Mahathir is wrong - Pak Lah saved us

Mahathir has totally missed it (when he blamed Abdullah Badawi for BN's problems).

On the contrary, it was Abdullah Badawi who freed the rakyat from the shackles of modern colonialism. Looking back now, history has proven Abdullah to be the greatest reformer in the Malaysian psyche. Look back at the time prior to 2008. Recall our fears, deception and hesitation to say anything against the government. It was the Mahathir era which showed us the cruel and harsh side of government. Malaysians prior to 2008 were truly afraid. We were a fearful bunch. We did not understand our own constitution and the possibility of a two-government system. We were shackled under the constant fear of racial unrest. Our colonial masters told us that if we were to speak anything about race, religion or special privilege it was considered sedition and the ISA was swiftly used upon us without hesitation. The reminder of May 13 was always on the lips of our colonial masters. While we cowered in fear those aligned to the ruling elite raped and squandered government coffers. GLC's were abused and poorly run, to enrich the cronies. It will be good for us never to forget this dark time in Malaysian history. Abdullah opened the space for discourse. There was an exchanging of ideas and thought. Many began to see that Malaysia belonged to all of us and that we needed to reclaim this land from our oppressors, those who ruled the executive, the Parliament, the judiciary, the police and virtually every branch of government. Abdullah was also compassionate and dared to do what was right. He allowed the court of justice to free Anwar Ibrahim. He did not interfere with the work of the judiciary. Abdullah curbed spending and reduced the deficit. They were hard, lean years and perhaps he paid for that, but at least the deficit was reduced. Now Najib has taken over the reins; it appears we are going back to the days of Mahathirism when political opposition is intimidated and public discourse narrowed. There is once again the outstretched arm of the executive intervening in the police and the judiciary. This week we saw the re-emergence of ego projects that seek form over substance. The days when our country was shallow and sought after the tallest, biggest, fastest, longest are back. We now know that this is an exercise in futility. What we need are state of the art public schools. Well equipped and functioning, like the private schools we have now in Malaysia. Why can't it be done? Instead of spending on a 100-storey building, invest the money in our children's future. We only need to look south of our border and look at the public schools and their facilities there: state of the art, well equipped labs, IT and gym facilities. Every school in Malaysia could be like this if the RM6 billion were to be channelled towards this effort. So Mahathir, you are wrong, outdated and your whip over Malaysia has waned. We are no longer afraid of our own shadow. We are no longer shackled by the fear of racial tension. In fact we are healing our wounds of racial suspicion cast upon us by decades of deception and threat. The spell has been cast away. We now see Malaysia as it truly is and it is not Najib's 1Malaysia, but more perhaps our founding father's Malaysia, of those like Onn bin Jaafar and Tunku Abdul Rahman.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 — Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is alleged to have allowed Malaysia to sign away up to RM320 billion in potential oil earnings, in return for Brunei dropping its claim over Limbang in Sarawak.

Both former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the DAP’s Lim Kit Siang demanded an explanation today from the country’s previous PM, after news reports emerged last week suggesting Malaysia had signed away its oil rights.

Murphy Oil, which had entered a production-sharing contract with national oil company, Petronas, for Block L and Block M offshore of Limbang, announced last week that it was ceasing operations because “it was no longer part of Malaysia.”

“It would seem that the loss of a huge oil producing area that had apparently belonged to Malaysia is okay,” said Dr Mahathir today in a posting on his blog.

Separately, Lim said Abdullah should explain whether he had indeed signed off US$100 billion (RM320 billion) worth of oil rights to resolve Brunei’s claims to Limbang a month before he stepped down as prime minister in March last year and if so, why.

Pak Lah denies giving away oil rights

KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 — Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi denied today that he signed away oil rights to Brunei after a scathing attack from his predecessor Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The former prime minister issued a statement today denying Dr Mahathir’s accusation that he had given up RM320 billion in potential oil earnings in return for Brunei dropping its claim over Limbang in Sarawak.

Dr Mahathir had claimed Abdullah had given away Malaysia’s claim to oil offshore of Limbang following a trip to Bandar Seri Begawan in the waning days of his administration last year.

Abdullah said today that the areas known as Block L and Block M would be jointly developed by the two countries for a period of 40 years.

