the leadership wants their movement to be represented by Dr Mah and Senator Heng.

Otherwise, problems will exist. I don't wish to see conflicts or sabotages in the 13th GE. It is already evidently clear that the political lines have been drawn.

If there is any party election, it DOES NOT matter whether CSL wants to challenge OTK....

That is the fight among gentlemen.

Where got "hell breaks loose" and/or hungry ghosts "ley loose"?

Who knows--by that time--OTK may not be interested anymore to be no.1?

Footnote: LTL & WKA surely are interested!

  8. The enemy camp has some very wise advisors.

    OTK owns the word "Anti-Corruption"

When I say "owns", I mean, when the people talk about "Anti-Corruption", the image of OTK comes up.

In fact, OTK is the ONE AND ONLY POLITICIAN in Malaysia's 52 years history to own "Anti-Corruption".

The enemies know it, so they are trying to stick another image to OTK --- Dictator.

Their cry for "Democracy" is just that, an attempt to portray OTK as people who is "Anti-Democracy".

    Will the enemy succeed?

Well... it depends on you guys.

If you still do what you guys have been doing, then sooner or later, the image of a "dictator" will come up whenever the people talk about OTK.

  12. Indeed, I do agree to a certain extent that problems might exist if one day Soi Lek decides to fight the President.

But I believe it is all about strategies. Do not underestimate the President and his team. If his political strategists are smart, Tee Keat can stay on for a very long time and can even be the best ever MCA President.

This perception can be upheld among the Press, the people and MCA members.

Again, this will only be possible with clever strategies and right marketing. Otherwise, the President could lose the plot.

Kalambong, the image of OTK as a dictator is already being mentioned among MCA members, within BN and among the people.

I have always said that Tee Keat has to be authoritative, but the timing is not right especially after the 10-10-10 EGM and with the Press not on Tee Keat's side.

There are many ways to deliver his authority but definitely not through the current method.

As much as we know Tee Keat owns the word "anti corruption" and "justice", it is evident that the marketeers and strategists of Tee Keat have failed to make the President shine.

Otherwise, the President won't be in such a dilemma and critical condition.

It is time that Tee Keat expands his team of strategists or remove some of them. I don't want to see Tee Keat being ill advised and I certainly don't want the President to head into the wall.

  13. Dao De Politic,

GUP first then bla-bla-bla.... See CSL already took over Johor. His machai all wake up from hybernations.... Like BCina says, CSL will whack OTK as OTK has no grass root supports. OTK has 50-50 chances before even with LTL,WKSsupport. But now, I think he can only get 30% or less. Johor's support for OTK has dwindled very fast.

OTK should head MACC to improve Malaysia stading in fighting graft.

For unity is MCA, CSL has to go and no two ways about it.

  14. Goh,

OTK may be a good person but he lacks strategy and leadership. What is the point of pointing out mistake in government and he himself get burried together with the projects.

He read a lot of "swordman" novel but he forgot about Lim che Su the "Opium War" hero - how he fight the british. He can not do it alone. you need to keep your team intact which OTK failed. Even his team was corrupted but he did not confronted them. he buy them over (not by giving positions and money).

  15. I maintain that it is ACCEPTABLE if CSL is still interested in/ambitious to be No.1.

Let the two gentlemen fight it out.

Who knows CSL may decline nomination for No.1 post? So OTK--if he is still interested--may face challengers from Ong Ka Chuan-Liow Tiong Lai team?

Everything is possible lah next March 2010 when the party election is held. May be the direct election of President is already possible by then?

HOPE TO SEE A UNITED & STRONG MCA soon!

I personally know what Tee Keat has done and I know he is a good leader. I don't abandon ship and I won't abandon him till the day he steps down and retire.

But that is not important. I let others tell you how much Tee Keat has done for the Chinese community and the Malaysian public.

Sometimes, Tee Keat has his opinions. But I do believe he has a team of strategists whom he consult. And I am worried that the team of strategists are just rubber stamping his ideas and say "President, yes yes betul".

I sure hope the President expands his team or revamp it.

I don't blame the President for his decisions. I only blame his team members whom are suppose to ensure that the President make the right moves at the right time.

When a political strategist does not perform in the White House that caused the President of United States to blunder, the political strategist will be sacked.

As such, I hope Tee Keat considers a revamp or expansion of his strategists.

  18. Goh,

As a non-member of MCA, I too have seen what OTK has done for the Chinese.

That is why, even when I am not in MCA, I still support him.

Regarding the allegation of Anon 09:41, that OTK bought over his corrupted team, that is not true.

The truth is that his corrupt team has misled OTK.

OTK is a human after all, and he has his weaknesses.

One of his weakness is his trust on those turned out to be FGZs, especially LTL.

I have said it before, that everything that has transpired is a blessing in disguised.

OTK was sleeping, but now he is fully awake.

