China expert warns of pandemic flu mutation

HONG KONG, Nov 26 — China must be alert to any mutation or changes in the behaviour of the H1N1 swine flu virus because the far deadlier H5N1 bird flu virus is endemic in the country, a leading Chinese disease expert said.
Zhong Nanshan, director of the Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Diseases in China’s southern Guangdong province, said the presence of both viruses in China meant they could mix and become a monstrous hybrid — a bug packed with strong killing power that can transmit efficiently among people.
“China, as you know, is different from other countries. Inside China, H5N1 has been existing for some time, so if there is really a reassortment between H1N1 and H5N1, it will be a disaster,” Zhong said in an interview with Reuters Television.
“This is something we need to monitor, the change, the mutation of the virus. This is why reporting of the death rate must be really transparent.”
The World Health Organisation warned on Tuesday that H5N1 had erupted in poultry in Egypt, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam, posing once again a threat to humans.
“First, it places those in direct contact with birds — usually rural folk and farm workers — at risk of catching the often-fatal disease. Second, the virus could undergo a process of “reassortment” with another influenza virus and produce a completely new strain,” it said.
“The most obvious risk is of H5N1 combining with the pandemic ... (H1N1) virus, producing a flu virus that is as deadly as the former and as contagious as the latter.”
Zhong told the Chinese media last week that China may have had more H1N1 flu deaths than it has reported, with some local governments possibly concealing suspect cases.
The doctor is known for his candor and work in fighting Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome in 2003, when nationwide panic and international alarm erupted after it emerged that officials hid or underplayed the spreading epidemic.
Cover-ups by local governments in 2003 during the SARS epidemic led to the sackings of several officials. More than 300 people died in that outbreak.
China, the world’s most populous country, has reported around 70,000 cases of H1N1 and 53 death from the virus.
While some regions simply lack the technology to test for H1N1, other areas have been treating deaths as cases of ordinary pneumonia without a question, Zhong said.
“Some local healthcare authorities are reluctant, unwilling to test patients with severe pneumonia because there’s some latent rule which says the more H1N1 deaths, the less effective the control and prevention work in your area,” Zhong said.
Zhong said China’s health minister Chen Zhu rang him up last week and agreed with his views. A notice then appeared on the ministry’s website threatening severe punishment for officials caught concealing deaths from H1N1 swine flu.
WHO reported more than 526,060 laboratory confirmed cases of H1N1 worldwide on November 15, with at least 6,770 deaths. However, it has stressed for months now that the figures were only the tip of the iceberg.
It urged countries to place more resources on mitigating the disease rather then on costly prevention measures or testing everyone. All WHO and the US CDC will say is that “millions” have been infected. —

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 — Beleaguered Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat is courting the support of his former foe Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik and is making a hugely unpopular appointment at The Star in a last-ditch bid to cling on to the MCA presidency.
His strange moves come after Associated Chinese Chamber of Commerce Industry president Tan Sri William Cheng lashed out at Ong yesterday for doing nothing to help the community.
With fresh party elections looming, Ong could face challenges from Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek and Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, and he is taking no chances in what can only be described as a desperate attempt to cling on to power.
Aside from reaching out to Dr Ling, he has decided to appoint a new point man at the MCA-owned The Star newspaper to be his eyes and ears, as well as to ensure the daily backs him.
Ng Kee Seng, an undistinguished veteran journalist from the rival The Sun daily, will take up the post of Executive Editor at The Star from Jan 1.
The Malaysian Insider understands that Ng’s appointment is already causing widespread unhappiness among the staff at The Star, which is Malaysia’s top-selling and most profitable newspaper group.
It is learned that many of the editors in The Star are not happy at the prospect of reporting to Ng, whom they have little respect for.
Ng’s appointment is only the latest change Ong has made to The Star to shore up his position. He recently removed Datuk Leong Tang Chong as chairman of the daily because the former MCA legal bureau head disagreed with him over party matters.
In terms of editorial policy, it is learned that Ong has also now removed Dr Ling, the former party president, from a “black list” of personalities the newspaper would give little or no coverage to.