“The financial and operational modalities for giving effect to this arrangement will be further discussed by the two sides. This means that in so far as the oil and gas resources are concerned, the agreement is not a loss for Malaysia,” said Abdullah in his statement.

The country’s fifth prime minister clarified that his visit to Brunei which was made three weeks before his departure was aimed at solving a long standing border dispute “without any disadvantage for Malaysia.”

The visit resulted in an agreement between the two countries to establish a permanent land and sea boundary.

“This agreement serves to settle certain overlapping claims which existed in the past which included the area of the concession blocks known before as Block L and Block M. Sovereign rights to the resources in this area now belongs to Brunei.

“However, for this area the agreement includes a commercial arrangement under which Malaysia will be allowed to participate, on a commercial basis, to jointly develop the oil and gas resources in this area for a period of 40 years,” said Abdullah.

He added that he signed the agreement to solve a border dispute with Brunei with prior approval from the Cabinet.

“In my capacity as the Prime Minister of Malaysia, I signed the Exchange of Letters with the Sultan of Brunei after the Malaysian Cabinet approved the deal on 11 February 2009,” said Abdullah.

Earlier today both former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the DAP’s Lim Kit Siang demanded an explanation from Abdullah after news reports emerged last week suggesting Malaysia had signed away its oil rights.

Sleepy Head
You sure you know whats going on in BTN ??

Pak Lah and his ridiculous defence of the BTN — The Malaysian Insider

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 11— Tun Abdullah Badawi was disappointing in office and just as disappointing out of office. His five years was punctuated by a fear of upsetting Umno even when he knew the party was on a path of damnation.

And even now he is scared of upsetting the party, even though he knows the Biro Tata Negara veered off course a long time ago.

His ministers had told him that the BTN was playing a divisive role but he did not do anything.

So his comments today should be taken for what they are: comments of a former senior BTN official.

He remains so obsessed with trying to avoid upsetting anyone that he has chosen to side with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, by defending the man who hounded him out of office.

The evidence of BTN’s overt racism has been overwhelming.

Course participants — many of them Malay — have come out to offer testimonies of the racist indoctrination that is the BTN.

The Chinese and other non-Malay communities continue to be labelled as “pendatang” or immigrants during such courses which are compulsory for new civil servants and public university undergraduates.

Malays participants are constantly reminded that this country is a “Malay” land which they must strive to defend against the threat posed by their fellow countrymen, the non-Malays.

But Abdullah chose to side with the very same hawks in his party who pressured him to leave office.

He also said today that the BTN courses remain relevant because they promoted the concept of 1Malaysia to the public.

This is a preposterous statement if ever there was one.

Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s 1Malaysia concept, while vague, is ostensibly about promoting racial unity and better sense of belonging to the country among all communities.

To suggest that BTN courses will help promote 1Malaysia is something that boggles the mind.

Abdullah was a former director of BTN, and he claims that it was not racist during his time. But he was told while he was PM that it had become a racist institution.

Now, the current PM, Najib, has been told the same thing, and has directed the programme to be overhauled.

If Abdullah cannot help Najib to reform the BTN, he should perhaps consider staying silent.

Ku Li confirms BTN is racist .

Ku li: ‘I was battered by BTN’

By Adib Zalkapli

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 – One of Umno’s most respected leaders,Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, has come out to back the closure of the Biro Tata Negara (BTN), saying he was a victim of its controversial courses when he led an opposition front.

“Yes I have heard, I have been battered about in seminars, discussions in BTN,” the Gua Musang MP said when asked if he had been a victim of BTN.

“They said a lot of things,” he replied when asked to elaborate on the nature of the attacks against him.

The Kelantanese prince was also a victim of a hate campaign during Election 1990, when a photograph of him wearing an East Malaysian headgear was widely distributed just days before polls.

The photograph of Razaleigh in the headgear, which bore a motif similar to a crucifix, is credited with turning away significant numbers of Muslim votes from Semangat 46, which he led.

Pak Lah has NO spine , one who has NO pride , NO principles ! !

Imagine to have come out to support those very people who whacked him left and right and demanding he step down as PM . This is the type of PM who gets pushed everywhere by the UMNO warlords or little Napoleans in UMNO .

This is the PM who said " Work with me , not for Me " The warloads and little Napoleans perhaps has been telling him You work for US .
