Chinese guild keen to usurp MCA’s political role?Article from Mylivingwall
ACCCIM's members are superficially seen as powerful representatives of the Chinese business community, but being rich and wealthy does not mean that you are a competent leader as more intellectuals fade away from guilds and associations.
Article:
True to speculations, MCA vice-president Liow Tiong Lai's faction announced the cancellation of the EGM scheduled for Nov 28, purportedly to pave way for fresh elections.
According to Malaysiakini reports, there were smiling faces all round, in stark contrast to the weeping drama on Nov 18. There were no pro-Chua or pro-Ong leaders present at the press conference, giving rise to the belief that it is just a face-saving mechanism carefully crafted by the pro-Liow faction to avoid the EGM from being aborted due to insufficient quorum.
Word has it that central delegates were generally bored and exhausted after the last episode on Oct 10 EGM. Further more, the Nov 28 EGM resolution has been ruled illegal by the CC committee on Nov 18.
Hitherto, where to proceed from here? Even though all major Chinese press carried Liow's announcement by default and published similar reports that fresh elections will be held Jan 2010, the basic uncertainty still lingers on.
The Chinese newspaper has overstepped their own boundaries with Chinese guilds and associations taking sides to push for fresh elections.
William Cheng, president of the Association Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), was reported accusing Ong Tee Keat of doing nothing for the Chinese community ever since he was elected into office.
William's outburst has angered alot of the MCA grassroots. His remarks signal the breaking down of "mutual respect and separation" between politics and social and commercial affairs among political parties and guilds and associations.
ACCCIM's members are superficially seen as powerful representatives of the Chinese business community, but are ill-qualified. These people fail to realise that being rich and wealthy does not mean that you are a competent leader.
As more Chinese intellectuals fade away from guilds and associations, Chinese community leadership is going nowhere.
The cancellation of the Nov 28 EGM works contrary to the interests of Liow's faction. Had they wanted more bargaining chips, they should have proceeded with the EGM, passed the resolutions and submitted them to the CC for implementation.
The EGM should only be called off if there is a written agreement by all CC members to quit en-bloc. However, it is clear that there is no such understanding between the three factions.
Having fresh elections is not a workable formula as nobody will be willingly vacate their seats. The crisis is heading to another impasse just like the "Great Unity Plan" engineered by Ong Tee Keat and Chua Soi Lek earlier on.
Liow's faction has refused to abide by the GUP even though Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak endorses it.
Now it is Ong and Chua's turn to defeat Liow's proposal.
Nobody is talking about the GUP right now and soon no one will mention fresh elections either.
The MCA crisis is set to continue, all because members have proposed an unworkable formula to blackmail the party.
Watch out for more pulsating dramatics and intrigues. By all indications it will not end so soon. It will only come to an end if all parties agree on another truly workable formula. ~Tan SA |

ReplyDeleteHainanese leaders slams SinChew !
SEREMBAN: The Hainanese community took to task a Chinese daily for publishing a news article which claimed its leader Datuk Foo Sae Heng had said the association was considering withdrawing an exemplary service award given to MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.
Foo, the Federation of Hainan Association Malaysia president, said the manner his remarks were misrepresented by Sin Chew Daily showed the newspaper had a personal agenda against Ong.
Misrepresented: Foo (centre) flanked by Beh (left) and state MCA legal affairs adviser Tan Foong Luen responding to questions at the Negri Sembilan Hainan Association office in Seremban yesterday.
“It is strange that only Sin Chew got it (his remarks made during the dinner) wrong while all the other Chinese dailies got it right,” Foo said at a press conference at the Negri Sembilan Hainan Association here.
Foo said he had attended a dinner organised by the association here on Tuesday and was merely responding to questions by members if the federation was prepared to withdraw the Hainanese Exemplary Service Award given to its recipients.
Foo said that he had replied that the move could be considered but the final decision rested with the federation’s central committee.
“At no point was Ong’s name mentioned. But the newspaper named him in the heading in the story they carried the next day,” he said.
Apart from Ong, the other previous recipients of the award include MCA Wanita chief Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, Deputy Higher Education Minister Dr Hou Kok Chung, Tebrau MP Teng Boon Soon, MCA central committee member Wong Nai Chee and Selangor speaker Teng Chang Kim.
Foo, who became association president in June, said he had spoken with Sin Chew editors and hoped they would rectify the error.
“I don’t know how this happened but I want them to correct the situation.
“This is not good because I never uttered Ong’s name or implicated the MCA president in this.
“The Hainanese community and I respect Ong and hold him in high esteem,” he said.
Foo, a businessman, said he received many calls from angry members over the story as they assumed he had mentioned Ong’s name in his answer given that night.
Also present at the media conference were state Hainan association head Beh Nyap Sung and his committee members.
MCA Watcher
William Cheng is tu lan pah! He is getting a big head. SIn chew is becoming a player in this matter rather than being a newspaper. This is dangerous trend. When Chinese businessmen gets involved in politics and using the resources within their control to lie and cheat. I think this is time these resources be taken away from them. By force of necessary.
ReplyDeleteJ4OTK,
ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost, please get the disciplinary board going.
Next week's trip to Thailand ought to be the last official function for Wee Ka Siong as deputy minister, for the things he has done can never be pardoned.
Not by MCA and not by the Chinese community !
MCA Watcher,
ReplyDeleteThat "Hailam" leader lost his marbles.
I saw him on the TV publicly lambasting "the Transportation Minister".
And now he backtracked and say he never meant "Ong Tee Keat".

ReplyDeleteOne minute LTL said everyone should keep quiet and let the newly appointed Committee look into election matters within 2 weeks and another minute he is talking of election in January. How can we have such flip-flop leader.

ReplyDeleteNext week's trip to Thailand ought to be the last official function for Wee Ka Siong as deputy minister,
When did I mention Wee Ka Siong ? going to Thailand ? I said Ong TK is accompanying Najib to Bangkok .
Ling Liong Sik and Ong Ka Ting sold out the chinese by allowing this one tiong guy to own all the major chinese newspaper. This is allowing the triads to control the chinese opinion. These bloody friends of gangsters.
ReplyDeleteIS OTK ABLE TO BREAK THE JINX?
ReplyDeleteMCA records show that its Presidents had their SURNAMES started with either "T" or "L":
Tun Tan Cheng Lock;
Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu;
Dr Cheah Toon Lok (Acting)
Tun Tan Siew Sin;
Tan Sri Lee San Choon;
Datuk Dr Neo Yee Pan (Acting)
Tan Koon Swan;
Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik;
Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Ting;
Dato' Sri Ong Tee Keat.
It looked like Ong Ka Ting managed to break the jinx for a few years but after 308, he had to go.
Now Ong Tee Keat is the President [second Hainanese to fill the post--after Tan Koon Swan] : He is facing so much problems since Oct 2008. The road is bumpy & choppy.
OTK may survive after 1010EGM, because (luckily) at least his "first name" starts with "T" (Tee). In contrast, Ka Ting has his second name "T" (Ting)!
If the jinx is more powerful than Ong, then I fear that the next MCA President maybe the vegetarian LTL or the ambitious,rich "Deng Xiao Peng" of Malaysia --Ir. Donald Lim Siang Chai.
Chua Soi Lek, Ng Yen Yen, Wee Ka Siong,Fong Chan Onn etc got no hopelah....
