Phang: Why is Wee jittery over PKFZ?

Friday, 15 January 2010 14:19

KUALA LUMPUR - MACC panel member Robert Phang has asked Wee Ka Siong why he is offended by statements linking him to the multi-billion ringgit Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) fiasco.

In a statement released today, Phang said the MCA Youth chief "has even threatened to take legal action over statements he had made on the matter.

No accusations made

"I did not accuse him of benefiting from PKFZ. Wee admitted that his former consultancy firm Hijau Sekitar Sdn Bhd was engaged by Wijaya Baru Sdn Bhd to produce a feasibility study of port expansions in Klang."

Phang asked, "Isn't PKFZ part of Port Klang? Isn't PKFZ under the Port Klang Authority?

Phang (right) says he is not accusing Wee of benefiting from the PKFZ project.

"Isn't Wijaya Baru owned by tycoon and Bintulu MP Tiong King Sing who also controls PKFZ's turnkey contractor Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd?"

Phang clarified that what he was saying was "that Wee could be an important and useful witness for the police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)'s probe into the nation's biggest ever project scandal."

"Not only has Wee admitted having business deals with Tiong, he has yet to clarify his business relationship with Tiong," he said.

Accountable to electorate

Phang aslo said that Wee, as an MP and deputy minister, was obliged to observe transparency and clarify doubts that arise in any issue, be it the PKFZ or others.

"You (Wee) are accountable to the electorate.

"The police and MACC cannot be seen doing a lax job in its pursuit to bring to book those who have plundered taxpayers' money via the PKFZ project," said Phang.

He said the authorities must pursue every possible link or lead, not necessary leading to the prosecution of a witness.

"And this includes Wee," said Phang in the statement.

He said that the PKFZ fiasco has affected the government and nation's integrity in the international investment arena.

"The actions taken by the government and the final outcome of the probe will determine whether foreign investors will continue to have confidence in Malaysia as a premier business destination, said Phang.

"The government, therefore, must allow the police or MACC to act against anyone, including those holding high office.

Phang also pointed out that Wee has been saying that he had no basis to comment on issues affecting MCA leaders because he was not a party member.

My comment : I am shocked that Wee can say that just because people like you and others who are non MCA members have no right to criticise or comment on him . I am further shocked that he has not and refrained from saying this to William Cheng the ACCCIM big mouth who speaks with his foot in his mouth and who I believe is also a non MCA member but happens to be Liow's por lam pah .

'Shocked by lack of understanding'

"I am shocked by his lack of understanding in the relationship between a political party like MCA and the citizens who every five years elect their leaders," he said.

"If he doesn't like my views, that is his right. But as a citizen, I have every right to comment and state my stand on issues, especially political, afflicting the nation," said Phang.

He said he need not be a member of any political party to cast his vote in a general election.

"Wee is living off taxpayers' money and therefore he must look after the interest of taxpayers.

"My humble role as a senior citizen and as a member of the MACC advisory panel makes it even more important for me to ensure the MACC is a credible watchdog for the voters," said Phang, who is also Social Care Foundation chairman.

Phang asked "Wee to display more leadership quality and transparency on issues of public interest instead of showing contempt and disrespect to the elders who may not share his views."

Wee this is not England !

In case you are not aware of English laws , any would be burglars or thieves in England and who gets injured while attempting or in the act of committing buglary can sue the owner of the house who may or may not be around at the time of the burglary .

  1. Well said. Wee is a despicable, corrupt, sleazy poltician. He is not qualified to be deputy minister. OTK must remove him.
