Dear Sirs,

Re : Self immolation of Puchong hindu devotee’s root cause is PKR, DAP and PAS denying state land to all hindu temples, cemeteries, Tamil schools and Indian villages.

We refer to the above matter and our numerous letters to your goodselves on the aforesaid matter including our public protest outside the PKR Headquarters in Tropicana on 7/3/10 but regretfully to no avail.

Section 76 of the National Land Code in effect empowers (100%) especially the PKR, DAP and PAS State governments of Selangor, Penang and Kedah to alienate state land for public purposes.

The B.N government in the previous 50 years has refused to grant state land to the poor Malaysian Indian hindu temples, cemeteries, tamil schools and Indian villages (but deemed squatters) as they had granted to all the Masjids, suraus, muslim cemeteries and Malay schools.

Hindraf gave the political directions and with 90% of the Indians voting for the Opposition, PKR, DAP and PAS became the ruling state governments in Selangor, Penang and Kedah on the promise of Change. But change has not been forthcoming despite PKR, DAP and PAS ruling Selangor, Penang and Kedah for over 2 ½ years now.

To add insult to injury, the UMNO/BN’s Indian mandore syatem of “kosong” and nothing in black and white land here and land there for hindu temples, cemeteries, tamil schools and Indian villages is continuing under the PKR, DAP and PAS said rule.

The UMNO/BN Selangor State government demolished the ancient Kg Karupaiah Padang Jawa hindu temple one week before Deepavali in 2007 and within months lost power in Selangor. But even the now PKR led Selangor state government has not granted a suitable land to rebuild this hindu temple. As usual it is the aforesaid usual ‘kosong’ promise of a land and that too under a hazardous Telecoms Tower mere Tamil newspaper announcement by the Selangor Indian Exco mandore and even than it is not in black and white.

There is a government reserve land next to this Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple. (see The Starmetro 9/11/10 at page M4). But as usual only a temporary piecemeal solution to temporarily relocate part of the temple to the state government reserve land next to this temple has been suggested by that too a mere PKR Councillor mandore despatched to the scene by the Menteri Besar of Selangor.

Why didn’t the PKR led Selangor State government relocate part of this hindu temple to this reserve land and grant land title thereto in the first place, for which there would have been no need nor necessity for this demolishment and self immolation in the first place.

Why these a la UMNO/B.N “temporary” and piecemeal solutions through the their Indian Exco and Councillor mandores. Why not a genuine and permanent land titles and gazetting the same accordingly solution.

On 15th September 2009. (Malaysiakinitoday) a Kampong Buah Pala Villager Madam R. Indirani had similarly attempted to self immolate herself by dousing herself with kerosene when the Penang DAP state government were demolishing Kg. Buah Pala the last traditional Indian village in Penang.

Yesterday’s self immolation by Chakra Guna (52) is only the tip of the iceberg of the Indian poor’s pain suffering and heartache in being denied permanent land for all their Hindu temples cemeteries, Tamil schools and Indian villages (deemed squatters) by especially the PKR, DAP and PAS state governments of Selangor, Penang and Kedah. Why go far? Even this SJK (T) Castlefield and this Srinivasa Perumal temple in issue here has been denied state government land to start off with.

Fear of losing malay muslim votes by granting the Indian poor land cannot possibly be a part of the change PKR, DAP and PAS had promised in the 8th March general elections. So where is the change?

Kindly therefore grant and alienate state land to all existing hindu temples, hindu cemeteries, tamil schools and Indian villages (deemed squatters) in the states of Selangor, Penang and Kedah for there to be a domino effect in the B.N ruled states.

To this effect we urgently seek an appointment with your goodselves to amicably resolve this long outstanding state government land problem to all the poor Malaysian Indians.

Anwar Ibrahim was reported to have recently commented again on Prime Minister Najib's budget, but this time he chose to highlight his personal feelings on the much talked about Teik Jho Low, and his purported links to 1 Malaysia Development Berhad.

Anwar was reported to have said in MalaysiaKini that there was doubts to 1MDB and the strong links between 1MDB and Jho Low, as well as his personal feelings that he 'was not jealous' of Jho Low for his links with Paris Hilton.

