A perception seems to prevail in the so-called developed countries that the developing countries like Malaysia cannot possibly understand justice and the rule of law. Accordingly, from far off and without knowing enough about the cases involved, they are fond of passing judgement and demanding for extra democratic actions to be taken e.g. by the Government telling the court what to do.
The demand that the Government of Malaysia stop the trial of Anwar for sodomy is typical of the arrogance that suggests the White Australia Policy is still alive and kicking. The desire to be the Deputy Sheriff of East Asia is still there.
I have written elsewhere about the killing of Indian students. The Members of Parliament would do well to coach their people not to be violent racists.
They should also remind themselves of the genocide perpetrated against the aborigines, whose country it was, before they were casually shot to death to make way for White settlers.
There have been quite a number of Malaysians who had been convicted of sodomy. There was no outcry from Australia or anybody else. Do Australian MPs subscribe to inequality before the law wherein big shots should not be charged for breaking the law where small shots can be charged with impunity? Malaysia does not subscribe to people being unequal before the law.
I suspect (and of course I am always suspicious) that there is a desire for regime change on the part of the MPs. They want to install their own man as head of the Malaysian Government. Can I say that it is not democratic and illegal for a foreign country to install their own candidates to lead Governments in any country? Of course they can ignore such niceties.
Anwar can make his bid when his time comes but it is for the Malaysian people to decide if he is fit to form the Government of this country. - chedet.co.cc
Kit Siang: Not all MPs support demo against Aussie MPs

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 — DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang is calling for a special Parliamentary meeting to discuss the demand made by 50 Australian MPs to drop the sodomy charge against Opposition leader
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Lim stressed that the demonstration at the Australian High Commission yesterday, organised by Barisan Nasional’s (BN) youth wing, was not the official Parliamentary stand.
“It is imperative that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak call for a special meeting to clarify this issue,” he told reporters here after attending Anwar’s sodomy hearing.
“What happened yesterday does not represent the views of Malaysian MPs in general. The views of a few BN MPs is not reflective of all MPs,” added the Ipoh Timur MP.

Raising issues that quickly stoked China’s ire, Obama used his first presidential meeting with the Dalai Lama to press Beijing, under international criticism for its Tibet policies, to preserve Tibetan identity and respect human rights there.
Obama sat down with the Dalai Lama — who is reviled by the Chinese government as a dangerous separatist but admired by many around the world as a man of peace — in the face of wider tensions over US weapons sales to Taiwan, China’s currency practices and Internet censorship.
While defying Beijing’s demands to scrap the talks and showing a willingness to irritate an increasingly assertive China, the White House took pains to keep the encounter low-key, barring media coverage of the meeting. But it later posted a photo on its official website of the two men side by side in conversation.
Beijing clearly was not placated, saying it was “strongly dissatisfied” about the meeting and expected Washington to take steps to put bilateral relations back on a healthy course.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said the meeting between Obama and the Dalai Lama “violated the US government’s repeated acceptance that Tibet is a part of China and it does not support Tibetan independence”.
Beijing did not threaten retaliation and its response was in line with past denunciations of US dealings with the Dalai Lama. But the visit could complicate Obama’s efforts to secure China’s help on key issues such as imposing tougher sanctions on Iran and forging a new global accord on climate change.
Senior Chinese military officers recently had proposed their country possibly sell part of its huge stockpile of US bonds to punish Washington for the a proposed US$6.4 billion (RM21.79 billion) arms sale to Taiwan, which China considers a renegade province.
National Endowment for Democracy is an NGO set up by the American Govt in collaboration with the CIA to give grants to various countries for the purpose of freeing the country.

