KUALA LUMPUR: Although the MCA elections are only about two weeks away, two former party central committee (CC) members are unsure of their eligibility to contest.

Datuk Wong Mook Leong and Wong Nai Chee – both aligned to former vice-president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai – had resigned together with 11 other CC members on March 3.

Under Article 33 of the party constitution, those qualified to contest are the incumbent CC members; central delegates, MPs and state assemblymen, state liaison committee chairmen and division chairmen.

The two do not fall into any of these categories.

When contacted, Nai Chee said he had written to party secretary-general Datuk Wong Foon Meng yesterday to ascertain his eligibility to contest.

He claims eligibility under Article 41. Nai Chee said the particular provision stated that “nothing herein shall prevent the re-election of any ex-central committee members.”

“I was aware of Article 33 before I signed the resignation letter.

“What was most important at the time was to make the fresh elections a reality,” he said.

Nai Chee added that he would abide by any decision made by the party even if it was not in his favour.

“The party has been facing many issues.

“I do not want to create anymore problems,” said the former Kota Melaka MP.

Nai Chee also said that he had yet to decide the position he would be going for if he was deemed qualified to contest.

Foon Meng, when contacted, said he had yet to receive the letter from Nai Chee.

“We will study the case and any decision will be made in accordance with the party constitution,” he said.

MCA veteran Mook Leong, a CC member since 1977, holds the record as the longest serving member of the committee.

Mook Leong had served under six of 10 party presidents including Tun Tan Siew Sin.

He could not be reached for comment.

Sorry Lah ! There's no way you can contest . And since you have resigned , why want to recontest ? Since you are no longer interested in serving the party , by quitting your CC post , then I suggest you stay out , nobody wants you . If you have not resigned , that's a different story . We don't want quitters !

  1. Letters are lost in the mail and not received. Therefore their status cannot be reviews. They have to resent their letters.

I saw that one article . She's in a catch 22 position . Looks like she got played ......

Nobody wants her , she's has become a liability to everyone taking her in ! Don't think she can even muster 50 votes from her Wanita Wing .

Even her senatorship and deputy minister is on the line . Once she loses her Sang ee yen , she's finished !

  5. Not so fast with fried noodle. She may still have a chance. Whichever side that finally have an alliance with the Ong brothers may have to take her. Nobody want here but she is a baggage that comes with the bargain.

Do you think this will happen ?

KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 — Will former MCA president Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting make a political comeback?

Following the party’s dismal performance in the 2008 general election, the former housing and local government minister had decided not to defend the top post.

Nevertheless, it is learnt that several party grassroots leaders have been pushing for Ka Ting’s return as they felt he could strengthen and unify the embattled party.

Among them is Gurun assemblyman Dr Leong Yong Kong who today, made a public appeal for the former party president to come out of retirement and save the “sinking ship” or “save the party”.

Party sources said Ka Ting’s former close aides are also talking to him into make a comeback, reasoning that none of the current crop of leaders are able to unite the party which is scheduled to have a fresh poll on March 28.

But some grassroots leaders said Ka Ting, who could not be contacted for comments, would stay out as his elder brother and former secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chua has expressed intention to contest in the election.

Ka Chuan lost in the battle for the deputy president’s post to Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek in the 2008 party poll.

Last week, the party’s leadership crisis saw a dramatic twist when 22 elected Central Committee members resigned, including Dr Chua and all four vice-presidents.

Meanwhile, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha hinted today that he might go for the party deputy president’s post.

“I will either defend my vice-president position or might go for deputy president. It has not been decided yet. I will let you know when the time is right,” he said when contacted.

Nomination for the party poll will be held on March 22 and party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat is said to be planning to announce his move to defend the post Friday. — Bernama

  9. OKT is not as stupid as you think he is.

If he is to make a comeback, he won't do it such that he would come back, but he would make it as if he is FORCED to come back, for the good of the party. :)

Oh, btw, you guys have 11 days to decide what you guys will and can do for the perilous MCA.

    Just a friendly reminder.