Yesterday, Cheng, the ACCIM president, made an unprecedented attack against Ong in an interview published by Sin Chew Daily, the country’s No. 1 Chinese-language daily.
Cheng said that under Ong’s leadership, the MCA had “split” from the country’s major Chinese organisations and clan associations.
He also criticised Ong for engaging in political infighting when the country was facing an economic crisis.
And in a stunning rebuff, Cheng said MCA representatives would for the first time not be invited to a quarterly dialogue between the country’s major Chinese organisations and clan associations this Sunday.
The current MCA crisis had been sparked by Ong, who had tried to sack Dr Chua as MCA deputy president and member.
But an EGM in October saw Dr Chua’s sacking overturned and Ong narrowly losing a no-confidence vote.
Despite saying he would resign if he lost the vote, Ong later reneged on his words and refused to quit.
He then turned against Liow as well as some of his other allies in the party leadership after they had asked him to resign.
After the intervention of Datuk Seri Najib Razak, he shockingly made peace with Dr Chua by appointing the latter’s supporters to key party positions.
But Liow and his supporters decided to instead call for another EGM to pave the way for fresh polls.
The new EGM was called off yesterday after an agreement was reached between Liow and Dr Chua to have fresh polls, possibly in January.

Yes, the shits in Megasteel needs to be expose. The company uses borrowers money to funds its operation. It had been limping along since it start operations more than 10 years ago. To get a fella like William Cheng, the obvious way is to topple his Lion group from the outside, and that requires a lot of $$$.
Lion group is not profitable. All the "profit" there is has been sucked up by the BoD (Board of Directors).
Suppliers are unpaid. Cheque bounds.
And the most important thing is, the Lion group itself, as a whole, isn't worth much.
So taking on the Lion group from the get go isn't worth the $$$ nor the effort.
However, there is another approach.
From the inside.
Instead of toppling it by force, imploding it from the inside would be much cheaper and quicker.
For example, the Megasteel Sdn. Bhd.
According to my source (I haven't checked the figure, so it could be wrong) Megasteel Sdn. Bhd. is still owing Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) at the tune of over 500 Million Ringgits.
And every month, the bill gets larger.
Wouldn't it better to pressure TNB in collecting the 500 Million Ringgit from Megasteel than to fight William Cheng on the stock market?
It is outrageous to have the tax-payers subsidizing Megasteel. The 500 Million unpaid bill (with no interest !) means the tax payers are bearing that sum.
If TNB can be pressured to collect the 500 Million Ringgit bill from Megasteel, William Cheng will be on a bind.

The Lion group itself is almost cashless right now. Its cash reserved is less than 100 million Ringgit, and that is for the entire conglomerate.
Which means, William Cheng has to find source of $$$ from the outside.
But from whom?
Banks? The Lion Group already owed a lot of money to a lot of banks.
Najib's brother is controlling CIMB, and maybe, just maybe, they can work out a deal with the Lion Group and loan them the 500 Million bucks.
Or, William Cheng may sell part of his shares to Lion Group to Khazanah Nasional Berhad in exchange of 500 Million bucks.
But that is just a single case.
Other subsidiaries of the Lion Group are also in similar condition.
Take Parkson.
It's a non-profit organization, at least looking from its portfolio.
The Parkson chain in China is being used as venue for money laundering by some atas from arm no.
That is how Parkson is still afloat in the meantime.

No matter how William Cheng wants to boast, the Parkson chain in China ain't raking in money.

It sells everything but doesn't have any focus on anything.
It tries to but ain't fitting the "high class" criteria.

So what else does William Cheng got?
Why is William Cheng so eager to be the big kahuna of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce?
To cover up his own miserable failures, of course.
I know a lot of very successful businessmen who aren't wasting their time in the "Chamber of Commerce".
They focus on their business instead.
To get the TNB to call the 500 Million unpaid bill is just the start, because I want to know who William Cheng gonna borrow the money from.
In that way we can put a stop on that source.

However I don't use type of language all the time but in this case here when you use nice and humble language to these traitors they'll never get the message . They just cannot comprehend cool language .
The only language is rough language like what I am using now , like physically knocking into their heads for them to come to their senses .

He is gifted with the power of making decision and have the guts to stick to it. 2) He has conviction that what he does is right and he pursues it voigorously until the right become a reality. He moves people to action and changes people thinking/mindset. 3) He has the energy and the drive to carry out all his agendas - just imagine he got rid of those whom he thinks is standing in his way which I think a good move in time and size of the crisis. 4) True, God is in control of past present andfuture. Those who are obedient to God's will will have the blessings to do the right and be sustained in time of trouble/crisis - don't you know powerful angels are circling the globe to implement what should be righteous acts - there are divine movements behind the scene that support righteous princples and to achieve certain agendas.