Buddhist monks in Tongren, an overwhelmingly ethnic Tibetan part of northwestern Qinghai province, said they were celebrating the meeting in Washington, which is going ahead despite warnings from Beijing that Obama’s act will hurt Sino-US ties.
Tensions with Washington have already risen over issues ranging from trade and currencies to a US plan to sell US$6.4 billion (RM21.7 billion) of weapons to self-ruled Taiwan, which China considers a renegade province.
The midnight display of fireworks along a valley dotted with Tibetan Buddhist monasteries was a bold and noisy reminder that, in spite of Chinese condemnation of the Dalai Lama, he remains a potent figure in his homeland, and his meeting with Obama will be noticed here by both supporters and opponents.
“My heart is filled with joy,” said Johkang, showing off an enormous smile, standing at his monastery in this arid and mountainous part of the Qinghai province, which lies next to the official Tibet Autonomous Region.
“It is so important for us that this is happening, that the U.S. has not given in to threats and will meet our leader,” added the monk, who like many ethnic Tibetans goes only by one name.
Qinghai, called Amdo by Tibetans, is where the Dalai Lama was born in 1935. He fled into exile from Tibet in 1959 after a failed uprising against Chinese rule, and since then has campaigned for self-rule for Tibetans. China brands him a separatist.
Tibetans set off fireworks at this time of year anyway to mark the start of their traditional lunar new year.
But many Tibetan monks in Tongren told Reuters that this year they were also marking the Dalai Lama’s scheduled meeting in the White House.
“We do this whenever something big, and good happens,” said Losan, swathed in the vermillion robes of a Buddhist holy man, standing on a hillside above a monastery where monks were lighting fireworks in the early hours of today.
“He’s really going to meet Obama?” interrupted a monk standing next to him, sounding somewhat incredulous.
“I heard it on Voice Of America,” Losan told him confidently.
The sound of conch shells being blown echoed around the valley as a group of monks burnt an offering of flour and a ceremonial Tibetan scarf on a fire.
Veneration for the Dalai Lama transcends the Buddhist clergy and extends into broader Tibetan society where many resent Chinese rule and the relative wealth of Han Chinese.
“I’m very excited about who the Dalai Lama is going to meet,” said one Tibetan woman, who declined to be identified citing the sensitive nature of the topic. “But I worry about what measures the government could take against us in retaliation.”
Word of the Dalai Lama’s meeting with Obama has filtered through to Qinghai through Tibetan-language foreign radio broadcasts, monks say, though news that the meeting was happening has been mentioned in passing in state media.
Some spoke proudly of the Dalai Lama’s Nobel Peace Prize, awarded in 1989.
“That the 1.3 billion Han Chinese have never had one of their number win a Nobel prize and that we have, with just 6 million people, says something powerful,” said a monk, Tedan. “Now you understand why we love him so much.”
While technically Tibetan monasteries are not supposed to show pictures of the Dalai Lama, many in Qinghai do, the government generally having a more relaxed attitude outside of the Tibet Autonomous Region.
Still, a sense of wariness pervades Tongren.
A large new paramilitary police headquarters is being built outside the county seat, and monks mutter about occasional fines if their public devotion to the Dalai Lama becomes too much.
Around 12 months ago, also during the start of the Tibetan lunar new year, Chinese security forces maintained an obvious presence in Tongren, though lighter than in some Tibetan areas, especially Lhasa, capital of the official Tibet autonomous region.
The year before had been marked by anti-Chinese violence across Tibetan-populated parts of China, centred on Lhasa, where at least 19 died after protests by monks gave way to bloody violence, with Tibetan rioters attacking Han Chinese.
China blamed the Dalai Lama for inspiring the unrest, and regularly condemns him for seeking Tibetan independence. He has repeatedly denied being a separatist or supporting violence.
“CCTV is always saying this and that about him and about us Tibetans,” said monk Tarkey, referring to China’s main state-run television network. “The world will get a better idea about who he is once he meets Obama.” — Reuters