  10. From the news, it would appear that LTL is lost on which side he is going to support..OTK or CSL?

You guys reckon he can work with someone who is so tainted in life? I will be very embarassed to even stand near him.

Come on LTL you have no other choice..back the devil(OTK) you know than the devil(CSL) you dont know because the Devil(CSL) you dont know may end up sleeping with your wife!

  13. MCA was bashed up nicely during 12th GE and inflicted with a deep wound, the wound keep on bleeding. MCA people should know why, two main reasons, Pakatan was able to effectively paint MCA as UMNO's lapdog and MCA people are only interest in seeking fame.and forture.

With OTK as the new MCA President, there are hope and he DID NOT FAIL MCA. The rakyat have given MCA a notch up by OTK efforts in exposing the PKFZ scandal that have given MCA a life support which otherwise MCA would be already six feet underground.

The life support now hang by the thread which now lies in the hand of the Central Delegates, will they take it off ???........

The Rakyat perception is very simple......to vote OTK out is as good as telling the Rakyat that MCA do not need OTK Reforms agenda and what he have been doing including exposing PKFZ scandal...these issues are not important but what is important is their pockets !!!

Central Delegates , got it or not ???........

  14. Where got MCA Central Delegates with conscience one?

    Where got?

All of them are interested in one thing --- What kind of benefit are you going to give me.

The entire MCA election runs on barter system. You gimme something I vote for you, else I vote for your opponent.

    Aiya, biasa la !

Arm no is like that, MIC is like that, MCA where got different one?

    ReplyDelete
  15. The central delegates are not human beings. They are the demons created by MCA leaders to serve their lust for power. Dont talk of the cds as if they are people.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Mana ada human being left in MCA, fren?

You back stab me, I back stab you back, and then we back stab somebody else.

After all the back stab counter-back stab, mana ada human being left?

  17. MCA four or five factions can fight with each other before 322. Once a new formula comes out then the fighting will be on Gentlemen Basis. Pyramid

  18. Where got gentleman left?

    Backstabbers are not gentlemen.

    No way !

Especially the way MCA back-stabbed the Chinese !

No, none of them can be called a "Gentleman".

  19. Any thing must has its end and MCA whether still win the respect or support from the Chinese after the fresh election is these back-stabbed CDs choice. As a PR support do wish to see who is the President . But as a Chinese, we do not like to be leaded by Moral-Tainted President. We hope our dream can come true and the nightmare leaving us.

  20. Is time Chinese must come out to solve his problem . Too many BLACK HANDS behind MCA to manipulate a chosen Weak President. Only the wisdom of CDs can interact among themselves to solve the party crisis ONCE FOR ALL. Even how concern Chinese express to the fate of MCA is still remain a words of concern only and pay no means to change MCA destiny. The CDs of MCA , the future of Chinese in your hand to decide who shall lead the party, just put aside all your personal feeling, your anger and your greedy. Thinking of the FUTURE DIRECTION OF Chinese in this country. YOU WILL KNOW WHO IS YOUR CHOICE. Even OTK can retain his presidency seat, the most he can sit is Two term only, but if your choice is not him now , the new president may only sit comfortable for one year and enough to enrich himself only on the expense of chinese right and future in this country.CDs is time you showing us how to LOVE & RESPECT YOUR PARTY too.

  21. Is time Chinese must come out to solve his problem

    Really?

When was the last time MCA solved any problem for the Chinese community?

The Chinese school problems were never solved.

The Ketuanan Melayu problem? Was it solved?

The "Pendatang" problem, the "Babi" problem, the problem originated from those bloody racist, has MCA ever find enough guts to solve?

  22. MCA lack of RIGHTEOUS & BRAVED YOUTH Chief like AMR NUR CARRY TO FIGHT KETUANAN MALAYU and PERKASA IBRAHIM ALI TO FIGHT RACIST ISSUE and EX-PKR MP ZUL TO FIGHT ALLAH ISSUE and DJZ SAY NO TO INCREASE MALAY LANGUAGE TEACHING TIME.
