Ong sorry PKFZ issue linked to MCA leadership crisis

KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 — MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat today admitted that the controversial Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) issue may have caused the leadership crisis and turmoil in the party.

He apologised to the central delegates who attended the party’s 56th annual general assembly here for the uneasiness the crisis had caused them.

This was the third time the embattled president has apologised over the issue in two days.

The party was rocked this week by the en bloc resignations of its elected central committee members, including deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, which forced the party to set March 28 for fresh polls.

Ong (picture) said he chose to start the investigation into PKFZ in his capacity as the Transport Minister.

“I am willing to bear the consequences of the investigation into this crisis. But, if the impact is on the party, I apologise because this is unpredictable,” he said in his winding-up speech.

He said he also could not establish the link between the PKFZ issue and the party’s turmoil as both crises had happened at almost the same time.

“I do not know if this is a coincidence or otherwise,” he said.

Speaking to reporters later, Ong stressed that investigation into the PKFZ issue must continue, saying that he was trapped in a Catch-22 situation.

He said the issue had been used by the opposition in the 2008 general election and if investigations were not carried, it would again become a political baggage to the party and the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition in the next general election. — Bernama

  1. Stop worrying about BN.

BN has done MCA no good.

BN has done the Chinese people in Malaysia no good either.

    Get your priority right, OTK.

The Chinese is your future. Not BN.

  5. I have long told my MCA frens even before 308 that MCA should seriously considering leaving BN. MCA has the "heart" to do good, not only for chinese, but all Malaysian. But to go under the roof of BN where you have so many AMNO people uttering non-sense keep you MCA busy putting out fire and leave you no time to go forward.

You should start talking to your Nan-siong-nan-Di GERAKAN and plot your next move before it is too late.
