Why Chua turned against Ong

PETALING JAYA (March 7, 2010): MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek’s announcement on Thursday to quit his party posts along with seven central committee (CC) members aligned to him just three days before the the party annual general meeting caught many by surprise.

According to a report in "Oriental Daily News" today, there were two reasons why Chua turned his back on embattled party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat to force a fresh party election – the tacit support he received from vice-president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong, and Ong’s perceived intention to further consolidate his power instead of relinquishing it.

The report said it was learnt that following secret talks, both Liow and Wee had handed Chua two sets of forms nominating Chua for the No. 1 post in the fresh party polls, with Liow also acting as seconder for Wee’s nomination and vice versa.

In return, Chua has also nominated Liow for the No. 2 post.

In other words, the trio have committed to cross-nominate one another and will not be able to nominate others.

Party insiders told the daily the earlier deal between Ong and Chua was for Ong to gradually relinquish his power and make way for Chua to take over the party baton before the Chinese New Year.

Chinese New Year has come and gone and not only had Ong not given any hint of him stepping down, it was said he was planning to table a special resolution to set up MCA’s general election national steering committee to be headed by him at the party AGM.

Ong’s plan, reportedly “leaked out” days before the AGM, would give him the absolute power to decide who get to contest the next general election on the MCA ticket and which constituencies.

This no doubt will reduce Chua’s role in the party’s preparations for the next general election and the bargaining chip of his faction.

It was learnt that this has prompted Chua to abandon the Greater Unity Plan and make the pre-emptive strike.

>> Yeow ( Lau Sai Tiam ) mulling run for VP's post

CENTRAL Committee (CC) member Datuk Dr Yeow Chai Thiam, who has had to feel the pressure for not being nominated to any government post so far, is expected to go for the vice-president's post in the party election scheduled for March 28, China Press reported today.

Yeow has intended to contest the vice-president's post in the last party polls but decided to stay put in the CC because of the sheer number of candidates vying for the four vice-president’s posts.
Yeow, who has been keeping a high profile since the party infighting broke out last year, is a supporter of vice-president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and one of the 13 CC members who submitted conditional resignation letters to the party central late last year to requisition a fresh party election.

Following the decision of deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek and six other CC members last Thursday to quit the CC to force fresh polls to be held, MCA watchers are keeping close tabs on Yeow’s next move as the party get set for a big reshuffle.

For the Negri Sembilan liaison chief, who is only a senator, the coming party polls will be crucial as it is seen as the last chance for him to move up the party echelon.

Yeow has strong grassroots support in Negri Sembilan, commanding the backing of two-thirds of the 126 central delegates from the state.

Liow Tiong Lai

The report said Yeow, who is not only expected to go for the vice-president post but also fight for a government post for Negri Sembilan MCA, is on Liow’s line-up for the party polls.

Meanwhile, Liow told the press on Saturday he has not decided what post contest.

Former party secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan said he has no inspiration yet whether he should contest the coming polls.

On talk that he would go for the No. post, he said it is mere speculation.

CC member Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai, who lost the contest for the deputy president post in the 2008 party elections, said he is keen to contest a high post but would only announce it after the party AGM. -- theSun

  2. Quote from Lim Kit Siang,

Let me tell Ong – go all out to bring the “sharks’ of the RM12.5 billion PKFZ scandal to justice and not be content with the “small fries”, even if he has to pay the price of being a short-term MCA President and Transport Minister. If he is to leave the Cabinet and MCA leadership, do it with a bang rather than in a whimper.

  6. If MCA is serious about a total make-over, MCA going to have do this one thing:

Make sure that only those who can discern what is RIGHT from WRONG be elected as CDs.

MCA does not have a top to bottom problem.

    The problem is bottom-up.

Yes, MCA rots from the bottom, all the way to the top.

It is the branches that are rotting.

Rotting branches elect CDs who are themselves of very questionable quality.

These half-past-six CDs in turn, gather once so often to elect equally half-past-six leaders.

And it is those half-past-six leaders who have done so much damage to the Chinese in Malaysia !

So it is a bottoms-up approach, if MCA is really serious about a total make-over.

But then, will MCA ever get a chance to do that?

Looking at the present cadre of CDs, I am not too sure.

Even if MCA gets a super wonderful leaders, with half-past-six CDs, MCA will go no where.

    You know why?

Because it is NOT the MCA president who talk and interact with the Chinese people in Malaysia every day.

It is the CDs, the branch bosses, those in the local level, who talk to their friends and neighbors in kopitiams all over this country.

And if the MCA local branch bosses are half-past-six, what do you think the Chinese people will feel?

"Aiya, they only hao-siao la !"

That is how the Chinese people have been feeling about MCA for the past 50 years or so.

Sure, we Chinese might be "Kek Kee" to you guys. We might still call you "bruder" in front of you, but at the back, we just shake our head, and sigh.

Do you MCA people know who you are?

Do you know how we Chinese feel about you guys?

You do not know that, do you?

  8. The team up between the DVD actor and DVD director is to achieve a common goal that is to topple OTK, nothing less, nothing more.

Since day one OTK become MCA President, the DVD actor have been plotting to overthrow him. He wanted to be the president at all costs. Lately his actions of bringing the MCA AGM to its knee are evidence that he do not care about party interest. Similarly the DVD director and his crews have vast interest to protect, as OTK are bringing some crooks to book.

But the DVD actor have very deep scar that cannot be erased which will follow him to his grave. As such he is seeking vengeance, are desperately looking for the person who inflict that drastic blow. Perhaps his star is rising, that DVD director present the DVD actor with the MCA presidentship for being so successful actor that their best seller DVD sells better that hot cake. The DVD actor equip with the new found presidential power immediately start digging and looking into all the investigating files in MCA who is that very skillful DVD director who make him very famous as he got a big nice present for him ......

  10. Dear justice4otk,

I have a gut feeling that CSL resigned out of spite for OTK and would not contest the President Post, as we all know that he is very revengeful.

As a seasoned politician, he will contest again for the Deputy President just to prove his point and the Delegates will elect him again butthis time it will be out of sympathy.

The casualty of this game will be OTK.

  11. You know what is wrong with MCA?

    Apart from the shitty CDs?

MCA has become like Lim Kit Siang - yeah, THAT Lim Kit Siang !! - tok kok all the time, nothing to show !

Used to be the title of Mr. Kok Toker belongs to Lim Kit Siang.

    Now?

When you say "Tok Kok Only La" people think of WKS, CSL, OTK, CMF ... and so on, all from MCA !

Yes, that is what MCA has become, toking kok organization !

Hao siao this, tua pen that, and they still think the Chinese are stupid.

We Chinese can see a kok toker from 10 miles away, and nowadays, when we see anyone from MCA, we hear kok toking.
