Closure of entrances to Komtar slammed
GEORGE TOWN: The new security measures at Komtar benefits only one man – Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng – but have affected the livelihood of many traders in the building, said Penang MCA vice-chairman Tang Heap Seng.
He said the closure of five entrances into the original shopping area of Komtar including the Level 2 car park on Aug 3 had caused a drastic drop in revenue for the traders.
The measures were adopted by the company managing Komtar after a man rapped Lim on the shoulder at the car park a day earlier.
“If Lim is bothered about his safety, he should instruct the state CPO Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Ayub Yaakob to increase the number of bodyguards.
“The state should not block the way for shoppers or those who wish to patronise food outlets,” said Tang after leading three state MCA members to visit food kiosk operator Teoh Bak Seng, popularly known as “Komtar Seng”, at his flat in Batu Lanchang.
The others were New Komtar branch head Lim Cheng Hee, former Komtar assemblyman Datuk Lim Gim Soon and Komtar service centre chief co-ordinator Lim Thoon Deong.
On Tuesday, Teoh, 53, doused himself with petrol in Komtar to protest against the closure of the entrances leading to the VIP car park.
He claimed the closure had affected his livelihood by 50%.
Tang said Komtar was not only the state administrative centre but also a shopping area with hundreds of retailers, food operators and small scale businesses, adding that the state government had failed to redevelop Komtar even after promising to do so.

Human BBQ Anyone?
Human BBQ ?? Do these people ever have feelings for one's misery ? And yet they claim to be very religious and pious .By Admin
A 53-year-old coffeeshop owner doused himself with petrol in an attempt to commit suicide outside the Komtar building here, which houses Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's office. The man, identified as Teoh Bak Seng, was upset that several doors on the second floor had been closed to prevent public access due to security reasons.
Prior to that, Teoh had staged a lone protest with placards condemning the decision.
But when police officers attempted to pacify him, the businessman doused himself with petrol, and shouted: “Saya mahu bunuh diri” (I want to kill myself).
What's really amusing here is that Teoh came with gasoline but apparently 'forgot' to bring along a match that would have satisfied the shutterbugs (see pic above) and the spectators who wanted to see a Human BBQ. One can understand the predicament Teoh is in, but the manner he went about it can only be deduced as a publicity stunt which has the signature of BN/Umno on it to discredit the Pakatan Rakyat Government of Penang.
Do you really believe that Malaysians are so sadistic that they would allow him to torch himself? Maybe, someone should have thrown him a lighter (Sorry for the punt. I just can't help it).
One person bath himself in the Kerosine, J4, and you jump for joy as it hit CM LGE. How about more than 50,000 BERSIH marching???
ReplyDeleteStupid incompetent man. He must have been influenced by J4 or some other MCA bums.
