'Dictator' Chua – a general without soldiers

By FMT Staff

BATU PAHAT: Serious trouble is brewing down south with allegations of gangsterism and incompetency against PKR state chairman Chua Jui Meng.

In open defiance, 18 division leaders met with reporters here and spewed their angst over Chua's “dictatorial” and “destructive” rule.

"He is a dictator and has destroyed Johor PKR and Pakatan Rakyat," said Saiman Marjuki, spokesman for the group.

Brandishing banners bearing words chastising Chua's leadership style and judgment, the group, which represented 18 of the 26 divisions in the state, said they were fed up with the former health minister's arrogance and arbitrary selection of candidates for state posts.

Saiman said that two weeks ago Chua held a state PKR meeting and announced appointments to state posts without first discussing it with the divisional leaders.

“Those who know Chua got posts even without the divisional leaders meeting to discuss the appointments.

"He thinks he is right but in fact he is a general without soldiers," said Saiman, adding that gangsterism was also now rearing its ugly head in the party .

"I myself have received two threatening SMSes asking me to leave the party. For my own safety, I have reported these SMSes to the police," added Saiman.

'MCA mentality'

On the presidential polls, Saiman said Chua had further shown his “MCA mentality” when he asked the members to vote for Azmin Ali (for the deputy presidency).

“During the PKR elections, Chua called for a meeting and asked us to support Azmin. This is not right.

"As chairman he should not be taking sides in this tussle," said Saiman who also took offence to Chua's recent statement in the media equating PKR politics to that of MCA and BN.

"Recently, Chua issued a statement saying that the situation in PKR was the same as in MCA and Umno.

"He should not have said it. He should not have touched on MCA because it only shows that he has himself brought into PKR, the MCA and BN culture as if we don't have our own leadership styles," said Saiman, who is PKR Sembrong divisional chief.

Johor is the Barisan Nasional fortress that the Pakatan Rakyat coalition is aiming to bring down in the 13th general election.

In wrong company , heellooo Datuk , time for you to either call it a day or follow Zaid's footsteps .PKR is NOT the party for you , they are the same as DAP, ruled by the Father and Son . Even Karpal as Chairman has limited voice . Everything is dictated by Party Advicers .

Big Big Mistake you have made . I am aware that you know who is posting this message .

Chua Jui Meng Acting Like A Dictator'

E-mail Print PDF

b

Parti Keadilan Rakyat members in Johor are dissatisfied with the move by their head Datuk Chua Jui Meng in appointing members to the state leadership council without any discussions.

PKR Seri Gading head Mohd Bakri Said said that Chua claimed he had consulted the other party members but this was not true.

"As the state chief, Chua should be honest and transparent. He does not need to lie to those present at the meeting.

"What is even more strange is that when the announcement of the changes was made, the secretary who was appointed were not present and the minutes of the meeting was not taken.

"For us, that was not a formal meeting but just a get-together which was not conducted professionally."

Chua was said to have reshuffled several positions in the council, including that of his deputy chief, two vice chiefs, secretary and treasurer, without any discussions or approvals from representatives of the branches as well as those already appointed to the posts.

Bakri, who has been the Seri Gading PKR head since 1999, said he joined PKR because he thought it could bring about changes but instead, the opposite happened.

He said all the previous meetings and decisions were done correctly and the views of the branch heads were taken into account, and the individuals to be appointed are consulted to see if they are willing to shoulder the responsibility.

"Chua's attitude is like a dictator and it does not reflect the party's struggles.

"When we disagreed with the decision, we sent a representative to discuss the matter but he was adamant and said that the appointments were his prerogative."

Besides the appointments, Bakri said Chua's speech at the meeting also touched on matters that were racially sensitive.

He said following the speech, a fracas almost erupted if not for the intervention of security guards, who were hired for the first time in such a meeting.

Bakri demanded that Chua explain his actions, failing which, he would disband the Seri Gading PKR branch.

He had also lodged a police report on the matter and hope that it would get the attention of the central PKR leadership.

Chua sabotaged by his own party people?

Jimmy 'Look closer to home' the one bearing the same surname as yours and sounds like heavenly snake .

By FMT Staff

KUALA LUMPUR: Johor PKR chief Chua Jui Meng, who has come under attack from the Sultan of Johor for allegedly dragging the royal household into politics, could have been fixed up by his party members on the instructions of a certain national level party leader, sources claimed today.