KOTA BARU: International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed has stressed to the international community that sodomy is not allowed under Islam and the eastern culture in Malaysia.
Mustapa, who is also Kelantan Umno liaison chief, said foreigners should first understand the country’s beliefs, culture and laws which deemed sodomy to be an offence.
“They don’t understand our culture, beliefs and laws. They should respect our country’s sovereignty,” he said in a speech during a special meeting with Barisan Nasional leaders here yesterday.
He was commenting on the act of over 50 Australian politicians who lodged a formal protest urging Malaysia to drop Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy trial saying it would hurt the country’s image.
The politicians called for the case against Anwar to be abandoned in the interest of building confidence in the impartial rule of law in Malaysia.
A foreign news agency quoted Australia’s foreign affairs parliamentary subcommittee chairman, Michael Danby, as saying that Anwar’s second sodomy trial was a shame to Malaysia’s democratic system and felt that they needed to support the Opposition leader.
The protest letter received mixed reactions from various quarters in Malaysia, with some local leaders saying the Australian MPs were extreme and unaware of Malaysia’s system of parliamentary democracy.
Mustapa said the international community should not define sodomy through their own eyes.
“In the United States, there are laws that allow gay marriages. A man can marry another man and a woman can marry another woman.
“Such practices are frowned upon by Muslims in this country and others worldwide as it is against nature,” he said.
“Therefore, the world needs to evaluate Anwar’s case through Malaysia’s lens and not their own liberal views,” he added. — Bernama

Banner with PM's image torn down
PORT KLANG – Someone or some people in Klang do not like the face of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak looking down at them from a banner.
So, they tore the cloth banner down!
This has angered a group of restaurant owners and traders in Pandamaran, who had hung the banner to welcome Najib to a Chinese New Year event in their town.
Aside that, numerous buntings to mark the event were also pulled down by the enforcers from the Klang municipal council.
The banner, measuring 40ft by 32 ft, was put up on Thursday by the Chinese community in the area, who had invited the prime minister to their event at Jalan Chan AhChoo..
A representative of the celebrations organising committee, Yee Kok Hong, 61, said the Najib banner at the Simpang Lima roundabout was removed at 1.30am on Sunday.
'He is the prime minister'
He said he was puzzled at the removal as it had no political slogans.
“He is the prime minister. It is only right to put up the simple banner to welcome our special guest,” he said.
“Our traders are not into politics. We see Najib’s visit as a boost for our business.
“We think his visit will put our new village on the map and help attract more visitors,” said the coffee shop owner.
'PM or MB, a permit is needed'
Selangor local government committee chairman Ronnie Liu defended the council’s action, saying the removal of the banner with Najib’s portrait had to be done as no permit was approved to put it up.
He was reported by The Star as saying that whether it is a banner for Najib or Mentri Besar Khalid Ibrahim, it needs a permit in Selangor. – Malaysian Mirror
CNY event not political affairKLANG - The tearing down of a poster to welcome Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to a grand Chinese New Year do here on Feb 20 has been described as an attempt to politicise the event.
Klang Barisan chairman Teh Kim Poo claimed the move was merely to embarrass the PM.
"The billboard was put up to welcome Najib. It did not carry any political slogan," he said.
Selangor Umno information chief Abdul Shukor Idrus accused the Selangor government of ordering the Klang Municipal Council to remove the billboard.
“This is a blatant show of disrespect to the prime minister,” he said, adding that the billboard was put up to acknowledge Najib’s impending visit to Klang.
A show of appreciation
Klang Umno chief Mazlynoor Abd Latif said Najib’s visit was a goodwill gesture towards the Chinese community in the area.
“Why politicise it? The organisers merely want to show the prime minister that they appreciate him coming here for the Chinese New Year celebrations,” said Mazlynoor, according to The Star.

The village folks had made elaborate preparations to play host for the event, where more than 20,000 are expected to be present.

The celebrations at Jalan Chan Ah Choo from 6.30pm to 11pm will see lion and dragon dances, performances by various artistes, fireworks and other cultural and traditional shows.
The event’s highlights will be the tossing of the yee sang by Najib, MCA president Ong Tee Keat and other national and state leaders.

