You're Chinese chauvinists, Khir Toyol tells MCA comrades

The 25 million ringgit man , hello MACC when happen to your investigations ?

By Syed Jaymal Zahiid and Rahmah Ghazali

VIDEO INSIDE SHAH ALAM: Selangor Umno opposition chief Dr Mohd Khir Toyo today claimed that some of his comrades from MCA are supporting the DAP and blasted them as "Chinese chauvinists".

The former menteri besar said this is evident when some MCA leaders praised the Pakatan Rakyat-led Selangor government for the move to appoint a Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblyman as the chairman of the state's Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

Current Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim claimed the decision reflected his administration's check-and-balance initiative and is in line with the practices of developed democracy.

But Khir is not impressed. While chastising Khalid's decision as "insincere", the Sungai Panjang assemblyman had set his guns on certain MCA leaders whom he felt were betraying their own coalition by supporting their rival's policy.

The Selangor PAC comprises seven members, with five from Pakatan and two from BN. Khir said the latter could only play the role of "yes-men" despite the PAC being chaired by the BN.

"If you are put in that position, what can you do really? It's something funny. This decision (to appoint a BN rep as PAC head) is aimed at making a fool out of us. If you want check and balance, give us more numbers, give us the majority. Only then the chairman has power," he told FMT in an interview.

"This is why sometimes I see some of the Selangor MCA leaders are supporting the DAP because they are chauvinists," he added.

Khalid a DAP puppet?

The DAP has long been the target of attacks by Khir and his supporters who accused the predominantly Chinese party of racial politics. For Khir, elements in the MCA supporting the DAP are racists.

Khir has used the race card to tarnish the state government by claiming that Khalid is a puppet of the DAP, implying that the nation's richest state is under Chinese control.

"If MCA leaders support the DAP, they are chauvinists because the DAP is a chauvinist party. No one can deny that. In the party's constitution, the DAP makes no mention of the Malays, Islam or the Indians. Although the party was started by an Indian, it remains a Chinese chauvinist party," said Khir.

Khir has been at the forefront in leading the BN's assault against Khalid's government, often playing up Malay sentiments to galvanise support as the BN aims to recapture the nation's goldmine by the next general election.

BN's chances remain 50-50

Khir said BN's chances, despite having BN supremo and Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak himself overseeing efforts to regain Selangor, remains "50-50" in the next general election.

He admitted that despite Umno's strong communal politicking, it still needs non-Malay support to turn its quest into reality.

"To win Selangor, you cannot depend on Malays only. Malays consist only of 50% to 60% in one or two parliamentary constituencies, the rest is below 50%. We still need the Indian and Chinese votes. Otherwise we cannot win," he said.

Despite the conspicuous racial politicking on Umno's side, Khir insisted that the non-Malay votes are returning and urged BN to "change its ways" to regain lost support through a more hands-on approach to politics.

"The Malays and Indians are returning to BN due to a few issues. The Chinese have refused to come back. But they will if BN changes its ways. We cannot be like before. We must go down to the ground more often. That's what our prime minister wants".

Khir Toyo, what's your vision?

I REFER to the report in which former Selangor menteri besar Mohd Khir Toyo said that the Chinese voters are not receptive to the 1Malaysia concept and the NEM. He shallowly, as reported, goes on to say that rather than [Chinese voters] supporting the power sharing concept of BN, they are more inclined to increase their political might in Selangor through Pakatan.

For starters, let me say that his analysis that only zeroed in on the Chinese electorate is nothing less than flawed, ignorant and shameful. Khir Toyo must not use his brand of racial politics and extrapolate them on the way the people vote. Further, why did Khir single out the Chinese only? How about the Malays and Indians who voted for PKR?

I shall, for the sake of keeping this letter in context, articulate specifically to Khir's comments on the Chinese. Intrinsically, he refers to the Chinese electorate as if they are not deserving of anything from the BN government. For every school built for them, Khir tells them that they should be grateful for it. Schools, clinics and roads are the very basic needs of the people. The rakyat should not beg for it and then later told to be grateful for it. It is the government's duty to provide it. The rakyat asking for it is not and will never be beggars!