Clearly, Anwar Ibrahim has chosen again to hog the limelight with baseless allegations yet again. Jho Low in a 'tell all' interview with The Star had clearly stated that he had nothing to do with 1MDB.

However, this time around the opposition MPs the likes of Tony Pua, Lim Guan Eng, and Anwar had erred big time by repeating lies in order to scuttle, yet again, Prime Minister Najib Razak's roadmap to transform Malaysia.

The most often heard lie, was the much repeated KLIFD and Mubadala agreement. Tian Chua, Batu MP, had made a statement to MalaysiaKini (which was not corrected) that Mubadala had inked an agreement to develop the Sungai Besi airbase, when clearly the agreement was done with regards to the Kuala Lumpur International Financial District, an area covering 35 acres in the fringe of Jalan Imbi, whereas Tian Chua had mentioned the 460 acre airbase instead.

Not only has these irresponsible MPs been stoking the issue with lies, they have also repeatedly misled the rakyat to believe that Jho Low was a big part of the plans, when clearly he wasn't.

To cover these lies, other opposition MP's weighed in on the matter, with Tony Pua misleading the rakyat to believe that the financial reports of 1MDB had included the Sungai Besi land as part of its profits, choosing to ignore the fact that 1MDB's books had closed on 31st March 2010, whereas the land transfer was announced in May 2010.

These are just the few of the much repeated lies that has been churned out by irresponsible opposition MPs in their quest to oust PM Najib from office, and by spreading lies about the larger effort to transform Malaysia, they hope to hoodwink the rakyat to support them to Putrajaya.

The most recent to emerge recently apart from these misleading allegations is the Menara Warisan, which has been proposed by PNB. This time around, they are alleging that Menara Warisan is a government funded project, choosing to ignore the fact that PNB itself is a corporatised body with Amanah Saham holders as the rightful owners.

Unidentified quarters have managed to rile up PAS and DAP in Galas, Kelantan, by questioning again their cooperation despite the differences of ideology between the two partners.

A banner was this morning found hanging in the Gua Musang town area with clearly printed words which screamed: “Why is PAS still supporting DAP (harbi)?”

'Harbi' refers to non-Muslims at war with Muslims.

It also described DAP national chairperson Karpal Singh as one who 'hina perjuangan Islam' (has insulted the Islamic struggle).

The banner quoted Karpal as having said: 'Mau wujudkan negara Islam langkah mayat kami dulu' ("You want to set up an Islamic state, you have to step over our dead bodies first").

The banner was taken down by PAS and DAP workers soon after wind of it had reached their parties operations centre in Gua Musang.

Speaking at a press conference held afterwards, PAS' Galas by-election machinery advisor Wan Abdul Rahim Wan Abdullah and DAP's national publicity secretary Tony Pua condemned the “racist” and “undemocratic” message put up by the parties' detractors.

Rahim said the banner was also against Islamic teachings.

“It is racist when we call someone 'harbi', as 'harbi' signifies open war with Muslims,” the Kota Baru MP said. He described the banner as an attempt to provoke Muslims.

"As the advisor to the PAS (election) machinery, I would like to make it clear here: it is PAS versus Umno. It is not DAP that is contesting in Galas.

"If you want to issue a challenge, please challenge PAS. Say it out loud - what kind of challenge do you want to issue?" said Abdul Rahim.

When asked, Rahim - known as Cikgu Rahim among the local - said he had no idea who was behind the banner, but urged the police to take action.

Pua (left) said although DAP had always been labelled as "anti-Islam" by “irresponsible” parties, the Penang goverment that it leads has put in place policies that belie such accusations.

Islamist party PAS has in the past been criticised for cooperating with DAP given the latter's opposition to the Islamic state - the rallying cry and cornerstone of PAS' ideology.

Raja Petra grills Anwar over pace of reforms

LONDON (Malaysian Insider) - Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was forced to state his case for the support of civil society after maverick blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin, who is a figurehead for various grassroots movements in Malaysia, challenged Pakatan Rakyat (PR) over their commitment to reform.

In a dialogue with Malaysians here yesterday, Raja Petra (picture, second from left), commonly known as RPK on his controversial Malaysia Today website, threatened to pull out from suppporting PR in the upcoming Galas by-election as PR had failed to deliver on promises agreed before the March 2008 elections.

