Kedah MCA chief gets a tongue-lashing for fibbing
By FMT Staff
ALOR SETAR: State MCA chief Chong Itt Chew was given a tongue-lashing for claiming that a major factory in the Kulim High-Technology Park had moved its operations overseas.
Pakatan Rakyat state councillor Amiruddin Hamzah said there was no truth in Chong's claim that Fuji Electric had shifted its operations to the Philippines.
“Fuji Electric is still operating in the Kulim High-Technology Park. It has not shifted its base to the Philippines and has not laid off 2,000 workers as alleged.
“It is a malicious lie by the MCA chief. His claims are baseless and aimed at discrediting the Pakatan state government,“ he said.
Amiruddin, who is also Anak Bukit assemblyman, said the factory too was upset with Chong’s statement.
“The company has made it known that if such false information continues to be disseminated, it will not hesitate to act against those involved.
“I want to stress that up till this time, no factories have shut down or moved out of the Kulim High-Technology Park.
“There are 50 factories operating here with a combined investment of RM24 billion and employing 16,000 people,” he said.
Amiruddin added that in the first two months of 2010, two new investors have moved to the industrial park.
“Their investments are worth RM1.529 billion and will create 1,382 additional jobs,” he said.
