DPM: Action shows Govt is transparent

MALACCA: The charging of three people over the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) issue showed the Government’s stand on transparency and bringing to book those who flouted the law, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.

The Deputy Prime Minister said action could be taken against any individual if the authorities or the Attorney-General found evidence of wrongdoings.

“This shows our stance on the PKFZ issue is transparent, as stated by the Prime Minister,’’ he told reporters after opening the One District One Industry (SDSI) Showcase 2009 here yesterday.

He added that the decision to charge those in connection with the issue also dispelled the perception that the authorities were “protecting” those who might be involved.

Former Port Klang Authority (PKA) general manager Datin Paduka O.C. Phang and two senior officers in companies involved with the PKFZ issue were charged in the Sessions Court on Thursday with offences amounting to RM$380mil.

Muhyiddin was asked to comment on the arrests and charges brought against the three individuals.