In that historic elections saw the fledgling opposition pact sweep into power in five states and gain 82 seats in Parliament, denying Barisan Nasional (BN) their customary two-thirds majority in the legislative house.

But Anwar pleaded for understanding as many of the reforms could not be implemented without control of federal government and insisted that civil society should help PR come into power so that these reforms could come to past.

Raja Petra said that “prior to March 2008, we sat down for months and formulated the People’s Declaration which was an improved version of an earlier document, Agenda for Change whose author was Anwar himself when he was in prison,” the blogger who is in self-imposed exile in the UK said, referring to the former deputy prime minister’s time in prison after being sacked and then charged with sodomy and abuse of power.

The maverick blogger described how the declaration, which encompasses a wide range of issues from the economy, education, healthcare and politics, was presented to the three parties that make up PR and other opposition parties and claimed that “it was accepted more or less as an election manifesto. Because of that we went to the ground, we campaigned and criss-crossed Malaysia.”

However, he expressed his unhappiness that PR had yet to deliver on the promises in the manifesto despite being in power in several states for over two-and-a-half years. He cited examples such as the lack of newspapers, especially in Malay, by the state governments controlled by PR as it was necessary to fight the media battle leading up to the next general elections.

He compared the pace of reforms to the UK, where the Liberal Democrats only agreed to a coalition government with the Conservatives after being promised wide-ranging reforms would be implemented within two years.

“We have given PR two-and-a-half years but not a single reform has been implemented. Some can be done immediately, some two years, some 20 years. At least let us see some, then we will be quite happy and we will continue to support PR in every by and general election including Galas,” he said.

He said that PR’s huge gains in the elections was due to the support from civil society who were a genuine “third force” and cited examples such as the Bersih and Hindraf rallies in 2007 which championed free and fair elections and lobbied for Indian rights respectively.

Raja Petra reminded PR that “we the people are the boss” and the coalition needed to thrash out issues with civil society if it wanted to form federal government.

But Anwar responded by stating that PR recognised the clamour for change from the electorate and that “our friends in civil society must continue to work with us as a team. We need civil society as we cannot rely on Umno-controlled media.”

However, the PKR de facto leader insisted that the alliance’s hands were tied as much of the power to implement reform were centralised in the federal government.

Nonetheless, the Permatang Pauh MP listed several changes that have been implemented including the replacement of direct tenders with open tenders, a policy he said, had allowed Kedah to reduce quit rent to an amount totalling RM15 million but maintain revenue as it was getting better prices for timber in the state.

He also cited the Freedom of Information bill that was being enacted in Selangor, although it was still subject to the federal-level Official Secrets Act.

Anwar also added that Selangor was in the process of preparing Selangor Kini, a daily newspaper that had a targetted print run in the hundreds of thousands to be distributed to households in Selangor to combat Umno-controlled media especially among the Malay electorate.

Raja Petra also expressed his frustration at the calibre of candidates that PR had run in the last general election and offered “credible and reliable” candidates to run under PR.

He cited the fact that many PR leaders had to run for Parliament and state assembly seats as well as the fact that several legislators had defected or left PR since March 2008, most notably resulting in the BN take over of Perak in early 2009.

Pakatan Rakyat leaders are demanding the strictest action be taken against Perkasa for burning pictures of controversial rapper Namewee and inciting racial tensions outside the Kuala Lumpur-Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, where Namewee was giving a talk to a Youth forum.

“The police should have arrested them immediately. Even for the Teoh Beng Hock vigils, the police simply arrested sympathizers who weren’t do anything rowdy. They just grouped together to light candles in his memory but they still got rounded up and roughed up. Why did the police not give the same treatment to the Perkasa group? Their behavior was violent, they incited fear and should be detained under the Sedition Act,” PKR Youth leader Badrul Hisham Shaharin told Malaysia Chronicle.

The Perkasa-led protest is the latest racially-tinged incident to erupt in Malaysia, where ethnic tensions and polarization has risen to alarming levels due largely to Prime Minister Najib Razak’s weak leadership.

Najib has not been able lead his Umno party away from its traditional use of racism and religious bigotry to cow the non-Malays into submission, thereby allowing Umno to cling to political power.

In fact, the mixed signals that he has been sending has further emboldened ultra-Malay rights groups like Perkasa and the National Civics Bureau (BTN) to increase their extremist speeches and behavior.