They claimed that the banners which used the sultan's name and mentioned Chua as the next Johor menteri besar could have been put up by “certain elements within PKR with the intention of sabotaging Chua”.

“The putting up of these banners could not be the work of Umno as believed by Chua. They could have been put up by his own party people so that his chances of doing well as the state chief will be affected.

It could also be the result of one particular national leader not wanting Chua to perform well in the party polls in November,” said several sources close to the party.

They said that Chua's appointment as the Johor chief last month faced severe objections from that particular national leader.

“This leader is afraid that Chua will prove to be a capable leader and would be a rival for leadership positions in the party,” they said.

The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim, issued a stern reminder earlier this week to politicians not to use his name in any political campaign.

The ruler had pointed out that a politician in Batu Pahat had tried to cause problems among the people by using his face in a banner.

Yesterday, Chua admitted that the said banners had his face along with the sultan's and had portrayed him as the next state MB. However, he accused Umno of being the culprit for putting up the banners.

“I have nothing to do with the banner as I believe it was placed to incite the Malays against me,” he told FMT yesterday.

“It is done to incite the Malays and the palace against us. Only Umno is capable of doing such a thing,” he added.

However, Johor Menteri Besar and state Umno chief Abdul Ghani Othman denied that Umno had put up the banners.

“We have never practised such politics. What we know is that Pakatan (Rakyat) held a meeting at that time and the banner was put up," he said.

'Look closer to home'

The sources told FMT today that Chua was mistaken in believing that Umno could have put up the banners.

“He should look closer to home. The event was a PKR event and all related banners were put up by the PKR people.

“Someone could have just taken this opportunity against Chua by putting up these offending banners to check his rising popularity in Johor and in the party.

“Chua need not look far to identify the culprit. It is the handiwork of an ambitious national level leader who is close to Anwar Ibrahim,” they said.

They also pointed out that the same leader was alleged to be involved in sabotaging other leaders in the party.

“It is a known fact that this leader would try to discredit whoever he thinks will jeopardise his chance of reaching the top,” they said.

Chua's inner circle, including two prominent businessmen who help fund the party, rejected the idea of an internal sabotage and firmly believed, just as Chua does, that the banners were the handiwork of Umno.

The national level party leader could not be contacted for comment.

Meanwhile, police have taken statements from 39 individuals, including politicians, to assist in the investigation on the use of the sultan's photograph. They are investigating the matter under the Sedition Act.

Jui Meng: Umno controls the minds of the Malays

Jimmy Chua , you are needed here in Penang . We are fed up with that ' small boy ' Guan Eng who only knows how to play with his marbles . Please come here and contest a state seat . You have the finest qualities of a Statesman unlike that Dennis the Menace . This blog will give you 101 percent support .

By Fazy Sahir

FMT EXCLUSIVE PETALING JAYA: Umno, being the largest political party in the country which has ruled over the last 50 years, has poisoned the minds of the Malays, feeding them lies that their position is under threat from the non-Malays, former health minister and MCA vice-president Chua Jui Meng said.

"All these years Umno has brought about this propaganda that the Malays were under threat. They try to control the hearts and minds of the Malays, telling them that the advancement of other races would make them poor. This propaganda to poison the minds of the Malays has resulted in the Malays not being able to see the true picture.

"The problem is not the other races but Umno itself. This message is important for all Malays in Malaysia. They must be aware of the truth. We have to break their mindset,” he said in an exclusive interview with FMT recently.

He was quick to add that the Malays in urban areas were realising the truth of Umno's political game plan. However, he said, the Malays in the outskirts, such as in his home state of Johor, still had the orthodox mentality that Umno was Malay and Malay is Umno.

“This kind of propaganda poisons the minds of the Malays," said the 67-year-old lawyer-turned- politician.

He added that access to the new media as well as a paradign shift in the mindset of the urban Malays would enable them to break away from the Umno mentality.

He stressed that Pakatan Rakyat should aspire to bring about the change in the mindset of rural Malays in order to see a change in the country.

"I have told (Opposition leader) Anwar (Ibrahim) that I am a Chinese leader in Pakatan wanting to help poor Malays. My heart goes out to them... we need to help these Malays.