Let me posit an answer for Khir on why he is no longer and should never be MB again. If Khir practised a rakyat-oriented approach to governance, if Khir prioritized transparency and resisted the temptation of corruption and fighting it, he would still be MB.

mohd-khir-toyoShould the above suggestions be practised, building schools, roads and liberalizing sectors in the economy would be automatic without having the electorate make pitiful pleas for it.

The truth for Malaysia is that when it comes to the country's governance, race will definitely play a part. It is how you deal will it tactfully that matters. The concept of power sharing in BN is outdated and yet Khir wants voters to accept it out of gratefulness. Additionally, Khir's grasp of politics in Malaysia baffles me. It seems to me that he is telling the electorate what kind of issues they should or should not be concerned about.

If he is a true politician, Khir would address the electorate's concerns and not ask the electorate to be concerned about his worries! Khir should do what the rakyat tells him to do. Not the other way around!

From what I see, Khir still harbours hope of being MB again. The platform in which he wants to propel himself back to Shah Alam is through 1Malaysia hence his half-baked attempt to promote it. Let me point out and prove this.

I want to draw the readers' attention to the 8 Values of 1Malaysia. Amongst others include "Acceptance". I quote PM Najib in a video interview in which he explains that 1Malaysia "Acceptance" as:

"...a state of mind that you are embracing something positively. It is important for us now to migrate from this concept of mere tolerance to acceptance. Acceptance in the sense that you are ready to accept things because if you are willing to accept things and embrace things willingly, then your capacity to look at things in a more positive manner is much, much better than mere tolerance. I think that's important then it you don't have any baggage and you are not weighed down by any negative, preconceived notions and you are willing to look at the best that person can offer..."

Khir should not be a hypocrite of 1Malaysia and should go and practice the 8 Values his party promotes before he tries to preach it to the rakyat. Should Khir do so, he will learn to accept that BN's 1Malaysia will allow the rakyat regardless of race to choose who they want to vote for. In choosing who the rakyat wants to vote for, they should not be harassed on why they vote the way they did.

Further, he should also note that he has a lot of baggage from his once powerful past and is not weigh down by negative preconceived notions. Remember his huge mansion? What can the rakyat look in you to offer? Asking us for gratitude perhaps?

Politicians like Khir Toyo sums up BN and its warlords. Well meaning policies, lousy and skewered execution. I am afraid that in the end, if Khir Toyo really aspires to be MB again, he will have to get his own policies sorted out and his party sorted out, and offer a vision for the country's future, not a vision that would take us backwards.

Khir gives thumbs up to 'Zaid and booze' strategy

I have to really sympathise with Zaid , especially with the Horse ownership issue which Tunku in his younger days were also seen with horse racing .

Imagine drinking in his younger days while studying in England are being made into a hot issue , and he's not even the President of a Political Party , what not with with a tainted President of the BN's second largest component party .

What would the opposition do if he the tainted President were to contest as a candidate and with so much material available in the public domain , in cyberspace , in You Tube ?

Where am I going to hide my face for that matter ?

No wonder he is NOT around to help out in the campaigning . Heard he has been told to make himself disappear by the top man until the bye elections are over , otherwise BN is going to lose .

Even then , with him NOT around , the Chinese press has been reporting that they are also making mince meat outta him .....!

So I am told he has decided to take a holiday , maybe in Koh Samui or in some exotic places where he can do his thing without having to worry about being arrested .

Former Selangor Umno liaison chief Dr Mohd Khir Toyo believes that the repeated attacks on PKR Hulu Selangor by-election candidate Zaid Ibrahim's past as a drinker was a good campaign strategy.

The move to highlight Zaid's admission that he used to consumed alcohol in his younger days was a way to discourage PAS' grassroots from supporting the former minister, said Khir.
