PETALING JAYA: The MCA special task force bureau wants Sri Gading MP Datuk Mohamad Aziz to apologise to Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat for raising “baseless innuendoes” over the KTM Bhd train purchase.

Its chairman Simon Lim said in a statement here yesterday that Mohamad should be taken to task for his unnecessary outburst in Parliament.

“It is totally irresponsible for him to raise such slanderous claims when he does not have an inkling on the background of the diesel multiple units’ (DMUs) purchase.

“Any right-minded person would do a background investigation on the issue before spewing such verbal toxins.

“If the Sri Gading MP is a man of honour, he should issue an unequivocal apology to the MCA president immediately for whatever he was implying at and not easily hide behind parliamentary immunity,” he said, questioning if Mohamad had a “hidden motive” for creating such innuendoes.

The MP had in his debate inquired if there was “something fishy” about the purchase.

“His rhetoric did not cease when Mohamad Aziz called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the minister, inaccurately alluding to Ong of misappropriation, and if necessary, to charge him in court, and erroneously implying that the minister had squandered money on the purchase of old trains,” said Lim.

He pointed out that Ong had issued an explanation on the purchase to the media while the ministry had also provided a point-by-point statement on the eight issues regarding the purchase.

He said it was unfortunate when MPs misused their parliamentary immunity to launch tirades and baseless allegations against their fellow MPs.

MCA NGO liaison bureau chief Datuk Ti Lian Ker, in slamming Mohamad, said the manner which ministries were taken to task over “non-issues” was disappointing the public.

“It’s worse if MPs among the backbenchers are seen to be barking up the wrong tree or perceived to be abusing their parliamentary privileges to discredit targeted ministries or ministers,” he said.

Ti also lamented that lately, there were Barisan Nasional backbenchers who “behaved worse then irresponsible Opposition members” in distorting or misrepresenting to the public alleged abuses.

“Their actions have led the public to believe there is a dire need to upgrade the quality of our elected representatives,” he said, adding that this culture which used to be prevalent among Opposition MPs was now common among backbenchers, giving the perception that they lacked credibility, ability and integrity.

He said the backbenchers acted as if they were “going for a head-hunting spree”.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 — After recently asking Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat to resign for not performing, Umno’s Sri Gading MP Datuk Mohamad Aziz is now demanding the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigate the minister’s role in the double-tracking project.

Mohamad (picture) claimed that the railway board did not authorise the purchase of “out of commission” diesel trains for the project but Ong had used his “minister’s power” to approve the purchase.

“I want the minister to answer. He hardly shows up. Is he busy with his personal work or busy with his responsibilities?

“The deputy minister said there was not enough funds, but why did the ministry buy old trains? You don’t have the money but you bought worn out trains at a more expensive price then the other countries?” he asked.

Mohamad added that the MACC should “drag” Ong to court if he was guilty of corruption.

“MACC said they will investigate every member of parliament but investigate this minister first,” he said.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had recently announced that it was planning to investigate the RM6 billion double-tracking project, after recent revelations that the project had been managed poorly, resulting in losses amounting to more than RM1 billion so far.

According to this year’s audit report, the government may have to bear part of the RM1.14 billion loss in the 179km double-tracking rail contract between Rawang and Ipoh as the project was poorly managed.

Mohamad was not the only Barisan Nasional (BN) backbencher unhappy with Ong.

During the winding up of the budget debate today by Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Robert Lau, Arau MP Datuk Ismail Kasim also questioned the purchase of the diesel trains because it did not follow the standards and specifications of the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) board.

Ismail pointed that the trains were not approved by the board and the managing director was terminated when the agreement was signed.

“What is the rationale of buying at a price of RM30 million when Costa Rica and Argentina had purchased diesel trains that are 20 years old at a price of RM10 million? Why spend at a time when the government is trying to save?” Ismail asked.

Tenggara MP Datuk Halimah Mohd Sadique questioned why the minister purchased the nearly ”out of commission” trains when KTMB was already using electric trains.

“What is its life span? Is the maintenance cost low? Can the government guarantee that the cost of maintenance is in accordance with the trains age?” Halimah asked.