Last night, more than 50 Perkasa members gathered outside the KLSCAH, demanding that Namewee come out and show himself to them.

Many wore the exaggeratedly high songkoks or hats that symbolize Malay culture, waved the Malaysian flag and shouted Namewee babi (pig) and pengkhianat (traitor). They then proceeded to burn pictures of Namewee, hurling abuse and creating further commotion.

Although, no one was injured and no one was arrested either despite the blatant incitement.

“This is getting very dangerous. They came after Namewee because they know he is attending a gathering of young people, where the younger participants are more willing to fight back physically. They are trying to crease unrest, maybe even another May 13. Good thing Namewee has a sensible head on his shoulders. If he did not tell the audience to keep calm and ignore the Perkasa taunts, a riot could have easily taken place,” DAP MP for Taiping Nga Kor Ming told Malaysia Chronicle.

The 27-year old Namewee found himself at the centre of a racial storm that many pundits believed had been stirred up by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin in a bid to escape having to take action against two school principals.

The two teachers had hurled racist remarks at their non-Malay pupils and Namewee had produced a three-minute video clip entitled 'Nah', lambasting their actions. Nonetheless, Muhyiddin turned the video clip on Namewee and counter-accused him of being anti-Malay.

Given that Perkasa is widely believed to have the tacit support of Muhyiddin and former premier Mahathir Mohamad, few Malaysians expect the police to take any disciplinary action, although they also said they would not be surprised if the police arrested Namewee instead.

The incident is also a slap in the face for Najib, who on Monday told the United Nations General Assembly in New York to reject extremism and also boasted about his multiracial 1Malaysia plan. Again, given Najib's track record for hypocrisy and inaction, Malaysians expect him to arrest Namewee for extremism rather the Perkasa rabble-rousers.

“Enough is enough. We demand Najib take responsibility. No point going to the UN and making a speech about rejecting extremism when back home he openly supports Perkasa. No point talking about zero-tolerance for racism when the BTN, which is under his department, is indoctrinating the civil service into hating the non-Malays. If Najib fails to act again, he should resign as prime minister. Malaysia deserves better leadership,” Gopeng MP Lee Boon Chye told Malaysia Chronicle.

Embarrassed TV3 yanks out controversial Raya advert

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno-linked TV3 has cancelled a controversial Hari Raya Aidilfitri advertisement and apologised for “hurting the feelings” of its Muslim viewers. Succumbing to angry outbursts from Muslims over Facebooks, TV3 in its main 8pm news bulletin last night apologised to Muslims nationwide.

The controversial advert which incorporated elements of Christianity, Hinduism and Buddhism into the festive commercial came under heavy criticism from Muslims across the nation, including Pakatan Rakyat.

The critics claimed the advertisement, which displayed a flying trishaw, lotus and lamps, would confuse Muslims and youths.

According to edyesdotcom.blogspot, a study of the advert gave the impression that 1Malaysia concept, propounded by Umno and Apco Worldwide, was now 1Religion.

The writer noted that another blog, aulakalimah, had found mirror reflections of fine jawi inscriptions from the Quran and a minaret of a mosque turned into a crucifix.

The revelation, the writer said, raised several questions as to who created, directed and approved the airing of the advert and if Apco Worldwide was in anyway linked to TV3.

Isareli-linked Apco Worldwide is the controversial image consultants hired by the Barisan Nasional government to rebrand the government and country.

Meanwhile, PAS Youth has submitted a memorandum of protest to TV3 management over the airing of the advertisement.

The wave of change was likened to the Tsunami.

And like the Tsunami, it takes the victim by surprise.

Such is the behaviour of Pakatan Rakyat. When it came to power in the few states that were supposed to lead the way in competency, accountability and transparency, they have so far promised much but delivered far less.

I had really high hopes for them in the recent SELCAT inquiry on Kumpulan Semesta (the sand minig concessionaire) but in their findings, it was announced that stakeholders had done no wrong.

In fact, the recent talk around cyberspace is that the media attention by mainstream was all, well a smokescreen!

To blame in on the media is such an easy thing to do these days, isn't it? Banning MSM from covering so called press conferences, as well as to publish unlicensed publications is all a big part of their scheme to promote anarchy.

