Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today defended the appointment of Labis MP Chua Tee Yong as deputy agriculture and agro-based industries minister.
Najib said that he had screened through a list of potential appointees and found that Tee Yong had fulfilled the criteria to fill the post.
“We went through the list, and it doesn't matter that his father is the president (of MCA),” said the premier after his walkabout in SS2, Petaling Jaya (above).
“One has to be a responsible member of the administration, and support and strengthen government policy... I am confident in his ability,” he added.
Press further, Najib said that an individual's ability was the main criteria and not age, citing his own experience.

Anonymous: I believe MCA has more experienced leaders than Chua Tee Yong. It's the same as MIC - S Samy Vellu and Vell Paari. Dr Chua Soi Lek, are you sure about there being no other candidate available? If you like to seek revenge against the people that have sabotaged you, well, this is not the way. Don't turn MCA into another MIC.
Multi Racial: If it is based on merit, why was Tee Yong not chosen in the first place after the general election? After all, his qualifications and experience remain the same.
The truth is that Chua's son was chosen because Chua with his tainted background is not suitable to be in the cabinet. It was a compromise. Anyway, I would rather have Chua's son be appointed a minister than some of those other jokers who were appointed ministers, especially those with integrity and credibility issues.
I feel sorry for Ong Tee Keat. Firstly, he was screwed by his loyalists. Then he was screwed by his party. Now he's screwed by the MCA president and PM.
Lim Chong Leong: So what is his track record and qualifications that make him such a suitable candidate for deputy minister post, other than the qualification of 'anak bapak'? Please, Najib, do explain. Otherwise, it smells of wheeling and dealing and you are compromising cabinet positions for your political survival.
Jamal: Does that mean Khairy Jamaluddin doesn't fulfill the criteria at all to fill the post of a deputy minister? Khairy you might as well just quit. The powers-that-be see you as being good only at being a glorified Oxford Rempit, screaming in front of the US embassy.
Fence-sitter: Tee Keat is much more capable than this greenhorn Tee Yong, but he was dropped. OTK is more acceptable to the rakyat as he is a leader that dared to speak up. What PM means by 'qualification' is that you must toe the line and be a yes-man.
Tell the Truth: It is obvious that the PM wants to make sure that Chua Soi Lek does not talk too much or criticise him too much, or else his son gets it. Now the rakyat can hear less of the MCA 'porn star' to ensure his son's position is not jeopardised. Good theory, yah?

This show that politicians don't trust other people to work with, only relatives. Is this the situation in Malaysia that we can't find anyone trustworthy at all? If the laws (against nepotism) were strong, maybe things could be different.

If you want OTK to be Minister & President, get it right by getting him elected fair and square.
hence, stop being sour and start planning how to get OTK's ass up the president seat, so that he can represent Malaysian or "Malaysian Chinese" by being a Minister/President.
Don't harp about things that can't be undone, work it out, by hook or by crook. If OTK doesnt want to get dirty with his own hands, get someone else to get dirty.
i believe die hard fans are willingly or stupidly want OTK to be their leader.

No amount of explanation by CSL or Najib will be accepted. It is morally wrong. But CSl do not have the morality to understand it is wrong. Since he do the 1st, we will do the 15th. We show MCA in the next election.

The problem in this country is that all netizens talk like they themselves can be the Prime Minister or Minsiter. Everything the PM does must please the netizen, but sure enough it would never please them as a whole bcos netizens are generally pro-opposition.
A few netizens criss-crossing to post comments means that netizens have a lot of support. They are more than qualified to be PM and MInsiter already bcos they can comment and write a few lines in the blog. So easy meh ?

The last 308 Tsunami leaving 15 , despite various attempts to prevent tainted president comes into power failed, the latest two by-election resulting loss of many Chinese voters. Unless those idiot thinking BN could win back the seats by preventing J4 or OTK retained as minister, I could not understand the new ideology in the politic happens in MCA. What MCA still can contribute to Chinese now ? MCA still not aware what Chinese needs. Chinese want a good leader and fair position in this country. If this kind of public opinion regarded as anti-BN or PM or Armor, so next GE will set a TOMB for MCA. MCA should not hold the stake of Chinese as his own property.Chinese has full right to vote for opposition at what ever cost rather than extravagant by the Chua Dynasty in MCA.

People like the chinese education group Dong Jiao Zong has been scolding MCA ever since merdeka. MCA has been very patience with these people. I think time already up, let settle the problem come next GE. If MCA could carry on, then OK, otherwise just dissolve the pary.
