The police today quizzed DAP parliamentarian M Manogaran with regards to his speech where he linked Umno to the attacks on places of worship and commented on Anwar's sodomy trial.
The Teluk Intan MP's statement was recorded at the Setapak district police headquarters this afternoon under Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act.
Contacted later, Manogaran said he was informed that a police officer had filed a report against him in Teluk Intan over his remarks.
"The session took about one hour and I was asked 20 questions with regards to the contents of the speech," he added.
However, he stressed that he had exercised his right to remain silent during the session.
"I will only give my statement in court if I am charged," he said.
Manogaran claimed that he had asked the police officer for a recording of his speech but the officer did not have it.
Issues of national importance
His lawyer N Surendran claimed that his client's speech was not seditious, and that he had merely touched on issues of national importance.
"I believe that my client was making fair comments about Anwar's trial and Umno's possible involvement in the churches attack," he said.
The had delivered the speech at a ceramah in Teluk Intan on Jan 22, which was attended by several PKR leaders, including Anwar Ibrahim.