In Malaysia, as most minerals and deposits would come under the purview of the Jabatan Galian (Minerals and Geoscience Department - Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) which carries a 'To enhance the contribution of the mineral sector to the socio-economic development of the nation through the efficient, responsible and sustainable development as well as the optimum utilisation of mineral resources.' tagline, it would be most difficult to breach the regulations on mining of valuable minerals.

So the next best thing to do is skim the top! Sand!

And given that the previous BN led state government had low yields from taxation in this area, the PR led Selangor government is going to town with their claims that they have collected RM36 million from 'lost revenues' in the taxation from sand mining as opposed to the RM4.5 million under Khir Toyo. Surely in the laws of economic scale, it is an achievement right? But let's look at it objectively, shall we?

In Khir's time, sand mining was not as massive as now under Khalid's rule. As such the RM4.5million vs RM36 million comes with the scale of economy, i.e you allow more to mine, you can collect more in taxation. And in the process for every 10ha approved, another 10ha is provided 'free' with eyes wide shut! Get the picture?

And this is based on the scarring of the wetlands and mining areas, that have resulted in depths of 40metres in some areas of the sand mine. With RM40 per ton as claimed by a TV report , the actual price sold in the open market for finely sift sand is around RM95 per ton!

Apart from the sand issue, the hot topic right now was raised by Sivarasa, MP Subang. Being a trained law professional, one would expect him to understand the requirement of the law, and the very need to respect the law too. Imagine a Malaysia when her law is subjected to the whims and fancy of the citizens!

As such, his claims to the issue of non renewal of printing permits as required under the Printing Presses and Publication act is a non starter.

This is a clear example of an opponent hitting below the belt even before the fight began. In fact the issue here is the delay in renewal of the permit, isn't it? And given the problems that Suara Keadilan has been getting itself into, one would really wonder if the permit was served on a gold platter!

Why?

Has Suara even bothered to check facts when printing? After all, as a responsible paper, shouldn't it report facts? The fact that it got itself into the latest round of controversy is the claim that Felda had gone bankrupt! Surely, a check with the insolvency department can get you the answer!

The invoking of the PP&P act is therefor justified, and if one cares to remember, even MSM publications has had their fair share of suspension and threats of revocation as well! And why should Suara be any different?

Malaysians have much to be thankful for, and the realisation by the current government that it needs the help and support from its neighbours is a good start to lift her up to the next level. What it does not need is anarchist hell bent on leading her down the dark alley, waiting to devour her at the very second it gains control of her!

Remember how organised anarchy have brought sovereign nations to their knees, a very fond tactic of a certain three letter agency that starts with a 'C' and ends with an 'A', 'I' stand between.

Pakatan’s true colours begin to show

Even as the Barisan Nasional is seen climbing down from perceived arrogance to embrace humility, the Pakatan Rakyat coalition has begun to show its insolence, contrary to its message in the run-up to the last general election.

IT took five decades of uninterrupted rule for the Barisan Nasional to develop a sense of invincibility that saw it punished in 2008.

But just two years in power, the Pakatan Rakyat – especially its members DAP and PKR – showed its insolence by trying to scuttle the national-level Chinese New Year celebrations in the second-biggest new village in the country last week.

Pakatan leaders in the state government tried to disrupt celebrations by taking down banners and forced the Barisan to change the venue from Pandamaran by giving various thinly disguised excuses.

These were tactics the Barisan had previously been accused of employing against its opponents, but such moves are no longer seen as smart and are considered petty and an abuse of public power, especially with the changed political landscape of the country.

In the end, the celebration was a resounding success, going by the 40,000-odd people that crowded Jalan Chang Ah Choon, the venue of the event.

Political sources said this was probably the biggest turnout of Chinese for a government-organised function since the March 8 tsunami that saw the majority of Chinese voters siding with the Pakatan.

However, the size of the crowd doesn’t really mean much this days and Barisan leaders agree but say it is a beginning.

“It rained, but the people stayed,” one Barisan leader said, taking heart in that fact.

He explained that the passage of time between March 8 and now was beginning to heal the wounds of the Chinese community, which is angry over its perceived unequal treatment.

“They are beginning to see things in perspective,” he said. “We have to convince them we can do better.”