“In Johor, there is a huge information gap. We have to narrow this gap. After 50 years in power, Umno is still spreading lies to the people through the mainstream media which is under Umno control,” he said.

Chua, however, said that Pakatan should not be only concentrating on uplifting the Malay community's economic status.

"We tend to forget other races. Like the Indians, they too have problems. Even when they are citizens of this country, their rights are denied. This is the way of Umno," said Chua, who was in MCA for 35 years before deciding to join PKR late last year.

Plans for Johor

Asked on his plans for Johor as the new state PKR chief, he said he was not a novice in politics and knows the ways of the BN from a political perspective, which uses the mainstream media to win votes.

He said since joining the opposition front, he had become more open to the alternative media.

He said on the part of the Chinese, the community had repented and now had an open mindset knowing that they could live in this country without being dependent on Umno.

"The Chinese community works hard and are smart. Their priority is education... although they only receive minimal assistance from Umno, they don't give up. When they are educated, they can be critical and analytical in the way they think," said the veteran politician.

He also revealed that there was no racial issue in Malaysia, although Umno insists on racialising each and every issue that crops up.

"The Malays are blinded by Umno. Look at the education system. It does not allow our students to be independent and become critical of things. We still have laws to control university students... all these are meant to control the mindset of the Malays.

He also slammed Umno for using Islam to further their political agenda despite indulging in immoral activities like corruption.

"Umno talks about religion. Do they really know what they are talking about? If they know what they are talking about, then why are they still doing wrong? If they hold on to the Quran, then they should also know that corruption takes them to hell... but they still go ahead and do it.

“This message should be sent to the Malays in rural areas: the rich in the country are not the Chinese but those in Umno and their cronies.”

Datuk-ship revocation: Public perception matters

Why is the Datuk Pornstar's Datukship not revoked ?

Datuk Seri award somemore lah !, wa very high lah , must be very famous star like that Bollywood actor , what's his name ? Shah Ruk Khan ? given ftom the Malacca Govt !

Jun 12, 10 7:24am

Chua Jui Meng, hold your head up high. You may have lost the datukship from one sultan, but you have gained the respect of the whole nation.'

Johor sultan's decision 'nothing to do with politics'

Kgen: If Chua Jui Meng has done something as bad as that politician-turned-porn actor, then no reason need to be given as what happened is public knowledge. This is not the case for CJM (Chua Jui Meng) who has been completely honourable in the public eye.

The sultan is damaging his own reputation by victimising an honourable man for the sake of politics. Maybe one day, the rakyat will wake up and realise it's better to be a republic if we can't have rulers who are wise, fair and above politics.

Mockingbird: Mr Chua Jui Meng, hold your head up high. You did an honourable act by leaving the pack of thieves and now stand for what you believe is morally and politically right. What you did took a lot of courage as we all know bad habits die hard. You may have lost the datukship from one sultan, but you have gained the respect of the whole nation.

Victor Johan: Datuk CJM, when the previous sultan bestowed the awards on you, he gave reasons or the purpose of the awards. Now that the son, who is the current sultan, wants to remove the same awards from you, he is much obliged to provide the rakyat and you the motive or grounds.

WandererAUS: Although it's maybe the prerogative of the sultan whether to give the reason for asking the titles back, since he lives on the generosity of taxpayers' money, he owes the public an explanation for his action.

Watchman: With all due respect, sultan, if I am not mistaken, during a recent interview after you took over the reign from your late father, you mentioned that you want to be a new age ruler - one who dare to speak out and act for the benefit of the Johor people. Obviously what you are doing now totally contradicts your views/stand.

Dood: "He (Johor Royal Council secretary Abdul Rahim Ramli )said those who had awards withdrawn should ask themselves whether they had done 'something honourable' or not."

What about that pornstar whose dick was shown to everyone in his famous DVD ? Why is his Datukship from the Johore palace not withdrawn from him ? Datuk Pornstar ? hahaha

With this reasoning, all titles issued to Umno/BN/Perkasa politicians would have to be withdrawn on principle. And sure, the palace may be within its rights to keep silent on the reason for the revocation of the titles, but the sultan should realise that public perception matters. And the people do not believe that there was no political pressure involved.

