Liow sceptical of Chua’s dialogue invitation

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 — MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai (picture) wants to see more action — rather than just talk — from the party’s deputy president.

He was referring to Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek’s statement yesterday that he was ready to meet with president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat and Liow to resolve the party’s crisis.

Dr Chua added that the dialogue was important so MCA can then focus on the upcoming general election.

Liow said that they had already agreed on a fresh election but was disappointed with the lack of implementation from Dr Chua and Ong.

“Most importantly is the sincerity of what we have discussed.

“That is why we came to an agreement to have fresh elections. We must do it.

“That is why I said if we want to continue with a discussion there must be sincerity in it and we must implement what we have discussed,” Liow said.

Dr Chua recently announced that fresh polls will not held this month as planned because there were insufficient numbers of elected members from the party’s Central Committee (CC) who have submitted their resignations.

Under the party constitution, a fresh poll must be held within 30 days if 21 of the 31 elected CC members resign.

Only 13 CC members have submitted their resignation letters.

However, Dr Chua has hinted that the party may still hold fresh elections in March.

Liow said that it was now up to Dr Chua and Ong to have the polls as soon as possible.

“I have done my part and now they have to come up with something concrete...I think it is up to them to do it,” said Liow.
