'Dr' Pundek Bagaro Ibrahim ready for ISA hattrick

KUALA LUMPUR: An unfazed Perkasa boss Ibrahim Ali said he is prepared to obtain his doctorate in the Internal Security Act (ISA).

The BN-friendly independent Pasir Mas MP stressed that he has no qualms about being sent to the gulags if the authorities deemed him and Perkasa a threat to national security.

In an SMS to FMT, the two-time ISA veteran also quipped that a third detention under the security law which provides for incarceration without trial would be akin to being conferred a “PhD in ISA”.

“I have strongly defended the retention of ISA. So if I am detained, I would not question the police or accuse them of wrongful detention. I believe that the police are professional,” he said.

The vocal MP also promised not to flee abroad to hide or garner support like what “other leaders have done”.

Responding to his critics, which inlcude Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and MIC's S Vell Paari, Ibrahim said: “I dare face all challenges and take full responsibility for what I have done.”

“I am also not the kind of person who makes a statement without using my brains and later seek an apology. These people are all cowards,” he added.

Scholarship row

Ibrahim, who has been courting controversy on a regular basis, came under fire recently for attacking Deputy Education Minister Wee Ka Siong.

He had accused the MCA Youth chief of questioning Malay rights by asking if the government would scrap Mara scholarships meant for Malay students since it was planning to do away with the Public Service Department's overseas scholarships, which are open to all.

Wee has denied this, claiming that Ibrahim had twisted his comments while the latter was also attacked by Khiary for kicking up a fuss over a trivial matter to seek publicity.

The tension escalated when Perkasa's newsletter Suara Perkasa, in its maiden edition yesterday, called for Wee's arrest under ISA on its front-page.

This prompted Khairy to urge the Home Ministry to probe the publication, which he claimed was attempting to incite racial unrest.

Vell Paari, on the other hand, said it is Ibrahim who should be arrested under ISA.

However, Perkasa officials have remained unapologetic, saying that the article served as a warning to those like Wee “not to stir a hornets' nest”.