Not Confused: Loyalty and respect are earned, and cannot be demanded. It seems there is very little respect for the royal families in Malaysia - is it any wonder given their arrogance?
Just call me Encik, thank you very much

Whilst we cannot ever hope to understand why Chua Jui Meng was stripped of his Johor titles, one lesson has emerged from Chua's experience. It is better not to accept any titles and honorifics except the ones that cannot be taken away. ( I like you I give you sweets , I don't like you I take it away ) hahaha

Encik sounds very nice to my ears and anyone born in Malaysia can avail themselves to the title.

If one has worked very hard for a medical degree, one can call oneself 'Doctor'. As medical doctors will tell you, once they have completed their post-graduate studies and become specialists, they revert to 'Mr'. The only "real" doctors around are those with a PhD, (Doctor of Philosophy). Once earned, such titles are impossible to lose. If indeed one loses them, the conferring body will usually have a responsibility to explain why, thus giving one the opportunity to defend one's case.

Interestingly, we are a nation that is so "hard-up" for titles that those in private universities "confer" honorary doctorates on their own vice-chancellors. Honorary doctorates cannot be used as freely as real doctorates. But nowadays, there are so many universities and so many doctorates that the degree and title is fast becoming meaningless. One therefore has to affix the conferring body (i.e. PhD Oxon (for Oxford) or PhD Cantab (for Cambridge) etc).

Blame it on the British

Perhaps, like everything else, we should blame the British for our fixation with titles, medals and abbreviations. If we had been ruled by the French, we might not have such a system in place. We might not even have monarchs, for that matter, especially after France became a republic in the late 18th century.

But the British who colonised Malaya were class-ridden and feudal-minded. There was a colour bar and 'whites-only' clubs.

Even as late as the 1950s, the Sultan of Selangor was not allowed into the Lake Club. It required the iron will of General Templar, then the High Commissioner to Malaya, to “convince” the members to allow the Sultan to go through its hallowed doors.

In 1867, after the bloody Penang Riots involving fighting between rival Sino-Malay groups, which also demonstrated the possibility of Sino-Malay cooperation, the British went into overdrive to separate the races. It was better for the Malays and Chinese and Indians not to mix "too much". It was not long after the incident that an Inspectorate of Police was established (1872), indirect rule through headmen ended in the Straits Settlements and secret societies that operated quite openly were regulated and later disbanded (1885).

But the most effective way to getting the unruly Chinese and the rebellious Malays into the ambit of the race-based and hierarchical colonial system was to set up a corresponding system of "merit" made up of medals and titles. Of course, this included the Malay rulers themselves and they were obliged to be included into the pecking order, with Queen Victoria at the top. In fact, it was the Jewish British Prime Minister Disraeli who cobbled together the title 'Queen-Empress of India' for Queen Victoria.

'Rake's progress of upward mobility'

To get onto to the social hierarchy, one must first earn the title Justice of Peace (JP). In Penang, the first Malay to be so honoured was Sheikh Omar Basheer, an influential religious figure who helped draw the Malays out of the secret societies. He was truly a peace-maker and community leader.

Among the Chinese, the first JPs included wealthy revenue-farmers like Koh Seang Tat, Foo Tye Sin and Cheah Chen Eok.

It would appear that the tradition of honouring business tycoons began a very long time ago. In those days, however, business tycoons were also civic-society leaders, philanthropists and patrons of schools. The income disparity was also much wider and society was more “respectful” of their social betters.

As the years passed and colonial society grew more complex, the honour system also expanded with new rungs added onto the ladder. JP was suddenly the first step in a very long 'rake's progress' of upward mobility.

There was the Order of the British Empire (OBE), given for meritorious service to the British Empire, usually after the person has donated money to some imperial cause.

Then, there was the Commander of the British Empire (CBE), given out more sparingly to those who have served on the various legislative councils representing the interests of one's race.

Next came the stratosphere, for none of the previous titles and medals actually came with an honorific. The only "distinction" they gave was the right to place the abbreviation behind one's name (i.e. Koh Seang Tat, JP OBE).

But getting onto the next echelon meant something else. The abbreviations KBE and KCBE stood for Knight of the British Empire and Knight Commander of the British Empire respectively. One can now put the title 'Sir' before one's name. By today's standards, the first level 'Sir' is level with 'Tan Sri', whilst the upper-level 'Sir' was equal to our 'Tun'.

