Utusan must change ways, says Najib
KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 — Controversial Umno mouthpiece, Utusan Malaysia, must transform itself if it wishes to stay relevant, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today.
The Malay-language daily pushes Umno’s agenda — often through racially-tinged articles against the party’s rivals — but Najib urged the 72-year-old newspaper to be more than just the party’s mouthpiece.
“I understand that sensational news sells... especially with that ‘one person,’” he said in a veiled reference to Utusan Malaysia’s constant attacks on Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“But you must also be a medium to build an intellectual culture, a critical society,” the Umno president added.
The best solution is to shut down this un1Malaysia newspaper. Then Najib will be applauded for his action. MCA will gain some credibility. If Utusuan continue the way it is MCA will be blamed for ineffective.
ReplyDeleteNajib's efforts to liberalize certain sector of our country financial system to improve the overall economy have pay off. We are now top ten in our competitiveness ranking.....This will surely bring more FDI into the country....But sad to say such commendable zeal did not bring him the Chinese votes....
ReplyDeleteUtusan, Dr Mahathir, Ibrahim Ali, Samy Vellu and lastly MCA tainted president are all thorns in Najib's 1Malaysia.......the bad blood culture which these people pursue undeniably undermine Najib's labor to build a more buoyant economy, which he need every citizen irrespective of race and religion to contribute.
Najib should put his foot down on those people....