While one political coalition with a long history behind it is climbing down to humility from perceived arrogance, its rival Pakatan which espoused humility during its climb to power is showing political arrogance and beginning to misuse public power to tarnish and derail its political opponents.

Hardcore Pakatan supporters would approve of these tactics but ordinary Malaysians are in deep fatigue and are averse to Pakatan-style of heavy politicking.

The trappings of power is visible among many Pakatan leaders, the DAP included.

They used to dress in the humble white shirt but today go about smartly dressed in expensive shirts and ties and with an entourage constantly around them.

One of the reasons why the Barisan was punished in 2008 was because it was deemed arrogant in words and deeds — from the famous keris waving incident to temple demolition and liberal use of the pendatang word.

Today, the Barisan Nasional is making amends for its past mistakes.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is actively courting alienated minorities constantly travelling the country meeting people from all ethnic, religious and social groups.

He knows it is a do-or-die battle for the Barisan, whose members, except for Umno and east Malaysian parties, fared poorly in the last polls.

Some of them have yet to recover from the severe beating they received at the polls and remain trapped in their own narrow leadership tussles leaving Najib to carry the extra burden of reviving the fortunes of the Barisan.

The very fact that the Najib and the Barisan leadership went down to hold a mass gathering in a Chinese new village and among ordinary people shows how important is the battle for the people’s hearts and minds.

Najib’s 1Malaysia message in Pandamaran, as elsewhere, was the same – “Yes we made mistakes, we were wrong. But give us a chance, we have learnt our lessons.”

Najib has also been swift to punish his own officers who fail his 1Malaysia mission.

While Najib is gaining political mileage with his people-centred, humanistic policies, there is a need to move beyond sloganeering and public relations to make tangible differences in people’s lives, especially alienated communities, irrespective of race or religion.

The Chinese community is not asking for the sky – just simple, plain fair play, egalitarian policies that treat its culture and language with respect and decorum.

Recognise and respect its contributions to nation building and where possible, leave it alone to manage its own affairs.

Beyond sloganeering and rhetoric ,there is a need for tangible changes that make real differences in the lives of ordinary people.

The younger generation – the generation that really matters – wants to see changes in government policies, institutions and the delivery system, especially a commitment to fairly share national resources with all citizens. - Comment by BARADAN KUPPUSAMY/The Star

Pakatan: The rot sets in

KUALA LUMPUR - The Pakatan Rakyat, of late, has been mired so much in heated internal bickering and mudslinging that the previous black clouds looming over rival coalition Barisan Nasional now seem to be just a pale shade of grey.

Significantly, the problems in Barisan parties like Umno, MCA and PPP, seem to be tapering off while dissension appears to be mounting within PAS, the PKR and the DAP; which make up the Pakatan alliance.

Several months back, some Pakatan pundits were saying that snap elections may be called in Perak soon and general elections for the country may be held within a year - and they were so cock sure their coalition will sweep the board.

Now, they are not so confident that the tsunami that eroded the Barisan's two-third majority in Parliament in 2008 could return to help them defend some of the states they had won at the last polls.

Pakatan moves being watched

Their leaders and their members are aware that the voters who gave them the power to rule are now watching their every move and do not seem to be happy at what they are seeing.

Some key officials of Pakatan components are currently facing the disciplinary boards of their respective parties and the central leadership seems to be at a loss as to how to handle their in-fighting and betrayals.

Accusations, police reports and media statements denouncing each other seem to be the order of the day in Pakatan, worsened by news and views in mainstream media that favour the 1Malaysia administration of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Issues related to religion, royalty and race that Pakatan had tried to champion had not gained the impact they expected because of their own intolerance and decadence.

Thus, it is not surprising that many political observers have started to paint a grim prospect of the Pakatan becoming a formidable political force by the time the next election comes by.

Dr P Sivamurugan, a Universiti Sains Malaysia political science lecturer, told Bernama that Pakatan leaders are increasingly becoming personal in airing their views and at times, even turning against their allies if they are not satisfied with certain issues.

"This shows that the opposition pact is in disarray as it does not have a stable policy to unite the leaders. Because of that, we can see fragility in their relations," he told the news agency.

He added there was a possibility that the bickerings were a diversionary tactic to divert the people's attention from issues affecting their de facto leader, Anwar Ibrahim.

