To Understand PKFZ lets go back to 2003

Lets go back to the time when Tan Sri Chan was the Transport Minister . In the next few articles , I shall be posting a few articles on him , as he is deemed a key player in PKFZ , his connections , his part in the PKFZ and his misdeeds that caused MCA having to bear the PKFZ issue and the possibility that if indeed the 10 million was given to MCA or to him and not to Tee Keat . That is why until today Tiong has insisted that he has given 10 million to someone in 2008 , that's the time when Chan was still the MCA Deputy President until the party elections in October . The possibility is and should not be discounted as nobody does things for FREE or put their head on the chopping block for nothing unless he is duly well compensated by the party Kuala Dimensi for his part in the issuing of the three letters of guarantee .

He has remained silent until today , not a word from him to dispel all the hulaboo , rumours , accusations , against the MCA party President Ong Tee Keat who has been attacked relentlessly by the Corporate Thieves . He has NOT come out to defend the party and Tee Keat .

Today we shall look back into 2003 when he was elected MCA Deputy President and appointed the Transport Minister and his background .



When the new Deputy President of MCA, Dato’ Chan Kong Choy was showered with congratulations from friends and foes over his new ministerial appointment, he had apparently been drawing flaks from detractors aligned to Team A as well as his own camp.

Despite Chan’s numerous attempts to appease Team A, his elevation as well as his protégé’s had unavoidably irked such Team A aspirants as Dr. Chua Soi Lek (Johore MCA chief) and Ong Ka Chuan
(Perak MCA chief). Both are now serving as the state executive councillors (equivalent to state ministers) in their respective states but are said to have been vying on the federal seats in the coming general election. On the party front, it is no secret that Dr. Chua has been lobbying hard on the new president for the Vice President post, but to no avail.

Ka Chuan, the elder brother of the new MCA President, is now the National Organising Secretary -- one of the most controversial figures involved in the phantom membership issue. He has never had good rapport with Chan and this is expected to take a further dip when the phantom membership issue were to be resolved jointly as was demanded by Team B earlier.

Chan, if given a choice, is unlikely to touch upon the thorny issue proactively. However, he knows very well that he can hardly afford to let the Team B followers down again. To date, he is still widely perceived that he had actually consented the horse-trading with Team A without the knowledge of his team-mates, if not at their expense. To his grassroots, he still owes them an explanation.

Of course, not that all allegations need to be answered by the leaders. Chan is of no exception, more so when certain allegations are not altogether unfounded. It is a known fact that Team A had been distributing ‘flying letters’ through the party network with allegations that Chan himself is a prominent triad at the height of the triad infiltration issue. The new Deputy President cum Transport Minister is said to have been an active “ Wah Kee” triad leader over the years. Sources close to him in Pahang claim that he owes his success in networking within the party through the triad connection.

Party veterans, particularly those from his hometown Bentong, could still remember that the mustached Chan was nearly made the candidate for the Bentong parliamentary by-election following the sudden demise of the late Tan Sri Chan Siang Sun (the then MP for Bentong) in 1989. Nevertheless, his candidature was later reviewed purportedly due to his heavy involvement in the “Wah Kee” triad gang which was well known by the Opposition. This had subsequently paved way for Lim Ah Lek to contest. Given the benefits of hindsight, had Chan successfully contested and won the Bentong seat then, he would possibly be made the minister to fill the Pahang quota left vacant by Chan Siang Sun in 1989. If so, history would have changed its course 14 years ago.

His connections to the underworld was evident as one of his brothers was arrested in Bentong sometime ago for Drug Trafficking . And it was splash across all the major papers in town .
