BN wins but slips up on Chinese support

KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 — The Rasa Chinese primary school is RM3 million richer today from a campaign promise after Barisan Nasional (BN) won yesterday’s Hulu Selangor by-election but the ruling federal coalition is concerned that it failed to garner greater Chinese support.

BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said it might have won the seat with a 1,725-vote majority but the coalition has to improve support from the Chinese community, which again turned its back on the BN this by-election and in Election 2008.

“We have to see where we are going wrong. I will meet other component parties to discuss this matter but we are glad that the Indian votes are coming back. The Malays too have backed the BN,” he said last night after the results were announced.

“The support among the Chinese still has not improved. When we started to campaign here, the level of support was just about 12 to 15 per cent. After the Prime Minister went to the ground it improved to about 25 per cent,” he said. 25% only support from the Chinese ?

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said the party needed a paradigm shift in its approach towards the Chinese community as the community was not very concerned with basic needs and amenities.

“This paradigm shift must come from MCA leaders. Apart from that Hulu Selangor also has got its own internal problems. For me and other party leaders, there is a lot of work to do.

“This is another wake-up call. If they do not know how to put aside their differences then MCA would become a political dustbin or a political dinosaur,” said the newly-elected party president.

He noted the party had to be more assertive to voice out concerns of the Chinese community.

Yen Yen , what happen to the Chinese support ?

MCA confident or rising BN support in new village

HULU SELANGOR, April 24 (Bernama) -- The MCA believes that support from the Chinese voters in Hulu Selangor for the Barisan Nasional (BN) is increasing as they have responded warmly to the 1Malaysia concept and the Government Transformation Programme, said MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen.

She said the support from Chinese voters in Kampung Assam Kumbang was estimated at about 18 percent when she first started campaigning there two weeks ago but "after meeting with them many times", it has now increased to 25 percent.

There are 16,964 Chinese voters in the Hulu Selangor constituency, making up 26.3 percent of the 64,500 registered voters. read more

Something very wrong lah MCA ! even with promise of $3 million aid for the rebuilding of the Rasa Chinese School and the promised to the Chinese-majority voters in Kampung Hassan that the BN government would build 200 low-cost houses for them have not swung the Chinese votes . Something is very wrong with the present MCA leadership when in Serendah , Ong Tee Keat could swing the Chinese voters there from a previous 69 votes for BN to a 626 votes votes for BN .

Either they ( the MCA big wigs ) have not done their job or simply in view of the wide coverage given by the Chinese presses to them , THEY have been REJECTED by the Chinese Community for being a tainted President as the MCA president and Brutuses into the leadership .

So Mr Banana Chua , what's your paradigm shift that you are talking about ? simple ... You should NOT contest again next year when the Party has its Party election . The Chinese Community has REJECTED YOU unless if you want to see a repeat of 308 where even us MCA members voted to reject your candidates like we rejected Ka Ting's candidates , then do as you please next year !

  1. Dr. Chua...please stay on as MCA President. This will give us a strong reason to demolish MCA in the next election. Don't know about other communities and MCA members but the Malaysian Chinese would not sell their dignity for money. Please don't insult us at every election.

  2. This election shows the chinese are steadfast in their principles. It is not easy to buy chinese with all the promises and money. This is where the chinese can be a people considered as principled like a pole to the needle and will not waver despite all odds after all chinese have never begged for government support but only ask as a matter of rights and justice. Since chinese are not given those rights under the law after over 53 years they got fed up and their children have gone through thick and thin to survive. That is their culture - the correct pride and unoscilating stand. This is commendable. To say otherwise is betrayal of the inalienable content of humanity created to uphold righteousness and perfection, subject to instability of character and weaknesses/whims and fancies. Stand tall you chinese to even against chinese in MCA who dishonoured by electing a tainted President. This slip in HS of chinesevote is the first sign of a watering away of strength for MCA because of the kind of leadership in MCA. True chinese are equally adament about their rights as chinese in Malaysia after the government failed to deliver but instead make staggered appreciation of them while denying most of their rights in guises and disguises. Chinese have seen this in play through NEP/NEM and 1Malaysia. So don't play play with their minds.

The same goes to MCA as chinese will always be chinese without fear/prejudice and can even go against chinese leaders who are in the wrong and especially tainted ones at that and votes as buy election in HS has shown. This is true grit/excellence of a race that is probably more superior than any other in Malaysia. Long live for you chinese integrity and consistent stand.

Anyway, can anyone tell how much less chinese vote is captured by BN compared to parliamentary election in GE2008? How many percents? Thanks!

  4. I have been hearing from BN people (non-MCA), that BN do not need MCA anymore to win election. MCA can do what it want. If it want to leave BN, leave lah. If MCA join Pakatan, more Chinese will vote BN.

What a shame. What a let down.

  5. Pornsident is talking about paradigm shift! An overused word that has degenerated to cliche of sort. I'm surprised he is still either unrepentant or just pure ignorant pointing finger all around 'cept himself. His para-dick shift points to every direction except pointing to himself.

If the results of the adopted area of responsibility of OTK is of any indication, the grassroots have indeed rejected pornsident's leadership; so it is not outrageous to surmise that members have forsaken the current leadership and will only pledge fealty to MCA again if the tainted one is replaced.

