MCA not ready for snap polls, says Soi Lek | | ||

KUALA LUMPUR - The MCA, the second largest Barisan Nasional component party, is not ready to face a snap general election, at least for the next three months, party president Dr Chua Soi Lek said Monday. He said the MCA had yet to recover fully after a bruising one-and-a-half years of internal crisis, adding that he needed at least six months to one year to stabilise the party. In an interview with Bernama, Chua said the party needed to ensure that there was "unity in purpose", particularly in terms of achieving "our common political agenda". "In politics, I have learnt to accept the fact that nothing is impossible (on a possible snap election soon) but, if you ask me, I feel it is unlikely," he said when asked to comment on speculation that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak may call an early general election. Before facing the 13th general election, which is due in 2013, Chua said the BN should first make some changes to the current concept of power-sharing in order to suit the times. Chua, who took over the party's helm this year, said it was not correct to say that the BN had not made changes but added that the changes had been perceived as minor and more improvement was necessary. Politcal situation complex Asked if the BN would make enough changes in time for the next general election, Chua pointed out that he sincerely believed that Najib had the political will to make the changes. Asked if the government should accommodate all the wishes of the party and the Chinese community in order to win back the community's support, Chua answered "yes" and "no". He pointed out that the political situation in Malaysia was complex, saying that it would be politically naive to think that the opposition pact would fulfill all the expectations and needs of the Chinese community if it came to power. "A government in power needs to balance the needs of all the races. The BN government should be seen to be fair and democratic. Decisions made should be more transparent and which the people can accept," he said. He said the government should not only say the right things but also do the right things and, only by doing so, would it be able to win the support of the multiracial society in the country. On the party election next year, he said it would proceed unless the party's powerful decision-making body decided against it. Prolonged party internal crisis The MCA usually holds its party election once every three years – from the branches, divisions and up to the central leadership. After the party polls in 2008, the next one was supposed to have been held in 2011 but was held earlier, in March this year, due to the prolonged party internal crisis. "It (party polls) should proceed next year because we don't know when the general election is ... unless the CC (Central Committee) is against it (the party polls)," he said. On whether the party would introduce direct presidential election such as being planned by Umno, Chua said most of the members were not in favour of making changes due to time constraint. "If you make changes to the party election system, you need at least eight to 10 months as you need to call an EGM (Extraordinary General Meeting) and later submit the changes for approval by the ROS (Registrar of Societies). "Some also feel that we should not be diverted to discuss a new party election system but should first focus instead on the next general election," he said. |

J4,
ReplyDeleteSure MCA will not be ready as the seats are not warmed up yet and many are not assimilated yet. even the President is precarious in position.
J4, do you have any info why the young and inexperience Argriculture dep Mintrs is busy rolling out LOANs for bird Nest Farmer Project???
Any idea, how many CSL ppl involve in this projects......check Tee SK, and all other his staunch supporters....
Noted and thanks
ReplyDeleteHonorable Badawi won a landslide with an Agenda for change, Najib rating gone up with an Agenda for change, OTK raised the profile with an Agenda for change. Without an Agenda for change, sorry, we go back to the old school of thoughts. Will the youngsters today, far greater in numbers than the old season players accept beatles music when now hooked hearing to Lady Gaga??
ReplyDeleteOne thing is for sure, this website will see to it that MCA and BN fail miserably in the next GE. Only then it will serve to prove that OTK is really good. Without OTK as a cabinet member and leader of component party, BN and MCA will collpase. OK or not ? satisfied ?
ReplyDeleteActually there is no need to talk about any other issue, the only issue worth talking for J4OTK is that OTK is a superman, he is invincible. That is enough already, why talk so much on other issues ? Waste time only. Just say OTK is good, so good that nobody including the PM is any where near to him.
ReplyDeleteOf course. MCA will fail miserably. MCA is no longer accepted, especially with Chua Soi Lek as President. I do not trust a bugger like him. Smooth tongue and black heart.
ReplyDeleteThere it confirms everybody belief what this blog stands for. This blog talks about the future of one person only, that this country, the party MCA and the government, BN included survival all depends on one person only i.e. none other than OTK. How silly, how stupid this blog could be, wasting time.
ReplyDeleteThis is just another opposition sponsored website, hiding under pro-BN mask, but eventually working for the downfall of BN.
Chua Soi Lek is talking male chicken. Say one thing and do another. And oh, you poor MCA buggers. Be careful of his sneaky actions to push his greenhorn son up. He is spending a lot of effort to "kill" OTK, his only enemy blocking his plan. He will steal MCA blind.
ReplyDeleteRealistically, when MCA chose a tainted person as their president against the wishes of the society who the general public do not trust but prefer Ong Tee Keat which the Medaka survey have shown, they certainly committing kamikaze. They know it pretty well but they don't care as long as they fill up their pockets.....
ReplyDeleteDidn't the tainted president display his obvious selfish self serving feature with the practice of nepotism by favoring his relatives and friends.....why he dare not reform so that the president can be elected by every member?... the answer is very clear, the patronage election in MCA which small group of so called central delegates can be bought favour him and his gang, that why today you have garbages running MCA, thats why they are scare of any snap election......
MCA lead by an unethical president will surely be crashed in any election. Time is not the obstacle, he simply dare not face the people and lead any election and is just buying more time to fill up more....after that MCA can go to the dogs....
We have to accept the fact that the party has better business acumen than political. Everybody is talking about adaptation to current reality i.e. an AGENDA for change, not CSL not OTK or PM or etc. who is better or what. Why do we need to be so personal? Look at today's political landscape, some are ultras, some right wing, middle of the road...so what do we want?
ReplyDeleteBugger this Chua Soi Lick, his son and his cronies including that fat dumb donald duck and that thief Chor whatever his name.