However, for the Malay rulers and the various colonial governors and high commissioners, the titles and medals became even more elaborate. KCMG which translates into Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael & St George, has also been taken to mean “Kindly Call Me God”. Then there was GCMG Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael & St George, GCMG being said mean “God Calls Me God”.

The first Chinese to have been made a Knight was Sir Ong Siang Song of Singapore. A staunch Christian and a Queen's Scholar, he rendered great service to the cause of the Chinese in Singapore.

Naked without titles

In Malaya, there were several common people who were made Knights. In Penang, there was Sir Kamil Ariff, a founder-member of the Penang Malay Association (the precursor to Penang Umno) and Sir Hussein Abdulcader, a lawyer.

In Johor, there was Sir Onn Jaafar, the founder-president of Umno, whereas Melaka had Sir Cheng Lock Tan, the founder-president of the MCA. Selangor had millionaire and MCA stalwart Sir HS Lee.

It is human nature to want to be distinguished. Some prefer to be pious or at least outwardly pious to win a seat by God's side. Others prefer to accumulate wealth so that they can be “respected” by those who are not as rich. Some prefer the politician's soap-box, so they can champion a cause, which very often is bound-up with self-interest.

There are those who feel naked without some titles and abbreviations after their name, as though medals and titles 'maketh the man'.

But there is a draw-back to being so distinguished - one can always find oneself on the wrong side in a flick of the eye, like all those OBEs, CBEs and JPs experienced when the Japanese Imperial Army marched into Malaya and expelled the British. They were among the first to be hauled up, slapped in public, and kennelled in enemy camps. Of course, most survived, but never again were they regarded by their fellow men as social “betters”.

For those aspiring for 'Datukships', they should take a leaf from history and Chua Jui Meng's experience: It is much better to be just an 'Encik', at least they can't take that away from you.

Stripping Chua's titles: 'Umno not behind it'

Oh so UMNO is not behind it , then who ? The seven month hungry ghosts ? , the hantus ? the pontianaks ? Bull , what a BIG BULL ? maybe he has a point , so I should not name the hantu tet tet behind this ! Must be the you know who from the Male Common Anatomy party whose you know where , were shown to everyone in the DVD .

Awards are recommended by UMNO to the Sultan , fyi ....and it is not surprising since the lists submited by Tee Keat for the recent Agong's birthday awards was completely change by that tainted , vicious pornstar thru UMNO's BN Secretary General .

Incidentally I was told by a little bird that Tee Ann Chuan , one of the membersa of the snoop squad has been very active lately criss crossing the country meeting old friends ..... that kind of interesting since he might have a Part 2 sequel of the famous episode in DVD .

By Rahmah Ghazali

PETALING JAYA: Umno Johor has today denied any involvement in the palace decision to strip PKR leader Chua Jui Meng of his two “datuk-ship” titles, despite being accused by its political rival.

"Umno or Barisan Nasional has nothing to do with this because the decision was based solely on the prerogative of the palace," Umno Bukit Naning assemblyman Abdullah Md Ali told FMT.

Yesterday, Chua, a former health minister and ex-MCA strongman, claimed that Umno-BN led by Menteri Besar Othman Ghani had a hand in influencing the current Sultan of Johor to strip his “datuk-ship” awards conferred on him by the late Sultan.

Both awards carried the titles “datuk seri” and “datuk”.

His fellow PKR colleagues deputy president Syed Husin Ali and secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution yesterday had also pointed the finger at Umno, blaming the party for being behind the decision.

'Why are they over-reacting?'

Abdullah, who is also the former Bakri division head, however, stressed that Umno has never interfered in any decision-making by the palace.

Jui Meng a victim of Johor power play by Soi Lek, Umno top guns

Speculation is rife that MCA president Chua Soi Lek and his colleagues in Johor Umno are behind the Sultan’s decision to take back the two datukships from Chinese leader Chua Jui Meng.

The reason: to publicly discredit Jui Meng and prevent Johor from falling to the Pakatan Rakyat in the next general election.

“It is another diabolical BN plot. When you have Umno as the boss and a man like Soi Lek in charge of the MCA, this is the sort of dirt you get,” an MCA watcher told Malaysia Chronicle.

The news shocked the country as the withdrawal of titular awards rarely occurs and only when the recipient has committed a major crime, like murder or embezzlement.

Even Soi Lek, who was filmed having extra-marital sex and performing unnatural sexual acts against the order of nature, was never asked to return his datukship.

“I am very saddened by this but I was warned that the Mentri Besar Abdul Ghani Othman would ask the Sultan to take back the titles if I joined Anwar,” Jui Meng told Malaysia Chronicle.

The 67-year old joined Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim's PKR last year, citing disenchantment with the BN’s unwillingness to carry out reforms.

All eyes are now on another former senior BN leader - ex-law minister Zaid Ibrahim - to see if he will also be asked to surrender his datukship.

Still influential

A top leader in the Chinese community, Jui Meng was among the five most powerful men in the MCA during his heyday. Despite leaving the party, he still wields influence in Malaysia’s southernmost state, where he was the Bakri MP for five terms until 2004.

Jui Meng was also the longest-serving Health Minister from 1995 to 2004. But recently, he publicly crossed swords with Soi Lek, whom he described as untrustworthy and treacherous compared to former MCA president Ong Tee Keat.

Soi Lek beat Tee Keat in the recent MCA party polls and has already acted to have Tee Keat dropped from the Cabinet and his followers ousted from positions of power within the MCA.

Despite public outcry and accusations of nepotism, Soi Lek also insisted on securing a deputy minister-ship for his son Tee Yong, the MP for Labis.

“This is a Johor power play. But it is not just Soi Lek. Frankly, he doesn’t have the guts to move alone without the backing of top Johor Umno leaders. Muhyiddin’s name has also been mentioned,” the MCA watcher said. He was referring to Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

Justice for Jui Meng

Meanwhile, Jui Meng – who says he will keep his official medals until a formal notification from the Palace – promises to step up his campaign for change.

“It is not the Sultan’s fault. To an extent, he is also a victim of our political system,” Jui Meng said.

A devout Christian, Jui Meng helped the Pakatan win the Sibu by-election last month, reaching out to the thousands of Christians in the East Malaysian constituency with his suave and persuasive oratory.

PKR leaders have reaffirmed their support for him, a member of their supreme council and political bureau.

“We urge the Malaysian Chinese throughout the country, especially in Johor, to take note of what is happening. We also ask the same of the Malaysian Christians especially those in Johor - please take note of what is happening,” PKR director of strategy Tian Chua told Malaysia Chronicle.

“Gauge for yourselves whether Jui Meng has been fairly treated and then show your anger and protest at the ballot boxes. Jui Meng deserves justice, he has served the community and the nation long enough."

Jui Meng stripped of Johor datuk-ship

Regina Lee
Jun 10, 10

Funny country ain't it? A Porno actor caught in action, can still keep his datuk-ship, but an innocent man gets stripped. What about also those Alongs with Datukship and those Triads Tiger Generals ? Even Anuar Ibrahim was not stripped of his Datukship !

Rumours had it that a pornsident who is very close to the Johore MB was the person involved to strip CJM of his Datukship .....more to come while we get to the bottom of this bottle caps business .

The Johor palace has revoked two awards conferred upon MCA-turned-PKR man Chua Jui Meng - one carries the title 'Datuk Seri', the other 'Datuk'.

Chua - who now sits on the PKR supreme council - said Johor Royal Council Secretary Datuk Abdul Rahim Ramli had called him twice asking for him to return all his medals today.

NONE"(Abdul Rahim) told me that my two datuk-ships have been revoked," Chua, who was Health Minister from 1995 till 2004, told Malaysiakini.

Chua (left) had been conferred the awards by the late Johor Sultan, Sultan Mahmud Iskandar.

They were the 'Dato Paduka Makhota Johor' and the 'Seri Paduka Mahkota Johor". Chua said Abdul Rahim refused to tell him the reason for the revocation stating that the palace was not obliged to reveal its reasons.

Chua was formerly an MCA vice-president. He left the party after an unsuccessful attempt at the president's post in the 2008 party election. He joined PKR in 2009.

Still a 'Datuk'

He, however, will still retain his 'Datuk' honorific as he had also been conferred state awards in 2002 and 2003 by both Pahang and Selangor respectively which carry the title.

Today's move confirms prior wide speculation fuelled by PKR Deputy President Syed Husin Ali who Tweeted the rumour several days ago.

Chua refused to comment further, saying that he will only issue a statement when he finally receives an official letter from the Johor Palace.

The former five-term MP for Bakri hit the Christian sermon circuit after his cabinet position came to an end. Chua also sits on PKR's powerful Political Bureau.

Key posts for Zaid, Jui Meng in PKR reshuffle

June 04, 2010

KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 — PKR is likely to appoint Datuk Zaid Ibrahim and Datuk Chua Jui Meng to key posts within the national leadership, as the party seeks to widen its appeal ahead of the next general election.

The two former Barisan Nasional heavyweights currently hold no posts within PKR apart from their role in the party’s powerful political bureau. Zaid, who lost the Hulu Selangor by-election, now leads the Pakatan Rakyat secretariat working to formalise the coalition between PKR, DAP and PAS.

It is understood that PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will either have to create new posts or sacrifice incumbents, in a bid to keep the two in the party that has been shaken by a series of defections.

“They have to be given posts. These are political heavyweights with vast influence and Anwar would want greater roles for them or it would be a waste,” one top official told The Malaysian Insider.

Chua joined PKR two years ago. — file pic
The likely appointments also come six months before the party’s first direct elections for all top posts. Any changes in the line-up will be seen as Anwar’s way of indicating his future team.

Sources said the move to give Chua, a former MCA vice-president, a post would likely cause discontent among the faction led by party strategic director Chua Tian Chang.

The first-term Batu MP is now the most prominent Chinese leader within PKR.

His early involvement with PKR — since the “Reformasi” days in 1998 when Anwar’s sacking as deputy prime minister triggered the popular movement — has forced the party’s de facto leader to “accommodate” his loyalty by naming him as the strategic director, replacing Saifuddin Nasution who was promoted to secretary-general.

Chua only joined the party two years ago after he lost in the MCA elections and a bigger, more influential post for him means a jump over the strategic director.

Sources said there would be unhappiness but all factions were likely to accept any decision made by Anwar.

The “reshuffle” would also see several leaders dropped from key strategic posts in PKR’s bid to make inroads among the Malay voters, who form the country’s dominant majority.

Anwar, in an interview with The Malaysian Insider recently, conceded that the battle for Putrajaya will be for the hearts of the rural Malay voters as PKR’s moderate image can only work its magic on the more exposed urban Malay electorate.

“What we will see is the placement of more senior Malay leaders in strategic posts so the party can bridge that gap with the Malay voters,” said another party official.

The PKR secretary-general declined comment when asked about the reshuffle of officials in the national leadership.

“I reserve my comment for the time being. I had just spoken to Datuk Seri (Anwar) just now but I cannot share the details,” Saifuddin told The Malaysian Insider.

The Machang MP himself took the senior post in an earlier reshuffle, after former secretary-general Datuk Sallehuddin Hashim quit the post and party last January.

Since then, several lawmakers have exited the party to either be independents or join Umno.

The party’s sixth congress in Kota Baru last week had resolved to prevent further walkouts, focus on defending its seats and woo more voters in its efforts to capture Putrajaya.

Umno aims to oust Tee Keat, says Jui Meng

PERMATANG PASIR, Aug 24 Former MCA vice president Datuk Chua Jui Meng dropped hints that embattled Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat’s position as party president is under threat, insinuating at an ongoing conspiracy by Umno to oust him.

Chua, who quit the Chinese party to join PKR, told some 500 people in a ceramah here that many Umno leaders are unhappy with the way Ong is trying to expose the RM12 billion Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal which, he alleged, would implicate many leaders from the dominant Malay party.

Have you seen the prime minister coming out to defend Ong? Have you heard of the deputy prime minister defending Ong on the PKFZ scandal? Or were there any other Umno leaders, for that matter, that have defended Ong on the issue? No,” said Chua.

“This never happened before. Last time, there was this strong camaraderie where leaders in Barisan Nasional (BN) would protect each other but this has not happened. The president of the second biggest BN component party is attacked and no one from Umno has come out to defend him,” added Chua,

He said the present situation, with BN component parties showing lack of cohesion and divided along racial lines, has caused disquiet among the people, especially the Chinese community.

This, coupled with widespread rumours among the ruling coalition’s inner circle that BN president Datuk Seri Najib Razak and deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin are dissatisfied with Ong’s presidency, preferring his deputy Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek instead to lead the Chinese-based party, have undermined Ong’s position.

