Why don't you Indonesians also protests when your maids murder Malaysians ?

Indonesian maid wanted for murder arrested at job interview

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3, 2010 (AFP) – An Indonesian maid who went on the run after being accused of murdering her Malaysian employer's baby son has been arrested after coolly lining up an interview for a new job, police said Friday.

Police have been hunting for the 25-year-old woman, from Java in Indonesia, after the 15-month-old boy died last week and a post-mortem examination indicated foul play.

She was arrested after approaching a family in suburban Kuala Lumpur asking for a job. They recognised her from her picture in the newspaper and alerted police, Ampang district police chief Abdul Jalil Hassan told AFP.

"She went to one of the houses, carrying a plastic bag with some clothes and was asking for a job," Abdul Jalil said.

"She told the family that she ran away from her employer as she could no longer work with them."

"The family noticed she looked similar to the suspect wanted by police in connection to the baby murder case and alerted us. We went to the house and detained the woman," he said.

Malaysia is one of Asia's largest importers of labour and depends heavily on domestic workers, who come mainly from Indonesia.

There are no laws governing their working conditions, and cases of abuse, non-payment and even murder of domestic workers are much more common than incidents of maids committing crimes.

In the death of the baby boy, the maid reportedly telephoned her employer and told him that he had fallen ill and was unconscious.

A report from the post-mortem examination showed the baby had strangulation marks on his neck, and had suffered internal brain haemorrhage and bruises believed to be from being kicked or stepped on, the Star newspaper reported.

The maid faces a death penalty if charged and convicted of murder.

Abused Indonesian Maid Jailed For Murdering Malaysian Boss

Kuala Lumpur. A Malaysian court sentenced an Indonesian woman to 15 years in jail for killing her employer after being verbally and physically abused, a news report said Thursday.

Indah Wijayanti, 23, slit 41-year-old Kek Huey Lian’s throat with a knife in July 2007. She had worked for her for more than a year, the New Straits Times said.

Wijayanti had been using the knife to clean a fish when Kek allegedly scolded her and threw a paper plate at the maid. She fled to a neighbor's house after killing her employer, the court was told.

Wijayanti’s lawyer said the young woman had been verbally and physically abused while working for Kek, adding that she had “snapped” during the incident.

The judge ordered Wijayanti, who pleaded guilty to culpable homicide resulting in death, to serve the 15-year sentence from the date of her arrest in July 2007.

Malaysia is home to more than 320,000 foreign maids, some 85 percent of them from Indonesia.

JAKARTA: About 500 angry Indonesians staged a motorbike protest outside the Malaysian ambassador's residence in Jakarta on Wednesday to condemn the abuse of Indonesian maids by Malaysian employers.

Incensed by the latest case of rape and torture of an Indonesian domestic worker in Malaysia, protesters besieged Ambassador Syed Munshe Afdzaruddin's house and demanded he leave Indonesia within two days.

They also threatened to roam through a nearby shopping mall and order any Malaysian they find to go back to their country.

"We want the Malaysian ambassador to leave Indonesia in two days. If he doesn't, we'll remove all the things in his house," said Mustar Bonaventura, of nationalist youth group Bendera, which organised the rally.

"Malaysia has really gone too far. Again they're torturing and raping our domestic workers. We've lost our patience. They've degraded Indonesia and its citizens."

Protesters shouted "Malaysians are insolent," sang the Indonesian anthem and carried banners with messages like "Crush Malaysia".

Organisers said they would move to the Malaysian embassy later Wednesday to continue their demonstration, and target Malaysian shoppers.

"We'll tell the Malaysian shoppers in Senayan City mall to stop shopping in Indonesia and get out. But we'll tell them nicely because we're not like those Malaysians who are torturers and rapists," Bonaventura said.

Spats regularly erupt between Indonesia and Malaysia over an array of issues, particularly Malaysia's treatment of the some two million Indonesians who work there.

Malaysia earlier Wednesday condemned the abuse of Indonesian maids after a 26-year-old woman was raped and scalded with an iron by her employers. The couple accused of abusing the woman have been arrested.

In June last year Indonesia barred domestic workers going to Malaysia after a series of incidents of shocking mistreatment, but the move has had little practical effect.

Malaysia and Indonesia have been working to establish official working conditions for maids, but negotiations are making slow progress due to disagreement over a proposed minimum wage.

GEORGE TOWN:
The Indonesian maid who was allegedly raped and abused repeatedly by her employers has expressed relief knowing that the couple is now under police custody.

Win Faidaa, 26, who is currently seeking treatment at Penang Hospital, was happy when informed by Consul-General of Indonesia to Penang, Chilman Arisman, that her employers -- a 41-year-old contractor and his 36-year-old wife -- had been detained by police.

"She is very happy to learn that justice has been served. I could sense her enthusiasm during our conversation... she kept asking me details about the arrests," Chilman told the New Straits Times at the hospital where Win is warded.

Win is currently placed in an isolated room and only selected people, including the police and consulate officials, can visit her.

Pressmen have been barred from entering the room.

Chilman said Win was slowly recovering from her trauma and the physical wounds.

He said it was the consulate which had assisted police to identify Win as she does not have any personal documentation with her, including her passport.

"We had to call our headquarters in Jakarta to trace her personal records," he said.

The 26-year-old, who hails from East Java, was found loitering by the roadside in Nibong Tebal on Sunday with blood dripping from her wounds.

Her employers had apparently abandoned her there.

Her breasts were scalded by a hot iron and her entire back was splashed with boiling water.

Win's head was clobbered with a hard object and her limbs whipped with a waist belt. She was also turned into a sex slave.

Win, who claimed that the couple had abused her since May, was rescued by a good Samaritan.

Later in the day, state police chief Datuk Ayub Yaakob also visited Win at the hospital.

Win, who is in high spirits, was seen wiping away tears when Ayub consoled her and advised her to be strong to overcome her trauma.

Speaking later, Ayub said police would expedite their investigations into the case.

"We have recorded statements from a few key individuals. However, we need more information before we can wrap up this case," he said, adding that among others, police needed more details about the background of the couple.

He added that besides abuse and rape, police were also looking into charging the couple for human exploitation.

Ayub said police were also investigating how the couple could employ the maid since one of them had a criminal record, and whether the maid was employed legally.

Meanwhile, Ayub said the doctor attending to Win confirmed that she was only suffering from external injuries.
