Is MCA's Party Constitution a piece of TOILET Paper ?

Here's an extract from this article which I find it well written . I am highlighting the essential and prominent sentences in red .

Tattered MCA must emulate Umno

Ng Kee Seng

PETALING JAYA (Oct 18, 2009) : The ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition's dominant party Umno concluded last week's historic annual general assembly, featuring an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to amend its constitution, without a hitch.

Like MCA's many other EGMs, it was inconclusive because there was a lack of acceptance to the outcome of the EGM and a lack of respect for the party constitution.

Before the EGM, all quarters and leaders swore they would respect the decision of the delegates but what has happened?

They began putting forth arguments, various interpretations of the decision, ignoring the party constitution. That is their version of accepting and respecting the decision of the delegates.

If Umno members can respect their constitution, make selfless decisions for the party's well being, and leave it at that, why can't MCA?

Every political party has a constitution to ensure lawlessness is not the order of the day. No consensus will prevail if members continue to put forth other factors to challenge the delegates' decision and constitution.

For MCA, the constitution clearly states that the president can only be removed from office in an EGM with the support of two-thirds of the central delegates. To continue challenging that is disrespectful to the Constitution . Period !

Embattled president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat has called for another EGM so that members (in this case the 2,380 central delegates) can decide whether they want to remove the central committee (CC) members to pave the way for fresh party elections.

To say the least, those who objected to EGM2 are simply afraid to face the delegates and members for their own selfish reasons. They have bandied about all sorts of reasons to justify remaining in office.

All party members are supreme or paramount because they make up the party. Not the CC, presidential council or individuals.

Before the 10/10 EGM, Ong said that he would have to quit if he loses the confidence vote. He has not. Neither has he said he will not.

Quitting is one thing, leaving the party in tatters will smack of irresponsibility.

A sizeable number of CC members who were aligned to Ong have decided not to "sink or swim" with their president. Whatever happened to collective decision?

Like to add :

Under section 30.1 as provided by the Party Constitution , the President has the power to call for an EGM as directed by the President . Why are these "conspirators" objecting to the President's call for an EGM ?

Is the party's Constitution a piece of worthless paper or is it Toilet Paper ?

  1. As I am not a member of MCA, I would give the 30 MCA Central Committee members who don't care about their own party's constitution one suggestion:

Go form your own party, and leave MCA alone !

  2. MCA is sinking because of all these crooks. Holding their political posts without having the courage to face the consequences. Shame of them! We don't want these kinds of irresponsible leaders in MCA. Please get out of MCA, you guys have taken enough graft, stop corrupting the MCA!

  3. Constitution is sacred and supreme as its function is to protect the party from unscrupulous members from manipulating and destroying the party.
Ignoring the constitution means not respecting the members. The 10.10.10 was called by virtue of the constitution which allowed it thus the results and its implication should also be based on the constitution.
Not necessary to argue. make personal demands or interpretation or assumption.
Strictly refer to the constitution and move on.
Set precedence by ignoring the constitution will invite anarchy as what goes round will always come around.
PUT A FULL STOP TO BEING NAUGHTY BOYS AND GIRLS FOR YOUR DELIQUENCY AND INDISCIPLINE BAHAVIOUR DISOBEYING LAWS AND ORDERS.
Come on, grow up and be matured politicians.

    1. THINK POSITIVElah.

    2. A party Constitution is a constitution; certainly it is not appropriate to place it in the same class as 'toilet paper'.

    3. The trouble with politicians ( Indonesians call them "POLITIKUS"!) is that they choose to believe/enforce those articles ( of the Constitution) which benefit them, and ignore the rest.

    4. The Constitution must be read in WHOLE so as to avoid distortion.

    5. The only solution now is to seek PARTY RE-ELECTION, to once-and-for-all settle the Ern-Ern-Yen-Yen ( disputes ) of all the factions.

    6. If this EGM II also cannot cure the cancer in the MCA, then we Chinese voters shall have the liberty to urge PM to abandon the party already, and invite DAP to join BN!

    7. I noticed that Master XING YUN took pains to advise Chinese politicians in the country. I wonder how many of them care to digest and practice the advice?

[Master says " 1+1=2, so our politicial force will increase...]

["Participants in politics need to be courageous, but they also must have wisdom and mercy/kindness.Then only can they lead the people to progress...."]

[On MCA crisis: "MCA must unite. One finger has no power, but five fingers together become a fist. A fist is the force...."]

["MCA must also put the interest of the community and party first and foremost. The personal interest is a small matter. Using five fingers to hold chopsticks is more stable. So (MCA) must unite -- not for personal gains but for the Chinese community and party as a whole...."]

[Chinese political parties enjoy such a force today is due to yesterday's confidence and efforts. This force was not achieved easily. That's why MCA must unite...."]

[So we need to give and take. With unity, we shall have the force. But please don't be selfish; we must work for the Chinese community and party, and we must be selfless...These are vital issues."]

THINK POSITIVE.