Halimah also asked if the existing railway tracks had to be modified to accommodate the diesel engines.

The Rawang to Ipoh (southern) double-tracking and electrification project was completed in 2008 while the Ipoh to Padang Besar portion was proposed in 2002 as a continuation of the existing tracks.

Transport Ministry Clarifies Purchase of Trains

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 – The Transport Ministry today clarified a media report about the purchase of DMU (diesel multiple unit) commuter trains, which was raised in Parliament yesterday.

In a statement issued here, the ministry said what was raised by the parliamentary members on the matter was not accurate.

The ministry stated that the actual price of the government’s acquisition of the used DMU trains was EURO1.492 million (about RM7,571,200) per set, which consisted of two passenger coaches, while Costa Rica spent EURO2.0 million (about RM10,149,060) per set for a similar used-DMU units.The price of RM33.5 million (about EURO6.6 million) is for the purchase of four sets of used-DMU trains, it said.

The newspaper report stated that the government had purchased the used-DMU commuter trains for RM30 million compared with RM10 million spent by Costa Rica and Argentina.

The ministry also said the purchase of the used-DMUs was to overcome the shortage of trains for the commuter service in the Klang valley.

Yesterday, at the Dewan Rakyat sitting, the Transport Ministry became the focus of the debate when a number of lawmakers urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate it over the purchase of the DMU commuter trains at RM30 million which they regard as odd. – Bernama

BN MP urges Tee Keat, Tsu Koon to quit as ministers

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 — A government backbencher today called on MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat to withdraw from his post since he has lost the confidence of his own party and that his image has been tarnished.

Sri Gading member of parliament Datuk Mohamad Aziz also urged Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Senator Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, to do the same as he is deemed to be not performing well as a minister.

Mohamad said as a Cabinet frontliner, a minister should not lose the confidence of his party members, more so not have his honour and image tarnished in the eyes of the public.

“If they have lost their own party members’ confidence, then they should no longer remain in the Cabinet.

“If one have any morals and self-respect, one should step down. Don’t create problems for the prime minister. Another person in the MCA can replace him. Why does he think he’s the only clever one?” Mohamad said when debating on the Supply Bill 2010 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He said the minister involved should withdraw, in line with the government’s slogan of “People First, Performance Now”.

“I am just saying what most people feel. If the people no longer want you, then just leave...get out.” Mohamad also questioned the government’s action of appointing Koh as minister in the Prime Minister’s Department overseeing the Key Performance Index (KPI) as he regarded Koh as not having performed well himself.

“How can you take care of KPI when you yourself didn’t show good KPI? Your subordinates will have no confidence in you. So, how can you be effective as the minister in charge?

“I sympathise with my friend from Batu Kawan (former MP Huan Cheng Guan), who was a good MP but his seat was taken by the (Gerakan) president (Koh) who contested (in the last general election), but he lost the whole state. And still (he) wants to take care of KPI)?”

Mohamad also accused Koh of being an “apple polisher” for turning up in parliament only when the prime minister was around, besides being a senator through the “back door”. Rest of article here .

KUALA LUMPUR: There is something sinister behind the recent call by a backbencher for both Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon to resign, said a Gerakan state chairman.

Penang Gerakan chief Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan said if the party delegates were to put “two and two” together, they would know who was involved.

“The MP had not only asked our president to resign, but he also urged Ong, who as Transport Minister overseeing Port Klang, to step down.

“Somebody is trying to force him out of the Cabinet based on an agenda.

“Koh had on Sept 6 openly called for the setting up of a Royal Commission to investigate the Port Klang Free Zone issue,” Dr Teng who is also vice-president said. Read more here .

He is the Deputy of the BBC ( not British Broadcasting Corporation , they do not want rascals like him ), BBC stands for the BN Backbenchers Club in other words he is Tiong's Deputy . Remember Tiong , the famous one from PKFZ ? You can expect him to talk like Saddam Hussien , but he's nowhere near him, but their fate will be similar , so is their moustache . So when Tiong's mouth is zipped in Parliament he will have to act and talk like Tiong's mouth piece . After all he is paid to do the work , the BN ATM Machine doesn't pay you to keep quiet either . .