One do not need a prophet's vision to have a Cassandra-like view of MCA's future....as the saying goes, the writing is on the wall.....

  6. FOR GOD SAKE WHO EVER BECOMES THE PRESIDENT OF MCA, MCA WILL HAVE TO DIE IN THE NEXT GE. THE CHINESE PEOPLE ARE NEVER SATISFIED, THEY GOT BIG CARS, BIG HOUSES, YET THEY SAY THE GOVERNMENT IS NO GOOD. THEIR FATHER GOT ONE SMALL PIECE OF LAND IN THE LATE 60S, IN KL, DOING CHICKEN FARMING AND PLANTING VEGETABLES,

TODAY THAT PIECE OF LAND IS WORTH MORE THAN A MILLION. THE PERSON HAS BECOMES A MILLIONAIRE OVERNITE, DUE TO POLITICAL STABILITY AND ECONOMIC GROWTH YET THEY SAY THE GOVERNMENT IS NO GOOD. THEN TELL ME WHERE TO FIND A GOOD GOVERNMENT ? WHERE TO ?

SOME OF THESE PEOPLE TALKING LIKE THEY CAN BECOME THE PM OF THE COUNTRY BUT LOOK AT THEM, IF YOU GIVE THEM A BORANG TO FILL IN TO APPLY FOR SOMETHING, HE CANNOT EVEN FILL UP PROPERLY. THIS IS THE KIND OF A LITTLE BIT RICH PEOPLE TALKING LOUDLY ABOUT POLITICS BUT THEY KNOW VERY LITTLE ABOUT THEMSELVES AND THE COUNTRY. BCOS THEY GOT A LITTLE BIT OF MONEY, THEY TALK COCK, BUT ASK THEM HOW AND WHERE THEY MAKE THERI MONIES.

THEY SURE TELL YOU THROUGH HARD WORK BUT IF THE COUNTRY IS WAR-TORN YOU THINK HE CAN MAKE THE KIND OF MONIES ?

  7. RICH AND WELL TO DO PEOPLE, AND ALSO THOSE WHOI MADE THEIR MONEY THROUGH SUSPICIOUS WAYS TIDAY THEY ARE A BIT RICH THEY STARTED USING "TRANSPARENCY, INTEGRITY" TO ATTACK THE GOVERNMENT. 8. THIS WEBSITE NO NEED TO ATTACK CSL OR MCA. IF THE MENTALITY OF CHINESE VOTERS CANNOT CHANGE, MCA WILL DIE. AFTER THE NEXT GENERATION, UMNO CAN ACCPET DAP AS ITS PARTNERS, BCOS TO UMNO WHETHER IT IS MCA OR DAP, IT WILL BE THE SAME.

  9. NO NEED TO TALK SOME MORE, THE MORE THIS BLOG TALK ABOUT CSL, IT ONLY INDICATES THIS IS THE HIGHEST ORDER OF HYPOCRISY, J4OTK IS A HYPOCRITE LIKE THE CHINESE THEMSELVES. TALK SO MUCH ABOUT TRANSPARENCY, TALK SO MUCH ABOUT JUSTICE. THE WAY THE RICH CHINESE MADE THEIR MONEY, IT IS LIKE NOBODY BUSINESS, THEY WANT TO MAKE MORE AND MORE, TO THEM RM1,000,000.00 CAR IS ONLY REASONABLE WHILE THE FELLOW POOR CHINESE HAVE TO PAY THRO THEIR NOSE FOR AM HOUSING INSTALMENTS EVERY MONTH.

YET THE RM1 MILLION PERSON WILL SAY THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT FAIR. ASK ANY CHINESE TOWKAY, HOW THEY TREAT THEIR WORKERS, VERY GOOD TREATMENT. CERTAINLY NOT, THE TOWKAYS ARE ALWAYS PREPARED TO MISTREAT, CHEAT THE WORKERS SO THAT THEY ALWAYS REMAIN RICH. IF THEY ARE BEING FAIR, THEY SHOULD TREAT THE FELLOW POOR CHINESE BETTER.

GIVE AWAY A BIT OF YR WEALTH TO THE FELOOW CHINSES SO THAT THEIR SONS AND DAUGTHERS CAN LIVE BETTER LIVE. ARE THE FILTHY RICH CHINESE WILLING TO DO IT ? DO NOT THINK THAT ONLY YR SONS AND DAUGHTHER SHOULD DRIVE BMW TO SCHOOLS WHILE OTHER PEOPLE'S SONS AND DAUAGHTHER HAVE TO SWEAT IT OUT ON PART TIME JOB WHILE SCHOOLING.

BE FAIR, WHAT SI FAIRNESS, JUSTICE, GO BACK AND ASK YRSELF B4 YOU ASK THE GOVERNMENT.

  10. Peter Tan, if you are so against this blog why are you keep coming back and spewing venom and vitriolic criticism? Don't be a moron, go start a blog of your own and you can do whatever you like there. Look, what you actually said do not make logical sense here, and should be deep-sixed accordingly because they are all non sequitur.