Infighting within MCA continued to dog the party even on Chinese New Year today, with banners attacking its president and deputy president appearing at the party's open house in Kuala Lumpur.
One banner that greeted arrivees to the party's open house targeted deputy president Chua Soi Lek, mocking him as the 'Sex Hero.'“Don't gamble away the pride of the Chinese community. We don't want a sex hero. He has already lost his face. We still want ours", read the banner in reference to a scandal over a sex video that emerged of which Chua was an unwitting star.
Party president Ong Tee Keat, meanwhile, was attacked in another banner for being “unable to keep his promise", a possible a reference to his vow to step down if he was voted out during the MCA emergency general meeting that was held on Oct 10 last year.
Yet another banner read: "One cannot keep his promise, the other one has no shame. Don't turn MCA into something unbearable. When will integrity return to MCA?"The banners, hanging on the overhead bridge and road divider opposite the MCA headquarters on Jalan Ampang, were found by media personnel and party members when they arrived this morning for the open house.
Party workers managed to take them down shortly before the arrival of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin at 10am.
Show of unity
Vice president Liow Tiong Lai - who had broken ranks with Ong after both Ong and Chua decided to bury the hatchet to remain in power - proclaimed his innocence over the banners.
The health minister also criticized the perpetrators for their rudeness on Chinese New Year and violating the spirit of the occasion.
Chua, meanwhile, declined to lend support to any moves to investigate the matter.
"I am a simple man. I don't care (about these things). Let the people judge for themselves."
He also said this was the nature of politics, of which the “sabotage” of people's character was expected.
“"Democracy offers choices to people under the system. But people use a variety of other means to launch personal attacks and acts of sabotage."
During the open house, however, Ong, Chua and Liow seemed unperturbed by the incident, and were models of unity and decorum.
The only noticeable absence this morning was MCA Youth chief Wee Ka Siong.
When queried about this, Liow - who is said to have been Wee's political tag-team partner - said on Wee's behalf that the latter had a Chinese New Year function to attend in Malacca.
Let us start the week with some good Buddhist philosophy...
Lord Buddha was sitting under a banyan tree. One day, a furious Brahman came to him and started abusing him.
The Brahmin thought that Lord Buddha would reciprocate in the same manner, but to his utter surprise, there was not the slightest change in the expression on his face.
Now, the Brahmin became more furious. He hurled more and more abuses at Buddha. However, Lord Buddha was completely unmoved. Actually there was a look of compassion on his face. Ultimately the Brahmin was tired of abusing him.
He asked, "I have been abusing you, but why are you not angry at all ?"
Lord Buddha calmly replied, "My dear brother, I have not accepted a single abuse from you."
"But you heard all of them, didn't you?" The Brahmin argued
half-heartedly.
Buddha said, "I do not need the abuses, so why should I even hear them?"
Now the Brahmin was even more puzzled. He could not understand the calm reply from Lord Buddha.
Looking at his disturbed face, Buddha further explained, "All those abuses remain with you."
"It cannot be possible. I have hurled all of them at you," the Brahmin persisted.
Buddha calmly repeated his reply, "But I have not accepted even a single abuse from you! Dear brother, suppose you give some coins to somebody, and if he does not accept them, with whom will those coins remain?"
The Brahman replied, "If I have given the coins and not needed by someone, then naturally they would remain with me."
With a meaningful smile on his face, Buddha said, "Now you are right. The same has happened with your abuses. You came here and hurled abuses at me, but I have not accepted a single abuse from you. Hence, all those abuses remain with you only. So there is no reason to be angry with you."
The Brahmin remained speechless. He was ashamed of his behavior and begged for Buddha's forgiveness.
Lesson to Learn from This Story:
Inner calmness and peace are keys to a contented life. You know who you are and what you want in life, so don't respond to what person said about you in anger. Control your anger with patience and calmness. That is the biggest strength of a wise man.
Never take some one for granted, hold every person close to your heart because you might wake up one day and realize that you have lost a diamond while you were too busy collecting stones.
Putting up anti -Ong , anti Chua banners during this festive season has done more damage and to their ( Group of 13 ) cause than to Ong and Chua . Btw this effect goes back to them since it was never accepted as in the above philosophy .....they shall reap what they sow ...paticularly the one auspiciously absent .