Battling their own demons

He said that each time Anwar's sodomy case was up for hearing in court, various issues would crop up in the opposition pact, and then Anwar would heroically emerge to cool things down.

Commenting on the crises, Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said the feedback she was getting from the womenfolk on the ground is that even those with no political interest or other insidious agenda are feeling betrayed by the votes they gave to the opposition in the 2008 election.

"Clearly the states of Penang, Selangor, Kedah and Kelantan are battling their own demons and their inability and failure to govern.

"Their weakness in administering the states with no plans nor positive outcomes has put the rakyat's fate and future in jeopardy," she said in a statement here Monday.

Shahrizat alleged the Pakatan pact is breaking every rule and principle they had "rhetorically expounded so loftily during the last election."

"It's a pity. The nation and the rakyat are becoming the victims of Pakatan," she added.

Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan said the Barisan is prepared to accept leaders and members of the Pakatan who are disillusioned with their parties' struggles,

"I urge those who are no longer in agreement with the opposition to leave those parties and join Umno," he told reporters in Kuantan on Sunday.

Ahmad, who is a deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department, denied, however, that Umno and the Barisan had anything to do with what was happening in Pakatan.

Warning of BN ploys

Anwar, however, is not about to take the attacks on his coalition lying down.

And he has warned his members of certain ploys by the Barisan to break up the Pakatan and lure away disgruntled members with various 'offers.'

This follows a claim by Indera Mahkota MP Azan Ismail (right) that Umno and the Penang-based Parti Cinta Malaysia had made overtures for him to leave the PKR and join them.

Azan, who last week resigned as Pahang PKR deputy chairman, had allegedly named former Cabinet member Dr Jamaludin Jarjis and PCM leader Huan Cheng Guan as the ones who had made 'offers' for him to desert the PKR.

"As informed by Azan, there had been attempts to instigate and bribe him into leaving the PKR and the Pakatan.

"He (Azan) had also shown me the SMSes sent by these people stating their objective," Anwar said after a meeting of the Pakatan leadership council at the PKR head office here on Sunday.

Thanking Azan for the feedback, he said it was proof that the Barisan was trying to 'buy over' Pakatan MPs.

"We understand the modus operandi of these people, who would resort to immoral means to create problems within Pakatan.

"Therefore, I would like to advise all my friends in Pakatan, to be cautious about this grand 'buying spree' before the Chinese New Year."

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak lashed out today at Pakatan Rakyat for alleging that the arsonists involved in the Metro Tabernacle Church attack were Umno members.

Responding to a question from a reporter during a press conference after the Umno Supreme Council meeting, Najib appeared to be on the defensive as he dismissed the claims as merely another tactic by the opposition to win support.

“This point has already been answered by top Umno officials. This is what the opposition always does,” said Najib to a chorus of applause from Umno leaders present at the press conference.

The prime minister’s remarks comes amid accusations by some PR leaders claiming to have knowledge and evidence of Umno’s “hand” in the recent attack on the church which left its first floor completely gutted.

PKR vice-president Azmin Ali has claimed that at least four Umno members were involved in the arson attack on the Metro Tabernacle Church.

PAS’s HarakahDaily website quoted Azmin as saying that he was collecting evidence to back up his claims and would release it soon.

The Gombak MP had claimed that at least four of the eight remanded over the Jan 8 attack are Umno members from the Gombak and Ampang divisions, adding he would reveal the full names, Mykad numbers and Umno membership numbers of those involved as soon as possible.

“The opposition has to always blame Umno. This is their modus operandi (MO),” said Najib today in response to the claims.

Three dispatch riders were charged in the Sessions Court today for the recent firebombing of the Metro Tabernacle Church, and could face up to 20 years in prison.

The three were brothers Raja Muhammad Faizal Raja Ibrahim, 24; Raja Muhammad Idzham Raja Ibrahim, 22; and another 23-year-old, Azuwan Shah Ahmad.

They were charged under Section 436 of the Penal Code, for the offence of “mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy a building.”

All three claimed trial and the date of mention has been set for March 12.

A total of eight men had originally been detained in connection with the arson attack at the Metro Tabernacle Church here on Jan 8.

Besides the eight, police have also detained seven other men over the recent arson attempt at Taiping’s historic All Saints’ Church and the town’s Convent School.