OTK trusted the FGZs too much, right now they know who the FGZs are.

OTK was caught unprepared, now he knows the value of being prepared.

That is the "blessings" that OTK has gained through this agonizing time.

What OTK needs to do now is to have a broader view of what is going on.

There are just too much going on, and OTK is in the middle of the whirlpool.

He needs to take a step back, look at the broader picture, and then go back in and fight it out.

That is why I say the people who are still supporting OTK must help him discern what's going on, and must adopt new strategies to counter the enemies.

They have been trying, to some level of success, in portraying OTK as a dictator.

In fact, it was the FGZs that have tricked OTK to kick out CSL in the first place !

OTK and his people needs to figure out how to counter that.

Plus they need to figure out new ways to counter attack.

Those are the things OTK needs to do, and I hope his people will help him achieve that, for the good of MCA, and for the good of all Chinese in Malaysia !

  21. The letter was post to PM Najib in his website, hopefully it get to his attention.

    Dear Datuk Seri,

Many ordinary people like me care and wish to see our country progress in a well, clean and sustainable manner which can make every Malaysian proud. Since you took over the premiership, we have seen notable improvement, clearly you have been doing a very good job in getting the country on it footing again.

But lately your desire to involve in MCA affair concern vast number of people who think that MCA is transitioning for better and some hiccup is normal. As such no need to interfere in the process, your good intension will be looked by the Chinese community as muscling in on MAC business and this may eclipse all your good deeds.

I am from the ground and not member of any political party but I can safely say with confidence that majority of Chinese community want Dutuk Seri Ong Tee Keat to lead MCA. With his leadership MCA have begin picking up the bits and pieces with the aim to make MCA stronger, better and effective political party. The Chinese support have been slowly clawing back until some body mess it up, because the impatient to move up. The community at large condemn the actions of these people who try to rob the MCA Presidentship by all sorts of cunning and evil tactics, we should not allow such unhealthy activities to set foot in our system.

With the current mess, the Greater Unity Plan is a right decision and a good compromise which allow certain period of stability and certainty. Ample time have been given to the trouble makers to repent, since it is not happening and these people couldn't care to accept any goodwill, not willing to cooperate or voluntarily step aside, instead choose to defiant and challenge the President approach, the MCA President have no choice but to take the painful and drastic measure to remove the obstacle. The President need team player and not politician to forge ahead with his radical overhaul and reforms of MCA to keep pace with the publics sentiment. It is very straight forward and the geniuses in UMNO should know about it and should shop ridiculing MCA leadership, it will not make UMNO people any good to take side other than giving the impression that UMNO people have a lot to hide so it their interest to see Dato' Sri Ong Tee Keat remove.

I do not doubt in your sincerity but some UMNO people behavior is questionable.

    Thank you......

  23. WAH, if it is true PM Najib had come in, and DPM Muhyiddin to folow up during the next 2-3 days...MCA leadership has got NO CHOICE but to announce the date for an EGM to hold party election.

Otherwise the FGZs led by Liow liao liao refuse to withdraw their 1128 EGM!

Deputy President CSL had mentioned Mac 2010 as the election date, after Jan-Feb Chinese New Year....[The new year -TIGER year- will fall on Feb 14, 2010]

CSL wanted the 1128 EGM to be aborted. But Liow is recalcitrant and wanted the date to be fixed first for EGM/party election...otherwise 1128 EGM shall proceed....

To get a date, we have to refer to Article 41:

<<41. If two-thirds or more of the elected members of the Central
Committee shall at any time cease to be members of the
Central Committee the remaining members shall within
three (3) days of the day when that event occurs elect one
of themselves to convene at the shortest possible time and
in any event not later than thirty (30) days from the date of
that event an Extraordinary Meeting of the General
Assembly to elect a new Central Committee. Until a new
Central Committee has been elected the remaining
members of the Central Committee shall administer the
affairs of the Party. Provided that nothing herein shall
prevent the re-election of any ex-Central Committee
    Members.>>

Assuming (for the time being)that the leadership agrees to the party election ( as suggested by PM), and that a date has to be announced before 1128, this means 2/3 of CC members will have to resign on, say, 27 Nov. The balance 1/3 will run the party and issue notice for an EGM/party election as early as 5 Dec 2009 --but must be NOT LATER THAN 26 Jan 2010.

If this scenario is like that, sure we are very "Kan Cheong" man!

I personally wish the EGM/party election be held in January 2010. Certainly not March 2010 as suggested by CSL. Because it should not drag on for too long.

It APPEARS that the party election is INEVITABLE now, because PM had proposed it, and "echoed" by our "yes-men" Chinese business community leaders such as TS William Cheng....

I am CONFIDENT that OTK--if he is still interested to remain as No.1 --"can" win the election.

    NAMO AMITABHA BUDDHA.

    -Boddhi Lai-

    It should read:
