SHAH ALAM, August 2 — Selangor state executive councillor Ronnie Liu today made an about-turn in the DAP graft crisis, claiming that his letterheads had been misused in support letters for contractors.

Liu’s claims today contradict his earlier stand that his letterheads had not been wrongly used in connection with the graft case against Klang municipal councillor Tee Boon Hock.

“I find that my letterhead and seal was misused,” Liu told reporters today. “They were three letters to give support to certain contractors.”

When it was pointed out that The Malaysian Insider had reported him denying that his letterheads were misused since graft allegations against Tee broke out last Tuesday, Liu claimed ignorance, saying: “What reports? I don’t know what report you are talking about.”

Liu had told reporters on July 28 that he was misquoted by English daily The Star and denied confirming that his letterheads were misused.

“They were issued without my knowledge or authorisation,” maintained Liu today, adding that he would not name the contractors for whom the letters were issued.

“All those letters use my letterheads and chop (seal), but the signatures are not mine,” he added, clarifying that his signatures were not forged but that they were not even his.

Liu, who has been hauled up to appear before a DAP disciplinary board on August 12, insisted that he was not the subject of graft investigations by the party.

“I am not being investigated. Why should I take leave?” asked Liu.

“I was asked [to attend] by the disciplinary committee because Tee Boon Hock actually said that I was the one who authorised him to sign those letters,” said Liu while denying he had done so.

Yesterday, DAP’s disciplinary committee chairman Tan Kok Wai said that Liu was summoned as he had been implicated by Tee during his hearing with the committee recently. Tee had claimed that the support letters at the centre of the investigations were signed under Liu’s instructions.

The support letters were issued by Tee, using Liu’s letterhead and signature, addressed to the Klang Municipal Council to secure contracts worth over RM1 million for several companies.

Tee was sacked last Saturday by the committee on grounds that one of the companies he had issued a support letter to was linked to his family.

This afternoon, Liu lodged a police report at the district police headquarters here on the three support letters which allegedly misused his letterheads.

The Selangor state exco member added that the police’s Commercial Crime Department here had also requested for him to give a statement later today on his allegations.