“All this shows that Ong’s claim that he is under attack, internally and externally, is true,” Chua noted.

In recent weeks, the MCA president has also found himself locked in between two battle fronts from within the party and BN.

Ong had worked hard to build up an image of being clean and transparent but his reputation is now in tatters following Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing’s allegations about a large donation and rides on private jets, and his position as party president is considered shaky with MCA deputy president’s supporters expected to push ahead with plans to call for an EGM to remove him.

Tiong is CEO of Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd (KDSB), the main developer of PKFZ and whose company is under investigation by Ong’s ministry. Tiong had dropped a bombshell when he claimed that he had made a RM10 million donation to Ong “for MCA party purposes”.

Ong had also confirmed that the party’s treasurer-general Tan Sri Tee Hock Seng has been called up by MACC regarding the RM10 million donation by Tiong.

And my fellow blogger KTemoc has this to say.

Some three years ago, around September 2006, a then deputy Education Minister, Ong Tee Keat aroused the ire of Hishamuddin Hussein when he (Ong) exposed the corruption in a school.

Hishamuddin's cousin, Najib (then DPM) managed to get the Education Minister to apologise for his deputy’s (Ong’s) exposure of the rot in the education domain.

But much to the cabinet’s embarrassment, Samy Vellu confirmed what Ong exposed in that particular case, that corrupt school administrators couldn’t account for 90% of the maintenance funds, yes, 90% and not just 10% of the funds.

The word used was ‘embezzlement’. Ong Tee Keat exposed it, Hishamuddin was mad he did. Najib made him apologise (actually it was not actually Ong who apologised but his Minister).

Ong Tee Keat had then discovered UMNO didn’t like corruption (by the government lil’ napoleons or BN insiders) to be exposed. I believe that’s what Chua Jui Meng is now saying, that UMNO is once again mad with Ong for repeating his ‘mistake’, with the current PKFZ issue, ...

Anyway, back to Ong Tee Keat - Ong said of his intention to expose the PKFZ scam: I am willing to dismantle this time-bomb and if I fail, I will be the first to die.

In a way, I am waiting for death. Do you think Malaysians are stupid? Voters want transparency and accountability. Don't blame the blogs for posting gossips and speculations (on the PKFZ).

I am fighting for real and Ong Tee Keat never fakes his fights. As long as I have this breath, I will carry on this task.

If he doesn’t succeed, he knows that it’s not only him who will ‘die’ but the MCA as well.

This is my take on this issue . I wish to thank Datuk Chua Jui Meng for highlighting this fact that UMNO wants Tee Keat out . He has let the cat out of the bag .To me he is actually telling the Chinese Community that because Tee Keat is a downright clean politician and for that reason UMNO cannot tolerate clean politicians and hence the need to oust him . Another factor is the Master Slave relationship . Tee Keat has shown that he has the guts to speak out on the need for transparency and has shown that he is not a lap dog to UMNO and hence MCA under his leadership will not be a lap dog to UMNO or subservient to the UMNO master . And for this fact all those who talk about transparency in the govt should come out and openly support him .

On the Malaysian Insider spinning this fact , this is what they have to say .

Ong had worked hard to build up an image of being clean and transparent but his reputation is now in tatters following Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing’s allegations about a large donation and rides on private jets .

Ever wonder why the Malaysian Insider while clamouring for the BN Government to come clean and practise transparency would support the allegations of a suspect who has made fraudalent claims for his company at the expense of the public and taxpayers amounting to 660 million ringgit and maybe up to one billion ringgit ? So who is the Malaysian Insider supporting here ? The perpatuator of the fraud ? That's makes Malaysian Insider an accomplice of the fraud .

This, coupled with widespread rumours among the ruling coalition’s inner circle that BN president Datuk Seri Najib Razak and deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin are dissatisfied with Ong’s presidency, preferring his deputy Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek instead to lead the Chinese-based party.

Perhaps this is true . They would have prefer a goody boy who would not say NO to them and yes for everthing they have to say . After all they have caught the actor naked , and if he were to say NO to them , they would apply subtle pressure to his most treasured part of his anatomy. And if he were to be a yes man to man , they will probably carressed it . I am sure they would like it that way , isn't it Malaysian Insider ?