The attacks are believed to be linked to the controversial “Allah” ruling that has riled many Muslims.

Four other men were also picked up for arson attempts on two mosques in Muar.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said this week he believed the attacks against churches, a temple and now mosques appeared to be aimed at sparking racial and religious strife.

Boar heads were reportedly found at two mosques near here, earlier this week, following the fire-bombing attacks and acts of vandalism against churches and a Sikh temple that had taken place in the wake of the “Allah” controversy.

These latest acts could be construed as attempts to escalate tensions and provoke unrest between Muslims and non-Muslims, as pigs are considered unhygienic in Islam and therefore their presence in the mosques were acts of desecration.

Ong wants Pakatan to stop pointing fingers

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 – The MCA president today asked Pakatan Rakyat (PR) to stop blaming the Umno-led Barisan Nasional (BN) for the Church attacks.

Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat stressed that everybody must let the police handle the current situation.

“I must say that at this juncture since we are all aware that this has been handled by the police, why not we leave it to the police to conduct their work professionally rather than jumping onto the bandwagon by accusing others,” he told reporters at MCA headquarters here.

Thus far, there have been seven attacks against churches over three days.

Petrol bombs were also found at a convent school in Taiping earlier today.

He also urged all Malaysians to not make statements that could incite hate.

“I think it is not just Umno or anybody but rather it applies to all Malaysians and I presume that the overwhelming majority of Malaysians, who are rational, love this country, treasure the existing racial and religious harmony.

“We would certainly be supportive of whatever efforts or initiative designed to enhance our integration and harmony,” he said.

PR has been blaming Umno for raising the mercury in the “Allah” issue .

Ong added that there is “no room for any despicable attacks” in the country.

“There is no room for any despicable attacks that was mentioned earlier. There is no room for that. Nobody in their right state of mind would condone that kind of despicable deeds,” he said.

SHAH ALAM - A group of Selangor residents wants PAS to withdraw from the tripartite pact with the DAP and PKR, saying the two parties were deceiving and neglecting PAS in the state’s decision-making.

While the group claimed they are PAS members, party insiders believe they are Umno supporters out to destablise the Pakatan Rakyat administration in Selangor.

Group spokesman Wan Hilman Abdul Rahim, who said he is from the PAS Gombak division, said they will be submitting a memorandum to Selangor PAS chief Hassan Ali (pic), who is also a state executive councillor,on Monday.

Grievances against alliance

The memorandum spells out their grievances against the Pakatan Rakyat adminiustration in Selangor.

"We feel PAS is being deceived and neglected in the decision-making process. We are not happy with the way the Selangor government takes care of Islamic interests and the people, especially the Malays,” said Wan Hilman.

The group of about 20 people held a peaceful demonstration outside the Selangor PAS office here Sunday.

“We want PAS to review its position in the Pakatan pact in Selangor," he told reporters at the scene.

He denied their action was ‘orchestrated’ by either Selangor Umno or PKR advisor Anwar Ibrahim.

'Don't accept memo'

It is learnt that in the past few days an SMS was being circulated to urge the Malays in Selangor to take part in the anti-Pakatan protest.

A PAS official who received the SMS said he traced the source of the phone message to an Umno leader.

Commenting on the matter, PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub said the party was not connected to the group. He alleged it was formed to belittle the party.

"I do not know them. The group does not come under us (PAS), and this is all slanderous," he said when contacted by Bernama.

Salahuddin, the Kubang Kerian MP, said PAS will study the issue before considering whether ornot to sue the group. "We will look into that (legal action) later. Let things be for now," he said.

Meanwhile, a pro-PAS blogger, bongkarsauh, urged Hassan not to accept the memorandum.

To accept the memorandum would mean going against the fellowship principle of the Pakatan, the blogger said.

New state govt in January?

“An important stand has to be made. This is not the time to show goodness, be friendly, be open minded..and what else...with those who have devious intentions,” the blogger added.

In another development, blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin (pic) said Umno leaders was spreading the word within the various state government agencies that the Barisan Nasional is set to take over the Selangor government in January.

“Following this, state agencies that are still led by Umno supporters are not functioning as they should,” he said, adding that these agencies were waiting to see if this prediction would come true. – Malaysian Mirror
