Authorities to net PKFZ 'big fish'
Chinese dailies Nanyang Siang Pau and China Press have fingered Bintulu MP Tiong King Sing as the next person likely to be brought to book over the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal.
Both the sister dailies featured articles on their front pages alluding to this.
According to Nanyang, "reliable sources" told the paper that "action" would be taken against Tiong without any specifics.
China Press on the other hand said that a 'big fish' of high social standing would be held today but did not name the person.
However, the China Press report carried a large silhouette image which bore a striking resemblance to the stocky Tiong.
Tiong currently oversees
Checks by Malaysiakini revealed that Tiong - a business tycoon from Sarawak - is overseas and it is uncertain when he will return.
Since last Thursday, four people have been charged in connection with the troubled PKFZ project, and Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail promised that more would be hauled up.
This led to speculation that Tiong and former transport minister Chan Kong Choy would have to face the music.
Tiong is a major stakeholder in two companies Wijaya Baru Global Bhd and Wijaya Baru Holdings Sdn Bhd, which own PKFZ turnkey developer Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd.
Chan is said to have breached laws during his tenure by issuing several letters of support, without the Treasury's permission, to help
Recently PKA Chairman reported that the turnkey developer for PKFZ have overcharged an amount exceeding RM1.64 billion. In modern times one wonders how is it possible to overcharge such a huge sum. These are tax payers money. Yet until today other than OTK who is busy unwinding PKFZ case, we don't see other MCA leaders commenting on this issue. They presumably are more interested in scrambling for positions.
ReplyDeleteOther MCA leaders are trying to protect Tiong. They are trying to protect their ATM.
ReplyDeleteAnd I think the burung Tiong had fly away. He will not come back.
It is so easy to cheat payment from Govt depts.
ReplyDeleteThat's why we read from press reports that a Govt dept bought a laptop for RM28,000, and other scandalous procurement....
Likewise, to get payment of huge sum from MOF/Treasury, you only need some big shots in the dept to approve.
In PKFZ, the approving authorities is the Minister of Finance=PM [ we are talking about the period BEFORE NAJIB ].
To make the claims, the developer of the PKFZ had to submit a lot of documents, including reports certified by the professionals, and the info contained therein is so complex that no Govt officer would have time to read/understand. So these senior Govt officer merely looked at the approving "signatures" of the big shots--for eg, PAK LAH'S signature....
Very often, the big shots' secretary/secretaries would follow up on behalf of the developer--by calling the MOF...to hurry up/issue cheques....
The procedure is the same with the bank: when a developer submitted the certification issued by an architech (to state that certain parts of the house had been done), the bank (which had loan agreement with house buyers)simply remit the payment to the developer --without checking whether the certification is genuine or not....
THIS IS ALL HUMAN NEGLIGENCE!
So, in PKFZ's case, after the developer gets the 400mil-500mil payment from MOF each time, the kickbacks/ang pao/commissions/political donations...would be remitted to ALL persons/parties who had helped....
This practice happened in the past everywhere, including the private sector. (Eg., bank managers who approve business loans also get kickbacks from the borrowers....)
Nobody expose it because every party has got business to do and is succeesful....
But PKFZ turned out to be a failure....
Some people are unlucky onylah....

FIRE MONKEY
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right. Do you notice that during the PKFZ crisis, our Youth leader has never said a single word in support of OTK because he was also a beneficiary of the project by being a consultant to TKS doing the environmental and traffic flow studies. This could one of the reason why he wants OTK to be ousted so that the PKFZ scandal can be closed.
It will be a slight slap on the hand. No big deal.
ReplyDeletePlease do not generalize al. Even if Youth leader was the consultant for traffic flow (not verified)one can not be faulted for that. If not the Youth LEader (again, not verified) some one has to do the consultacy job. those linked to KDSB can not be generalised as complices. This is ot fair and not the attitute or charactor of bloggers, especially thoes frequent this blog.

ReplyDeleteIt is very easy to criticize others without looking at your innerself. I believe many bloggers are nice people who do not want to discredit a person as though that person is not worth a sen. Bloggers always give some 'face' to anybody for that matter.
As regards to your comment on the Youth Leader
maybe you have very high regard of him. You may want to know more of him in MALAYSIA TODAY ARTICLE ON 29 OCT.2009 ENTITLED - WEE KA SIONG - THE MISSING LINK IN THE PKFZ-MCA CRISIS DEBACLE.
