Its Interesting to see what one comments about BO Liow !

Costly denial in MCA battle – The Malaysian Insider

tmi-n.jpgNOV 11 - It was a simple denial. The type politicians always reach for. No, it did not happen. No, I did not say it.

But this denial could be costly for Datuk Liow Tiong Lai. After strenuously denying that he sought Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek’s endorsement to challenge for the top position in the increasingly irrelevant Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), he must accept the reality that his options for finding support in MCA are limited.

The denial was prompted by Chua’s press conference this morning, at which the party’s deputy president nudged Liow to state publicly what prize he was really after – deputy president or president.

Chua noted that Liow at times seemed keen on the number 2 position in MCA but at times seemed to be talking up his chances for the party president’s position.

The veteran Johor politician revealed that Liow had privately appealed for support in his bid for the top position in the party.

Liow and some of his supporters in the Central Committee are pushing for an extraordinary general meeting and fresh polls.

Several hours after the press conference, Liow hit back. He denied asking Chua to support his candidacy for the presidency, calling the latter’s statement a diversion.

His denial might have bought him a few hours of peace but it has surely fractured his ties with Chua, and ended whatever hopes he had of obtaining the support of party delegates aligned to Chua.

Since the party’s EGM on Oct 10, Liow has sought the help of some of the top Chinese tycoons to fix up three meetings with Chua.

The meetings took place at the Marriott Hotel and Prince Hotel, the latest of which was yesterday. Besides Chua and Liow, the meetings were attended by one or two senior party officials.

The Malaysian Insider understands that in the earlier two meetings, Liow slammed MCA president Ong Tee Keat and offered an olive branch to Chua.

Brash even during the best of times, Chua took the opportunity to take a dig at Liow, noting that he was among the group of MCA politicians who stood with Ong and attacked Chua for a good part of the year.

At yesterday’s meeting – put together with the help of someone close to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak – Liow broached the subject of contesting the party president’s position.

He conceded that he had between 300 and 400 delegates in his corner and noted that it would not be sufficient to mount any challenge. Chua, he noted, had between 700 and 800 diehard supporters.

But Chua was puzzled why Liow was seeking an alliance with him when his supporters had been attacking him in the media for being undemocratic and for being charitable with the truth over the Registrar of Society’s decision on the status of the number two position in MCA.

He also noted that publicly the vice-president’s supporters appeared to be pushing for him to vacate the deputy president’s position while privately Liow seemed keen on the number one position. So this morning he sought to call Liow’s bluff.

Liow’s quick denial of asking Chua for help buries any hopes of a possible alliance. Without this alliance, his already difficult task of climbing up the political ladder in the MCA becomes even more remote.

This is the end for Liow. He lie himself into a corner. He looks so stupid after this.

Dr Chua and Ong Tee Kiat should together work out a compromise to work together to bury Liow Tiong Lai and his faction for good by calling for AGM instead to resolve leadership issues at all levels, especially Youth and Wanita. Liow has staunch support from Wee Ka Siong and Chiew Mei Fan. These 2 should together with Liow be removed from the present MCA leadership. They will lose more including their cabinet posts. The Chinese community cannot trust people who backstabbed their friends.

At every step of the way the MCA crisis is moving, there appears to be too many twists and turns. The worms have come out of the woodwork. It's like a no-holds barred in-fighting but also some unseen hands are at work here. As for Liow he has shown his true colours.

If one has genuine leadership quality one should not have acted the way that he did in this party charade. Liow and his supporters are like impatient Young Turks who thought their time has come to take over. Fat hopes, the people are watching every move he makes. And you bet his moves are crude and awkward in every sense. How can I vote for a guy like him to be MCA leader?

Needless to say, Liow has worked himself into a tight corner. We'll see his next move.

  1. You what to know why Liow is shallow in thinking compared to CSL. CSL came from the old school where chinese classics were thought. Reading, writing and thinking were valued. Liow on the other hand came from a decling education system.
He do not have the depth of thinking. He came from a failed education system. And he dare want to be president.

  2. Dear Anon 11:40,

Blaming the education system isn't going to solve anything.

I too came from that "declining education system", and many more like me also came from the exact same system.

But none of us turn out to be FGZs proofs one thing, it all up to the individual.

LTL chose to be FGZs, he chose it willingly.

Anyone live by the sword die by it.

  3. Before EGM 2 , Brutus Gang should show their sincerity to quit the elected CC post so as to compatible to their determination and requisity to pass motion of their resolutions. Once passed the motion and tender their resignation later will be meaningless. But the turnout would be same - Useless. Every member once joined MCA must safeguard the party constitutions and its 8 main base stones . The act of the Brutus Gang has long jeopardised the fate of the party and quitting is only the resolution. Their last hope is to want 3rd party to intervene family affair will be Yi Chou Man Nin .

Actually MCA does not have a gigantic leadership problem that cannot be solved. It is the indiscipline 12 lost souls who are creating mountains out of mole holes every now and then to attract attentions inorder to destabilise the Party with the assistance of some have beens such as the ex-sec gen etc. Their hidden agenda is paramount, not the party. The Leaders in BN especially UMNO should not aggreviate the situation with statements which could be wrongly potray as lending support to the lost souls who are the MINORITY trying to rock the boat. DEMOCRACY should not be the slogan of convenience but walk the talk and practise it.

Wield the big stick or rotan to instil discipline in accordance with the party consitution.

The priority now is the setting up of THE DISCIPLINARY BOARD. The lost souls have taken advantage of the situation knowing that without the Displinary Board, disciplinary actions cannot be taken against them. They are very cunning but we must be able to read they minds.

Initiated disciplinary actions action them one by one to have the maximum effect.

    Procedure:
Summon them to explain why disciplinary actions should not be taken against them. Substantiated evidence and reasons stated.

    Options:
    1. Verbal warning with conditions.
    2. Ask for written explanations why disciplinary actions should not taken against them.
    3. Written warning with conditions.
    4. Suspension for a period according to the seriousness of the offence.
    5. Sacked from the party if the offence is repeated.

The question of deregistration brought by the Ex-sec gen has been used as decoy. MCA is registered under the Society AC 1966 and as such if the party has been following the Party Constitution and whatever directives or interpretation given by ROS shall not bring about deregistration of MCA.

I still hope common sense will prevail and MCA can come out stronger after 5th Dec 2009.

NO ONE IS INDISPENSABLE WHEN THE PARTY IS THREATENED BY THE TRAITORS WITHIN.

  5. Just wait for the RESOLUTIONS TABLED during this coming Dec 5th AGM . Only weeks away . Any resolution adopted by the AGM is paramount to be the voice of the Assembly or delegates .

I am NOT spilling any beans ... make your guess since any division can table or send any resolution made by the divisions to HQ for adoption .

  9. The members of the board resigned en bloc recently citing the party constitution being ineffective and thus they could not function professionally and effectively.
